Synopsis¶
In this episode of the Forty and Twenty podcast, hosts Andrew and Everett discuss their upcoming trips to Europe, with Andrew heading to London, Luxembourg, and the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, while Everett prepares for his own European adventure. The conversation then shifts to their main topic: watches.
The hosts cover an impressive range of new releases and collaborations, including the Boulder Venture wind-up collaboration, Singer's Heritage V72 watches featuring restored Valjoux 72 movements, Tag Heuer's Dutch Orange Formula One Solar Graph commemorating Zandvoort's final F1 race, and Nomos's new Tangente with ring date complication. They also discuss stone dial watches from Brew and Maine, Fears' retirement Brunswick 40.5 jump hour release, and Casio's continuing evolution of their Edifice automatic line. Throughout the episode, they debate pricing, value propositions, and design choices while expressing both excitement and skepticism about various releases. The episode concludes with "other things," including recommendations for True Classic t-shirts and a cautiously pessimistic review of the new Ted Lasso season's premiere episode.

| Andrew | Hello, fellow watch lovers, nerds, enthusiasts, or however you identify. You're listening to Fortyand20, the WatchClicker podcast with your hosts Andrew and my good friend Everett. Here we talk about watches, food, drinks, life, and other things we like. Everett, how are you? |
| Everett | I'm good. I'm all full of enchilada. |
| Andrew | Yes. Which is never |
| Everett | a bad place to be. And Lime Lager? |
| Andrew | And Lime Lager. Uh also |
| Everett | never a bad place to be. No, I'm doing really well, Andrew. The um the excitement for my Europe trip is building. Uh I'm still a few weeks off, but um y you're less than that from your Europe trip. |
| Andrew | I'm I'm days out. Uh yeah, I'm the I'm I'm I kind of crescendoed my excitement for it because I had a little bit of a of a debacle this morning with respect to flight confirmation numbers and like I knew I had a flight, but I uh the airlines couldn't tell me on what airplane I was supposed to be getting on. Uh so I got that I got that sorted. But now I'm in kind of like a uh nerves oh yeah I'm packing and like there's things that I would be using not necessarily on a day to day basis but they're like now in a suitcase and I'm like every day rechecking my bag. Oh |
| Everett | yeah. uh so I'm in that like what |
| Andrew | am I forgetting kind of thing. But I also know I'm going I'm I'm going to a developed country. If I forget it, I'll just buy it while I'm |
| Everett | there. Right. Right the there there will be something akin to a CVS. |
| Andrew | Yeah. Well no, I I I'm not gonna be short on Zen. Fret not. Uh that's that's good. But everything else uh you know |
| Everett | oh I was thinking toothbrush. But I |
| Andrew | will remember a toothbrush. And also CDS no |
| Everett | longer sells tobacco. I |
| Andrew | guess I'm not going to CVS anymore. Walgreens does, don't they? Oh no, because they're they're they're pharmacies. And they were like, actually, if we're gonna be |
| Everett | if we're gonna be saying that we're uh |
| Andrew | you know health conscious, we should maybe, you know, stop having the best tobacco prices in town. |
| Everett | Right. Right. That is what happened. Um |
| Andrew | I recall that. Yeah. Because it was. Walgreens and CVS were they always had the best prices. |
| Everett | Right. It's the buying of bulk stuff, mine. |
| Andrew | Yeah. Uh but yeah, so I'm I'm my my excitement is is crescendoing. It's kind of it's transitioned a little bit into nerves because I've never traveled uh internationally by myself before. So |
| Everett | yeah. Uh but barring that, I'm I'm pretty |
| Andrew | excited. I you're not really |
| Everett | by yourself, but the traveling portion will be |
| Andrew | Yeah, like I have to leave these United States and enter a a foreign country solo. |
| Everett | And if you get if you get absconded at customs, nobody will be there with you to know it. |
| Andrew | Yeah. You'll just we' justll be like, where did Andrew |
| Everett | go? Yeah, I'd like I I have to I'm gonna |
| Andrew | I'm gonna double dip my my foil packets and wax just to make sure that nothing you know, there's no no mishaps. Um |
| Everett | put put an air tick air air tag in your butt so we we have a lock on your location. |
| Andrew | That's already there. That's been there for m months. The charging is a little bit uncomfortable. Yeah, no, I'm I'm chipped up. |
| Everett | Okay, good. good, good, good. Uh but yeah, no, I'm |
| Andrew | I too am excited. Um I'm gonna spend a few days in London. I'm gonna hit up Christopher Ward, hit up Fears, um, and then on to Luxembourg, and then to Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix, and then back to Luxembourg for a little bit and then back to America and going to the happiest place on earth for a couple days after that. |
| Everett | Sweet. Yeah. It's gonna be a |
| Andrew | it's gonna I I'm I'm excited. It's a lot of |
| Everett | 'cause the kids are excited, but to like come back from |
| Andrew | Europe to then go to like |
| Everett | jet lagged. Jet lagged |
| Andrew | on the on the heels of a two-week vacation. In |
| Everett | line for Pirates of the Caribbean. Into |
| Andrew | one of like the most stressful Do |
| Everett | they still have Indiana Jones or did they re No, |
| Andrew | Indiana Jones is still there. But the last couple times we've they're they're it's hard to say if they're uh slowly renovating it or if they're just like patching the holes. It's probably due for like about a year-long closure. Um And there's a different section where none of the lights work, or like you break down somewhere on the track. And uh |
| Everett | that was always my favorite. I really liked it. Best. |
| Andrew | It is the best. Um, but it's it's just it's maybe in need of a little TLC. |
| Everett | Last time I was there, the Star Wars section was still under construction. |
| Andrew | That's the one of the coolest places ever been in the world. |
| Everett | Almost done. And Splash Mountain was being renovated. So uh that Splas |
| Andrew | Mountain is fully renovated. Right. Princess and the Frog |
| Everett | is that? Uh yeah, it's Tiana's Bayou |
| Andrew | Adventure. Yeah. The Star Wars land is the only time I've had a similar like immediate reaction to an environment is going into the Harry Potter world at Universal Studios where you're just immediately transported and |
| Everett | diagonal. Like, oh my gosh, |
| Andrew | this is fantastic. |
| Everett | Yeah. The soundscape is great. Like |
| Andrew | you you're in Star Wars and there's stormtroopers wandering about. |
| Everett | That's cool. Um they |
| Andrew | have they have Star Wars soundscape that's just like like you really f it's perhaps more immersive than anywhere else in Disneyland. And I think it's on purpose. But it's it's really, really immersive. The same way the the Harry Potter land is at Universal. That's |
| Everett | cool. You know, the Simpsons world is just like, oh, there's |
| Andrew | Simpsons buildings and um but the Harry Potter section. And I'm not even a Harry Potter fan. |
| Everett | Yeah. But I walked in and I was like, this is |
| Andrew | cool. This is cool. Well, I will be in |
| Everett | Edinburgh in a couple weeks, which is actually where uh Thou Who Shall Not Be Named wrote the first Harry Potter book. So there's a few places in Edinburgh that you can go that they say this is actually the inspiration. Inspiration. That'd be cool. Yeah. Um, but yeah, in any event, |
| Everett | we're not here to talk about Europe or Disneyland or Star Wars. Rather, we're here to talk about watches. |
| Andrew | We could though. Yeah. Andrew, do you have |
| Everett | any qualms about about leading us off to I |
| Andrew | I you know, I think I'm ready. I it's first time in a long time that I am coming prepared to |
| Everett | begin. Uh |
| Andrew | we have a cool wind up and boulder collaboration for their third iteration of the windup Boulder Venture lineup. So this is a Boulder Venture, right? And this is a I I think Boulder is a brand that gets slept on. |
| Everett | Yeah, I would say so. Because |
| Andrew | they they had that made this huge splash when they kind of came onto the scene and went in this burgeoning independent small watch brand world. And then they never really innovated or grew. They just like have their base models and they |
| Everett | feel a little unfair, but yeah I hear I hear what you're saying. |
| Andrew | They remain consistent and and they've perhaps been outshined by competitors though they they like're just a stalwart, like they are continuing to do the like good, interesting quality stuff. Uh and sometimes I forget about Boulder uh because they were a watch brand that I've been aware of for a very long time, but haven't dropped anything like new or big. Yeah, |
| Everett | it's kinda like been there, done that, seen it. Uh |
| Everett | yeah, I was gonna get it, I would have gotten it. |
| Andrew | Yeah, but uh every time I see them like oh you know I can kind of get with this. So this is a 38mm, 42 lug-to-lug, 12 thick, 20 millimeter lugs, 200 meters of water resistance, uh, NH35 movement, um 200 meters, now we already said 200 meters of water resistance. This is their titanium case, and this is a sandy yellow mag tending towards like gold, like tropical beach gold, which is their idea to be a sand uh sand colored dial. Yeah, |
| Everett | it's but it's got really got a lot of w worn |
| Everett | and wound or wind up vibe to it as well with that red and the blue. |
| Andrew | Yes. Uh and it's it's good. They're only making a hundred of these. They're four hundred twenty nine bucks. Uh I think this is a good wind up or a good worn and wound uh collaboration. Yeah, these |
| Everett | are boutique exclusives for the for the watch shop. |
| Andrew | Yep. Yeah. Yeah. These are these are cool. |
| Everett | Are they still they are |
| Andrew | gonna be they're gonna ship in late November. I don't know I don't know how it's got to be some kind of pre-order or lottery to get through to it. Um they're available to pre-order, and I don't know if just the first hundred people that pre-order get it and |
| Everett | yeah it looks like you can just get it right now. It looks like you can |
| Everett | just order it. Do they insist that you sign a loyalty |
| Andrew | pledge? They don't. It doesn't appear so okay |
| Everett | so this is a this is an online pre-order |
| Andrew | that might be worth getting in on because uh I'm still like deeply troubled by the loyalty pledge requirement. That was bizarre. |
| Everett | Oh yeah it was funny. Uh yeah |
| Everett | I don't I mean it didn't upset me, uh, but it is one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen. |
| Andrew | It upset me because I was trying to sign up for a pre-order. And I don't know if you call you know if this qualifies as social media. I think this is maybe a step higher than social media. Um but I I I do think it fit within the parameters of their have you ever spoken ill of us uh loyalty pledge? |
| Everett | Yeah. I I it w it i yeah. I mean A, I think this is certainly s probably uh in their world this would qualify, |
| Andrew | right? Yeah, and I think anything that I've ever said about Omega would certainly qualify. |
| Everett | Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Uh yeah. We literally have a show that says we hate Omega now. Um |
| Andrew | But we could be anybody. We could be the royal we of all of us. |
| Everett | I've got a watch and it's it I'm just |
| Everett | gonna start with an expensive one, right? So this is |
| Everett | a watch from Singer |
| Everett | and it's very similar to the last watch from Singer that we talked about on this show, which is the Heritage Collection. They've introduced two |
| Everett | new Heritage V72 |
| Everett | watches and these watches have a few tricks up their sleeve. Um w first trick, we now have a precious metal gold and a stainless steel version, both being dropped |
| Everett | um and these are singer if |
| Everett | you know anything about the company it's a restoration resto mod company that takes old things and makes them effectively less old, new things. And this is no different. |
| Everett | Singer for these watches is using Valju |
| Everett | 72 movements, and they call this the V72, Heritage V72, for that reason. Uh |
| Everett | oh perhaps one |
| Everett | of the most famous chronograph movements of all time, a manual winding chronograph. Um they've |
| Everett | outfitted these in really a |
| Everett | very lovely modern chronograph case with a dial that we'll get to in a second. We've already talked about it before, but we'll talk about it again today. Um and |
| Everett | they don't just take these old |
| Everett | V72 movements and take them apart and make sure they work. They do do that, by the way. They take them uh they take them fully apart, |
| Everett | but they also refinish them, which is just one of the |
| Everett | most brilliant things on the face of the earth. And they do a really, really excellent job. So they give you |
| Andrew | this doesn't look like new old stock. This looks like brand new off the production line. |
| Everett | That's right. So they give each of the components a I would call this a stone wash finish. I think that they call this a um gosh, they they use a specific |
| Andrew | word for it. No, they use a word that I |
| Everett | thought was interesting. Frosted and |
| Andrew | pretty much. Frosted. Yes. Frosted. |
| Everett | Um, which to me looks like a |
| Everett | stonewashed finish, but I could be I could except |
| Andrew | frosted, but it's stonewashed. But then they |
| Everett | hand pan hand polish all of the bevels on the edges and uh uh essentially they make this into just an absolutely gorgeous movement. It is a still a classic Valju seventy two movement, which is to say uh we've got a thirty minute at three, a twelve at six, and running seconds at nine. Um hand polished, uh manually wound, eighteen thousand vibrations, which is two and a half hertz, which in 2026 dollars is a very low hertz chronograph movement. Uh, that is both good and bad. It means it's going to be incredibly reliable and will |
| Everett | run well. It also means |
| Everett | that it is a a little bit archaic in terms of beat rate, etc. Maybe not the most accurate |
| Everett | thing. Um we do have a |
| Everett | six and a half millimeter thickness on this, which is pretty nice, especially considering how old it is. On |
| Andrew | the movement, not the watch. That's right. Yeah. |
| Everett | Which allows them to make this |
| Everett | into a pretty tidy into a pretty tidy package. So dimensions on this are |
| Andrew | supposed to be like 13 and a half. 388 |
| Everett | across and thirteen point two five in height, which |
| Everett | not nothing. Excuse me. I'm gonna |
| Andrew | it's certainly not nothing. And for a Valju 72, at a six and a half millimeter movement, that's a like I think tidy is a is a good way to put that. That is a dimension that we should expect for this type of movement, for this, for these complications with it, this movement, and this age of movement, this is right there. Like for a fully modern chronograph, it's gonna be it's not even that thick relative to fully modern, like brand new today |
| Everett | off the manufacturing line mechanical |
| Andrew | chronographs. This is fifty years old and totally refinished and updated. Not updated. Totally refinished. |
| Everett | Yeah, re retroflotted, I would say. Yeah. |
| Everett | Um these were restored. We've got a gold case with a m |
| Everett | like a lovely matte black dial and |
| Everett | the steel case with a matte stone gray |
| Everett | dial, both of these in the same case |
| Everett | dimensions. The handset on this thing is truly |
| Everett | a work of art. Both |
| Everett | of these carry orange loom |
| Everett | on the hours and minutes hand. Uh the chronograph seconds is that same color, but I don't believe it's loomed. Uh it |
| Andrew | doesn't look loomed, yeah. and they come |
| Everett | with this really, really charting and I |
| Everett | think this is sort of the this is the the main feature that I think most people will focus on this watch. The pinions have a fairly prominent I'd say |
| Everett | probably three millimeter |
| Everett | cap, gold or brass symbol. |
| Andrew | Yeah. Uh the yeah, like a |
| Everett | hi-hat shaped cap that sits on the pinion. And it's just lovely. Really prominent singer logo at twelve that is pretty wide. I mean it's prominent |
| Andrew | but not uh not obtrusive. Not obtrusive, right? It's a signature sing the singer logo. It's not I mean I it's I I think it's even less prominent than like Tudor or Brightling that bear just a logo. I mean it's it's very well integrated into the design of the dial. |
| Everett | Big but perhaps subtle uh if |
| Everett | you if it can be such a thing. Uh |
| Everett | nice sub nice sub-registers |
| Everett | on these, you know, uh good decisions, really nice |
| Everett | minute track with gold markers |
| Everett | for each of these in the minute track that each have carry a plot of loom |
| Everett | in them, white loom. Um this is |
| Everett | just a terrific looking watch. |
| Everett | Um but but but yeah |
| Andrew | there's a big old butt that go along with this |
| Everett | there is a big butt. uh forty five Swiss |
| Everett | francs for the precious and |
| Everett | twenty-three Swiss francs. And |
| Everett | when I say forty-five and twenty-three I mean thousands. Thousands. Yeah, it's a good five thousand.s |
| Everett | Uh for the so t so forty-five |
| Everett | thousand for the gold, twenty-three thousand for the |
| Everett | steel. This is an expensive |
| Everett | watch. Uh is that |
| Everett | a good value. Is |
| Andrew | it a good value? I |
| Everett | don't know. I don't know. I mean the |
| Everett | the work they're putting in the into this, the novelty, I I mean they're selling million-dollar Porsches, right? Million dollar fifty year old Porsches. |
| Everett | So like we don't have to |
| Everett | discuss we don't have to discuss too much whether this is economically |
| Everett | right. There's a market and the people that are buying these have a little bit of extra cash to throw around. I would I would wager. |
| Andrew | Yeah. Right. Yeah, I would I would venture a guess that there's if |
| Everett | you're buying a million dollar fifty year old |
| Everett | air cooled Porsche, you probably can drop an extra twenty three grand on the watch. Yeah, |
| Andrew | because you're gonna pay for the speeding tickets and for the driving on the shoulder tickets so you don't uh idle in traffic and overheat. |
| Everett | Twenty pieces of the gold, fifty of the steel. If you want to get one, get them while I'm there. |
| Everett | I love these. I love these. I you know, of course, |
| Everett | I don't I'm not gonna get one, but uh I I do really, really enjoy it. I think these are terrific. |
| Andrew | I really like this new old stock and and retrofitted old stock of Valjou movements that we're seeing in the last couple years. Uh there's there's only so many things you can do with the Valju chronograph movement, but everyone's doing something uniquely their own. |
| Everett | Yeah. and they're all good. Yeah. Yeah. it it's |
| Everett | sort of like it it's also |
| Everett | it's a little bizarre to me for a company that really isn't a watch company to be making such a delightfully thoughtful watch. |
| Andrew | Yes. Uh but also when |
| Everett | you think about what Singer is, it's like okay. it's just |
| Andrew | tracks. It's a company that understands uh what people like and what people want and is willing to work in that in that space of pushing the envelope to do something neat against what we expect. Right. And it's interesting to see companies branch out I think car companies are a really unique example of it because of the technology and research and design and development that goes into automobile design. I think they they present an interesting um crossover into watches because of that technology. Like McLaren just started making uh golf irons. Right. And it's like, well, that kind of makes sense. You know, this is a company that is basically working in like aerospace technology. That's automobiles, but um they should be able to design a really good iron. |
| Everett | They probably know how to forge forge a piece of metal. |
| Andrew | and make it aerodynamic and perform really well. I actually |
| Everett | just watched a YouTube video where these guys made a uh they cast an eight iron and it took them a while to figure it all out, |
| Everett | but they essentially just cast an eight |
| Everett | iron out of a manganese bronze alloy and then they hit it and they were like, yeah, |
| Everett | we did it. Because |
| Andrew | it's not it's not hard. Yeah. And but you know that that's the delta and technology from you know the the the wooden shaft to what is now you know aerospace metallurgy and and science of like the actual physics of developing golf clubs. |
| Everett | I just looked, so so singer Porsches right now start at a million and you can spec them pretty easily up to three and a half. |
| Andrew | That's steal. That's a that's a good old steel right there. Yeah. Uh that makes a million sound easy. |
| Everett | Yeah, that's right. Just you just walk |
| Andrew | in the door. I just want the base model. Give |
| Everett | me the cheapest thing they got. What do you got for uh sixty grand? Yeah. |
| Andrew | Can I have a seat? Uh up next for me, Tag Hoyer is doing something interesting. Um interesting because they haven't done it yet before, and it's to commemorate a special occasion. So the Formula One Solar Graph Limited Edition uh is coming in Dutch Orange, and this is a Formula One solar graph to commemorate the final Formula One race at Zandvoort, uh, which is uh this upcoming weekend. What's this |
| Everett | what's Zandvoort? Zandvoort is |
| Andrew | a famous racetrack in just outside of Amsterdam in the Netherlands that has hosted F1 races for quite a long time. Uh, and for whatever reason, they did not renew their contract with Formula One to continue gromperies there uh in the future. I imagine they will return at some point, but uh as it is understood in the community right now, Zanward is off the calendar for the foreseeable future. So Taghoir is doing a limited run of a hundred, maybe three hundred. Hang on. Hang on. It |
| Everett | doesn't seem like very many. A thousand. I was |
| Everett | gonna say a thousand |
| Andrew | are gonna be made. Uh and these are uh just an orange solar uh uh yeah, just an orange solar graph, which they have not done since the solar graphs come have come out. This is the first orange iteration. U comhes in with a gray, kinda yeah, very, very light smoky gray, uh kind of cloud gray uh dial. Comes on either a bracelet or a strap. The strap is orange rubber. They are 22. What you call |
| Everett | this a cumulus gray. Okay. Just |
| Everett | because I know how much you love it when I make up color names. |
| Andrew | I'm gonna get you a pantone. Uh like a dictionary just so that you can thumb through it while selecting your color descriptions. I'm I I think there's a maybe a fair argument to be that I'm colorblind um if you are seeing life so vividly I am and I am not |
| Everett | I am implicitly and passively applying for a job with Seiko as we speak. |
| Andrew | You're not the storyteller. That's what they want. They don't want you to name the color. They wante tod they wanted tell the story of the color. Oh come up |
| Everett | with something good. Anyhow, uh everyone as |
| Andrew | good as they get 2150 on a strap, 2250 on a bracelet, uh thousand of them for e-commerce only. When I saw this, I was kind of excited. I was like, oh, I wonder if these are gonna be like Dutch market only, like available. |
| Everett | Nope, you get it online. Yeah, |
| Andrew | like the rest of us. Uh because I was gonna uh I would have gotten one of these if they were uh like available exclusively in the Netherlands over the next couple weeks. Like while I was there, I would have I would have bought one. But no I don't care. I just it it's cool that they are um I mean I like the solar graph. I I think introducing solar technology into this watch is really cool. I think this is probably like this is a really neat example of kind of the worst parts of Tag Hoyer from the 90s being uh reinvigorated and modernized into a a really attractive cool watch in the modern era. I still |
| Everett | pause I still pause at the price on these things. I is like |
| Andrew | 2200 bucks. I I |
| Everett | really do think that that's a mistake. |
| Everett | I think that these at 1300 to 1500 would just slay um They |
| Andrew | couldn't keep them on the shelves, yeah. and and and frankly they they would be reasonably priced at thirteen, fifteen hundred. |
| Everett | And they would certainly be making |
| Everett | money. There is zero doubt about it that they would be making money. If they if they had |
| Everett | really turned this into a loss leader, um it |
| Andrew | wouldn't even have to be much of a loss. That |
| Everett | that's right. I think it's a mistake to have these things positioned where they are. Uh w when you know w when you know that these things probably cost you know, three hundred maybe |
| Everett | to produce, even if you float |
| Everett | out all the additional costs and you know e even if you really get creative with the math, three hundred bucks is cost on these things. So when you look at that when you look at that, you know, whatever, eight X margin, you think, gosh, they |
| Everett | could really do something with these if |
| Everett | they made 'em actually accessible. Oh, |
| Andrew | and they could bring so many people to the Tag Hoyer tent. |
| Everett | Yeah. Yeah. Uh but it's |
| Andrew | cool. It's a good orange too. I mean it's that very classic rally orange. Um yeah, I think it's neat to commemorate the final Dutch Grand Prix. |
| Everett | Uh novels. Have you heard of that |
| Everett | company? I'm unfamiliar. I feel like we've been really pretty excited about |
| Everett | Gnomos over the last couple of years. |
| Andrew | They've been hitting hard in the last two years. They've upped the bat weight uh the last two years. Aaron Powell |
| Everett | So when they came out with the club sport and animatic world timers uh |
| Everett | a few years ago, they |
| Everett | you know introduced a whole bunch of new features i in particular in particular the ring |
| Everett | uh the ring date complication which |
| Everett | i just thought gosh that's so cool. They've now brought this to a Tangent, which is uh a watch that goes back to nineteen ninety two, one of if not if not the premium release, I think in Nomos lineup. Um and and I just think it's uh I just think it's a great flagship if maybe not the watch for me, in particular those lugs, not Nolomos, not Gnomos' creation, by the way, but something that has a lot of history. Those lugs don't do it for me. |
| Andrew | They would scratch a lot of itches though. Those spider claws. |
| Everett | They've now introduced the ring date. They've now introduced the ring |
| Everett | date to the tangente. And |
| Everett | uh it's got this patented bidirectional quicksate mechanism. I'm struggling with words a little bit in here. |
| Andrew | What's happening? I don't know. Um which |
| Everett | has which is integrated into the periphery of the movement. it's kind of a crazy it's kind of a crazy complication. Um but they've now fit this complication |
| Everett | into this 38 and a half millimeter case uh |
| Everett | and it just looks great it takes the t it makes the tangente so much less boring. Yes. |
| Andrew | it adds I think it it for me it corrects one of the uh complaints I have have had about gnomos in that they're there's just nothing on the dial. I'm I'm one who I want I want boring. But I but I don't want Nixon. But I I I guess I I I think I need I feel like I need a minute track. |
| Everett | Well, and they have a minute track, but now we've also got this ring |
| Everett | date and it it really |
| Everett | adds, I think, a lot to the visual appeal of this watch, at least for me. |
| Andrew | It creates texture and contrast in where a lot of Bauhaus is is about super high blast contrast. This is kind of just a stable, steady contrast across the entirety of the dial. |
| Everett | They've released this in both a classic |
| Everett | silver dial, which is the Nomo style that you're probably most familiar with, and a great forest |
| Everett | green. It is 38.5 |
| Everett | as discussed, 7'4 thick because it's |
| Everett | freaking gnomos. DUW6101 in-house |
| Everett | caliber, which is of course an ultra ultra thin automatic caliber. Um, 21,600 move 21,600 vibrations per hour movement, 42 hour power reserve. Uh, beautiful |
| Everett | movement that you can see because there's |
| Everett | a see-through case back. They come on shell quarterman straps. |
| Everett | Uh and they're they're thirty seven hundred or thirty six |
| Andrew | euros on the silver dial. |
| Everett | Yeah. Or 3700, 3760 for the gray or the green, excuse me. |
| Andrew | I wouldn't call that silver either. That's a that's decidedly white. |
| Everett | It is silver. Uh so a lot of the product photography, I I think it is because of the flake |
| Everett | that they use in the coating for these dials, |
| Everett | but they are silver when you see them in person, but every product photo you ever see of these they look white, they look stark white. I think that is because they use a very, very, very fine flake in the silver. In person, these are silver, um, but they always tend to photograph uh whiter than they actually are. |
| Andrew | You are not gonna tell me, and I'm not gonna believe it for a second, that the image that I am seeing is not reality. |
| Everett | Everything you see on the internet is |
| Andrew | real. That's right, Andrew. you're right. That's white. I take it |
| Everett | back. Okay. So there's also a white |
| Andrew | option available, but it doesn't have a price listed here. |
| Everett | and and look, these aren't cheap watches, right? These aren't cheap watches. But I I said this a couple weeks ago. There's just no |
| Everett | one. There's no one else making watches with this level |
| Everett | of world logical chops. As well as gnomos at that price price range. I mean, we're you're in what what are we in? We're in like |
| Everett | expensive Longines, we're in Tudor, we're in uh uh I I mean |
| Andrew | But even those watches aren't the same thing. |
| Andrew | Not even not even close. |
| Everett | Not even close. Christopher Ward probably |
| Everett | does some stuff that's almost as interesting or maybe more interesting. I think the |
| Andrew | Galcoto kind of fits into the category, but that's a good thing. But they're more |
| Andrew | money. It's more expensive |
| Everett | significantly in some cases, right? This is a $3,700 watch that is as choppy as chops get. Gemma |
| Andrew | might be there, there might be an argument that Yemma maybe is existing in a similar |
| Everett | they're approaching, I think, the the a similar level of entry. |
| Andrew | They're approaching. They're not all that close |
| Everett | yet. But YEMA's not doing the they're totally different caliber watch, right? Yeah, |
| Andrew | they're not doing than the most things. Yeah. and |
| Everett | just pr and and almost certainly not doing them as refined |
| Everett | as well as uh Certainly |
| Andrew | not. Yeah. Yeah. So it i i i |
| Everett | it and and we've been I'm you know hu we're huge fans of Yama, right? |
| Andrew | Yeah no no doubt about it. We're huge. |
| Everett | Not a criticism at all, but no most at thirty six hundred bucks for this watch or you know, thirty six hundred euro, four thousand bucks. There's no you just can't get a watch that's as like I said, orologically choppy as this from any |
| Everett | other brand. There's no other |
| Everett | brand that you can pick up this watch new that's gonna be as cool. |
| Andrew | Yeah, I I think you're right about that. I mean |
| Everett | go get a singer for ten times the price of this. |
| Andrew | And while you're at it, you can pick up a Porsche. |
| Everett | And the singer's cool. I love that watch. But this I I mean this |
| Everett | is just I think that their their |
| Andrew | cool uh comparison point is is pretty similar. Right. I think they're about equally cool. |
| Everett | Gosh, I would think so. Yeah. Yeah. Uh I mean less bragging rights with Enomos, right? |
| Andrew | I think the less bragging rights with the thing. You walk |
| Everett | into a room with a singer, and you're like, yeah, this is someone's gonna be like, oh, is that the singer? And you're gonna be like, yeah, it's the singer. And everyone knows because |
| Andrew | $30,000 watch. That's right. that's where the bragging rights come in. It's like it's the same reason people will recognize your sub or your speedmaster, but you know, they'll look right past take your pick of not subs or speedmasters and similar price points. |
| Everett | yeah. Like nobody's |
| Andrew | gonna walk up to you and be like, is that legislée? Is that is that a is that a longa? I |
| Everett | don't know. I mean it depends on what circle you're riding in, right? |
| Andrew | In your normal day to day like longa, |
| Everett | That's not true. I think there's longa is pretty freaking dope. |
| Andrew | Yeah. But y the the fella at the oil change shop is not gonna recognize your longa. He is going to see your Speedmaster and be like, oh my gosh, is that a real Speedmaster? |
| Everett | right. Uh and there's nothing wrong with that, because the Speedmaster |
| Andrew | is probably, if not one of no, it is one of the three most popular watches of all time, and there's a good reason for it. But if you put w those two watches in front of me, like I I'm not picking a Speedmaster. Yeah, I |
| Everett | was thinking more like I was thinking more like a red bar group versus oil change. |
| Andrew | But we don't live in red bar groups. no. |
| Everett | you're not wrong. That's not that's not real life. It's |
| Andrew | Andrew What's Next. It's a magical escape that we that we get to not get made fun of for a couple hours of our life. Uh I have a goofy one. Uh, this is one I did not expect to come. Bangalore Watch Company is dropping or has dropped the 47, which is a pocket watch. And believe it or not, it's a 47mm pocket watch powered by a Rhonda Quartz. Uh it everything about it just screams Bangalore watch company to me. But it costs a thousand bucks and I'm having trouble making that work in my head. Uh it's really attractive. It's really lovely. I just I uh I don't understand why there's a pocket watch push the last year and a half where we see brands making pocket watches. Like are are we going back to three piece suits with a with a pocket watch |
| Everett | look this thing's look this thing's gorgeous this thing's gorgeous it |
| Andrew | absolutely is it's gorgeous for a thousand bucks I want uh I want a mechanical movement though |
| Everett | I have no clue I I have no clue what what I I mean I |
| Everett | don't w who's buying this? Who wants this? |
| Everett | I I don't know. This is bizarre. A Rhonda Quartz movement? Like I uh uh I don't get it. I don't understand |
| Everett | this watch at all. I I I saw |
| Everett | the original press photos and I was like, Oh that's hot and then |
| Everett | oh and look if you're gonna g if |
| Everett | you're gonna use a quartz movement. Rhonda |
| Everett | is the is the pinnacle of quartz |
| Everett | movements, I think. They're serviceable. They're fantastic. |
| Andrew | I think the only exception would be like a VK |
| Andrew | mecha quartz. Yeah, but Rhonda's better. |
| Everett | Even then, it's not serviceable. Well, maybe it's serviceable, I don't know, but uh it's |
| Andrew | not worth servicing. This is |
| Everett | uh I it's |
| Andrew | confusing to this to be a really confusing. |
| Everett | And also like it has a it has a three o'clock |
| Andrew | crown. I I feel like if you're making a pocket watch, put it put a twelve o'clock crown on it. Like |
| Everett | Lennon Dial, great fonts all around. |
| Andrew | Everything is great. It's Bangalore Watch Company, right? They make really great stuff. This confuses me. |
| Everett | Lang your leather strap, Rose Gold Case. |
| Andrew | Saw it, liked it, read about it, d got confused. Yeah. |
| Everett | Well twelve fifty is the retail price on these. Thousand is uh like the preliminary. I just don't Are |
| Andrew | hypnotists like coming back? Yeah, |
| Everett | maybe I I'm not I'm not understanding this release. I think this is really tough. I I know the w whatever the pop thing, whatever they call that, the Royal Pop. But this was |
| Andrew | in production prior to that release. |
| Everett | I d I don't get it. Yeah. |
| Everett | Is anybody actually wearing pocket watches? |
| Andrew | Maybe in India? I don't think so. |
| Everett | No, I don't think so. I I mean I I think that like unless w w what is the uh what is the like there's like a vintage motorcycle group of that they they ride vintage motorcycles and they wear like tweed suits and you know what I'm talking about? They do this in cities all over the place. Yeah, |
| Andrew | but there's gentlemen's like those |
| Everett | those thirty people say |
| Andrew | there's not enough of them. Those thirty people |
| Everett | might buy something like this, but more likely they're gonna go buy |
| Andrew | they're gonna go to the pawn shop and pick up one any one of the ten thousand Hamilton pocket watches that are sitting in pawn shops these days. |
| Everett | Buying an L Gen. They're buying an L gen. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. Nobody actually cares. Uh this is |
| Andrew | because they're wearing an Apple Watch. This is this is really |
| Everett | weird. Really? I love Bangalore. I love Bangalore as a company. This, I find this to be a really puzzling release. Yeah, |
| Andrew | I don't, I didn't get it. And that's why we're talking about it because it's confusing. |
| Everett | I love that Lennon Dow though. It's |
| Andrew | really attractive. Yeah. I kind of I the one thing that I do like about the pocket watch is getting that 47 millimeter dial to really appreciate the the dial texture. |
| Everett | Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, it's it's great. It it's a it's a just a terrific big linen dial and it's and they did exactly the right things. And that font that font the I |
| Andrew | don't dig the six. Um but the rest of the font I really like. |
| Everett | Yeah. it it's good. Um Stone dials been having uh Stone dials have been having a moment. Uh I I think I think some people have even suggested that Stone Dial uh the Stone Dial movement is perhaps overwrought. Um and so it's with that that we are gonna talk about two two SnowDowl releases, uh both of which I think are okay. They're they get the pass from me. Uh the first comes from a company that you may or may not have heard of out of New York called Brew. Brew, have you heard of this? It's like a coffee themed watch company, Andrew. |
| Andrew | Uh when he released a stone dial watch, he became dead to me. |
| Everett | Uh Brew has released a retrograph that they're calling the Stone Blend Automatic. And there's some there's some uh meaningful verbiage there. There's some cute |
| Everett | verbiage. Oh, blend because |
| Andrew | of coffee. Correct. Yeah. Hi, Jonathan, you're still dead to me. |
| Everett | What this stone uh is meant to visually uh is meant to visually evoke is the texture of milk right after you pour it in black coffee. |
| Andrew | Startling becoming disgusting. |
| Andrew | And it does a I think it |
| Everett | actually does a really, really good job. So this is a rose gold retrograph with of course a brown stone dial with some cream texture in it. Um |
| Everett | and Milky quaffs |
| Andrew | through it. And it's and it's terrific. |
| Everett | Okay. Uh the stone is Petersite. Okay. You'll just have to take my word on that. Uh it |
| Everett | is a listen, this is the cool |
| Everett | thing about the retrograph. This is a |
| Everett | 41 and a half millimeter |
| Everett | load to lug square swatch. I think it runs 38 across. 104 thick. |
| Everett | Automatic, 10-4 thick, |
| Everett | with a partial uh uh semicircular viewing window of the movement on the back. Uh Miyota ninety fifteen, of course, to get it that thin. It's a Miyota. Uh and seven seven |
| Everett | seven hundred and seventy five bucks on this. |
| Everett | Two hundred and fifty pieces limited. Pvd gold case. |
| Andrew | It's running it's running a little north of where Brew typically lands. |
| Everett | Yeah. Uh but it's a it's a limited edition. They're |
| Andrew | making two hundred and fifty of 'em. I think this is |
| Everett | where Brew is now on these. I think I think John's, you know, increased prices to sort of survive. But yeah, this this is cool. I think this is cool. |
| Andrew | It's a good execution of a stone dial. Part of it's in the storytelling. But the the rest of it the it all works together really well. Doing the PvD case, the PvD hands, going nothing on the dial, no markers, no anything. it he kinda nailed it. |
| Everett | He nailed it, yeah. The t the texture on this stone is perfect for what he does, right? It's perfect for what he's trying to do here. You want, you know, let's do a stone dial. It it's gonna be this. And it's great. It's just makes so much sense. |
| Andrew | Yeah. Um Um yeah, |
| Everett | I I don't have a ton more to say about that. But it does lead us into the next stone dial watch, which is Maine. Maine has released a Manhattan Stone Dial series, right? So stone dials again, they've been coming and going. There's lots of them out there. Uh the |
| Everett | Stockholm-based main is just released |
| Everett | three ultra-thin special stone dials in the Manhattan format. Um we've got a black onyx, a golden swan dial, and a snowflake obsidian dial. Um and I think these are all terrific. I I mean that's the thing, right? Like uh okay I'm tired of stone dials. Stone dials are a thing. blah blah. But is the watch does the watch work? That's the question I have |
| Andrew | The golden swan I I take issue with. That doesn't look very gold to me. |
| Everett | Oh. Well I take |
| Andrew | issue with the naming. Not the watch. I think the dial itself is is phenomenal. |
| Everett | It looks more to me like looks like a phoenix. |
| Andrew | Like monolo a volcano. Yeah. Not a not a golden swan. Maybe it's maybe it's the pigment in it that when you take pictures of it, it changes color to trick those of us who would view it only on the internet. |
| Everett | Now, I will just say The |
| Andrew | black onyx is like the the deepest pits of hell. The black |
| Everett | onyx of these is the absolute winner. It is a very stoic blackonic style. No hour markers. You've got a very stark main logo at 12, and then Manhattan 37 manual at six and then a single line Swiss made at the bottom. I think this is awesome. Yeah, |
| Andrew | that's the winner. That's it's it's so black at eight the markers and indices. It just sucked them in. It is a pure black hole. |
| Everett | the Manhattan Ultra Thin is a fantastic format watch. 37mm, 71 thick, 474 lug to lug. It is an integrated an integrated rectangular or I guess it's actually octagonal. |
| Andrew | Yeah. It's like an actual octagon. But |
| Everett | leaning rect rectangular. With |
| Andrew | no uh All |
| Everett | three of these really great executions, I think. Uh manual wine LJP D101, uh 50R PowerServe, 21600, and uh these come in at a pretty respectable price, I think. Hundred pieces hundred pieces of each. Uh like fifteen hundred dollars. One thousand three hundred and fifty nine euros. So um that's excluding taxes or bad. So I I don't know what these will land in the United States at, but I'm guessing fifteen, sixteen hundred dollars somewhere |
| Andrew | and th as though they are limited, they're gonna do an initial run of a hundred each and then do a pre-order period for each of them as well. |
| Everett | Oh okay. I |
| Andrew | love that model of hey buy the wall like we're gonna make enough that if you want one you can get one but you have to buy it now. |
| Everett | Yeah. like shit a good off |
| Andrew | the pot. Well |
| Everett | the ultra thin in particular is just yeah, what an elegant three seven point three millimeters? That's crazy. |
| Andrew | Yeah, it's nuts. That's crazy. |
| Everett | So sorry I kinda I did a twofer there, Andrew, but I guess that we're going to talk about these things. I was not |
| Andrew | going to talk about stone dials. Yeah, I thought |
| Everett | it wasn't on your list. So I figured we'll stuff those |
| Andrew | together. What do you got? Uh how about a Fears release? Oh |
| Everett | yeah. The Fears Brunswick |
| Andrew | forty point five A retirement release. Our ultimate. Yes, the ultimate is the retiring of this watch. And I gotta say, this is my favorite version of it. Uh a cyclops to view the actual hour uh with the rest of the hours uh the the markers obscured by the by the crystal, a full loom dial. This is just a fun. I mean, it's it's so it's a collaboration with Andrew Morgan. Uh 40.5 millimeter case, 12.8 thick, uh loomed ceramic dial, printed indices, 100 meters of water resistance, um SW200 with using the Christopher Ward jumping hour module, which is which is interesting. Uh I I I think it's cool. It like everything about this watch is futuristic, but it's still super legible. It's cool to do uh a a deliberate farewell retirement release. Um and they are going to have a limited order window also. So not like a pure limited release, but a limited order window. It's going to open uh it's open currently from the 10th to the seventeenth to to order these watches. Um now everything I've read about this is very specific to say that Fears is retiring the Brunswick 40.5 jump hour. So I don't I don't |
| Everett | think that that necessarily |
| Andrew | means that Beers is retiring the jump |
| Everett | hour or that they're retiring I certainly don't think it means they're retiring the |
| Andrew | Brunswick. So no have they've been pretty specific that they are retiring the jump hour, the forty point five jump hour. Yeah. So uh |
| Everett | who knows exactly what that means. |
| Andrew | Um what I thought that was the coolest |
| Everett | thing about this is the the Brunswick 40.5 jump |
| Andrew | hour has always been uh kind of like |
| Everett | a a really simple watch. You know, you get that ring and then you get the jump hour at 12 and kind of |
| Everett | not a whole lot else. Uh |
| Everett | this is the first jump hour that's got Arabic numerals all the way around, but it doesn't really, right? It it's got you can actually only see |
| Andrew | like the top half of each of them. Unless it's |
| Everett | unless it's in the cyclops. It looks a little bit more like a traditional watch but then also less and because it's full loomed both that disc on the top and the disc underneath are loomed and they shine through those numerals it it it looks great in the daylight but, it looks really cool when it's lit up. Um, this is a really, really neat watch. And then you've got a minute, you've got a visual minute track, which which sits on that same loom disc and it just gosh |
| Everett | this thing is great. Yeah it it they |
| Andrew | they hit it out of the park. This is my favorite of |
| Everett | these right I've always thought that the I've always thought that this that |
| Everett | this jump hour is uh a little bit too esoteric for me this doesn't |
| Andrew | this feels like 1985 that's |
| Everett | right it doesn't veer into it doesn't veer into normal but it's less like kitschy, |
| Everett | I think. Like it's more like, oh, this |
| Everett | is really cool execution. the |
| Andrew | full loom and the the obscuring of half of the m numerals gives it a kind of sci-fi futuristic, but from the 80s, futuristic vibe. That's |
| Everett | right. It's modern in a way that the that this watch previously hasn't been, and I I really like that. Now these are expensive, right? So retail is $4,600 on a strap, $4,900 on a bracelet, |
| Everett | get it on the bracelet. That's a lot of money 5,000 |
| Everett | is a lot of money. And you think, well, this is a SLEDA SW200, but this is not a SLEDA SW200. What you're paying for here, A, is gonna be fear's |
| Everett | exceptional finishing, |
| Everett | but also this JJ01 jump |
| Everett | hour move module is is really |
| Everett | pretty innovative. And so you're paying for both of those things. Um, do I think again, is this a good |
| Everett | value? I don't know. you you know, spend your spend your dollars how you choose. I think they're gonna sell plenty of |
| Everett | these. I love this execution of this watch. |
| Andrew | Yeah, this is this they nailed it. Every bit of this watch I like. I have no notes. |
| Everett | No notes. No notes. Did we talk about dimensions, etc.? |
| Andrew | Yep. Okay, great. |
| Everett | Moving it right along. Uh, Casio is back with their third |
| Everett | version already, their third version in as many |
| Andrew | days of their Edifice Automatic. |
| Everett | And they've called this one the EFK 200. We had the EFK 100, which came out with the Seiko movement, the EFK 110, which moved to the 8215, and now we've got the third version, the 200, also with an 8215 and a Miyoda movement. Um, and I think that they're getting pretty close to having a a |
| Andrew | good watch here. they are. I've |
| Everett | been critical, I've been critical of this watch. I I think, you know, we've in fact I think Andrew, we've even argued about this on this show. I really, I really think that Cassio should |
| Everett | have and certainly could have introduced an automatic module with this watch. And I think it would have |
| Everett | made it a really special |
| Everett | set of watches. I think their initial decision to go with Seiko was probably not a great decision. I think their decision to go with Miyoto was a little bit better, but you're Casio. |
| Andrew | Make one make a movement. Yeah. |
| Everett | Um, but with that said, I I I like this. So four steel versions and a black one that's made of carbon |
| Everett | and steel components that are kind |
| Everett | of like married and combined. Um |
| Andrew | mushed together. Mushed together. |
| Everett | That carbon version, 81 grams. |
| Everett | That's crazy. Which is crazy. Yeah. Uh |
| Everett | these are beautiful, Andrew. These are integrated sports watch, uh, integrated bracelet, sport watch styling, uh pretty subdued |
| Everett | dials. uh, |
| Andrew | but still very colorful. I think there's two big misses here that show the the uh adolescence of Casio in this realm in their in Casio's current iteration. So I feel like the case is really antiquated and the dials are just a bummer. |
| Everett | Yeah. Yeah. The dial colors are are they're |
| Andrew | poor choices. You think the |
| Everett | dial the dial choices aren't good? I |
| Andrew | don't like them. Uh I I pre I like all that that all these colors are included. We've got forged |
| Everett | carbon dials on these things. But they need to |
| Andrew | have base colors not just big Casio colors. And there and the case development needs some work. It's still kind of chunky. It's still kind of it it just it seems in development still. These seem like prototypes. |
| Everett | 100 meters of water resistance, 38 millimeter case diameter, 119 thick, which is not great, uh, but not bad either. Um I I think the uh composite's a little bigger. It's 38.8 |
| Everett | in diameter. Uh, we've |
| Everett | got three steel |
| Everett | colored watches and one steel |
| Everett | watch with gold PVD. That one has this really, I think lovely sort of smoky amber forged carbon dial. It's an Albre dial. Um, yeah, so uh the all black is 449, |
| Everett | the um steel are 299 |
| Everett | and the PVD is 369. All those are in euro. I I should have specified. So a little |
| Andrew | bucks. Yeah. A little bit more if you're |
| Everett | if you're talking in US dollars. I |
| Everett | actually think this is okay. uh I |
| Everett | I was probably a no |
| Everett | previously. Um, I am maybe a yes here at these |
| Everett | prices for what you're getting and what this is. I'm maybe |
| Everett | a yes. We're seeing these clear |
| Andrew | iterative improvement from the 100 to the 110 to the 200. Clear. Uh which is promising because it means that Casio is putting some ass into this uh sector, into this market segment, uh and are continuing to develop. |
| Everett | Yeah. Yeah. I I think |
| Everett | finishing and just aesthetically these this |
| Everett | is the best this is the best release. Uh I |
| Everett | I will just say I don't completely agree with your dial interpretation, but I can see what you're saying there. I I think dials, dial colors, right? If you if you like it, you like it. If you don't you don't, that's it. That's kind of it. Like I've been really critical of Christopher Christopher |
| Everett | Ward's dial choices in the past. Like |
| Everett | the 12, for instance, I'm like the a 12 |
| Everett | drop will come and I'll be like, okay, this is again nope, nope, they did it again. So |
| Andrew | hate them all. Which is |
| Everett | which is subjective, right? The twelve has been immensely popular and I think a lot of people like those those options. So and that might be that might be part of what's going on here. |
| Everett | But these are great, I think. These are |
| Everett | great. And I think they're well priced |
| Andrew | too. Yeah. and it's cool |
| Andrew | to see it coming out of Casio. Yeah. I still think, gosh, Casio, |
| Everett | get your shit together and make a fucking movement. Yes. |
| Andrew | Like borrow some architecture. Do whatever you gotta do. Steal it. Who cares? Yeah. |
| Everett | I mean you don't even have to steal it, right? Everybody and their mother |
| Everett | has a twenty eight twenty four. Just |
| Everett | Cassio, you have the the ass make a twenty eight twenty four. |
| Andrew | Yeah. Uh yeah. Anyway. |
| Everett | You know what, Cassio? Sell it to everybody on their mother. |
| Andrew | Make a movement to be a good movement manufacturer, yeah. |
| Everett | And sell it to everybody. You ha you can do this. |
| Everett | Like and people would buy it, right? Yeah. |
| Andrew | Yeah, they they would buy it. and they would buy it because it would be just more more is more. I think cre adding more competition to that movement market is only for the better. |
| Everett | Yeah. Yeah. Cassio's |
| Everett | got the ability to make very, very high precision, right? Like you're telling me Casio can't compete with Miyota. Uh or |
| Andrew | Eda even. Right. Well I think I think Casio could. I think they have the manufacturing asked to be able to do so. And not not in five years, but in ten years, if they put some true true research and development into that division, I think that it could be a real competitor. |
| Everett | Yeah. I I mean I I can't say no. What else you got? |
| Andrew | I don't really care about anything else. Alright, |
| Everett | good. Other things. What do you got? Uh |
| Andrew | so I picked up some new shirts. Uh I was I'm having to pack to be out of a suitcase for uh a prolonged period of time. And I was like, well, I'm gonna get some new uh just base color undershirts. So I got some shirts from True Classic. Oh |
| Everett | yeah. At the Costco. Have you seen these before? Yeah. I've got some True Classics. |
| Andrew | I I put it on and was just immediately so happy with the way the material feels. So I got both varieties: the active and the normal. Traditional. The traditional. They fit great. They're super comfortable. And what I liked the most about them um is that they feel like an actual medium whereas I feel like a lot of the shirts that I get when I put on a medium I'm like well this is a little not medium but the large is definitely large. These are shirts like built for not skinny jean wearing skinny people. And their medium is a true medium. |
| Everett | Yeah. Uh super comfortable. They like |
| Andrew | I just I was so pleased with them. Uh for they're like 50 bucks for a four-pack right now at Costco, uh, or the athletic one, they're 50 bucks for three pack. I picked up both of them and I'm just uh these are maybe my new go to T shirts. |
| Everett | Okay. Okay. I I picked |
| Everett | up y you know, they True Classic, one of these companies that has been sort of direct to consumer and and really social media |
| Everett | driven. Uh I picked up a |
| Everett | set of three a couple years back and all three |
| Everett | of them still fit great. They are snug. They haven't stretched out. They're snug |
| Everett | in the right places, is what I mean. Haven't stretched out. That's right. I mean, this was one of they were one of the first companies that sort of came out and they were like, look, we are wear a t-shirt |
| Everett | that's intended to look |
| Everett | good on the average adult male. Right. |
| Everett | So they the w the way they have structured the silhouette is to, |
| Everett | you know, like, okay, you got a muffin |
| Everett | top, we're okay with that. And we're not we're gonna de-emphasize that |
| Andrew | we count on it in fact right |
| Everett | right uh no i'm really I'm really sort |
| Everett | of very pleased. I'm really |
| Everett | sort of very pleased with those shirts and I I I'm glad that they're like more available. When I ordered them, it was kind of a pain in the ass to order them. And it wasn't a big problem. It was a little it was more annoying than I |
| Everett | wanted. And it was a little bit more money |
| Everett | than I wanted. And so it seems like their prices have come down to earth in a |
| Everett | way that I like. And um |
| Everett | yeah. |
| Everett | Yeah. Take a take a peek. If you're like me and |
| Andrew | gain them weight Um |
| Everett | I've got another thing and this is going to be sort |
| Everett | of uh maybe a speculative other thing? Uh maybe uh uh this is this is gonna be uh another thing that we'll insist upon, |
| Everett | demand a continuation. |
| Andrew | Okay, so I'm gonna link to Google. |
| Everett | I I watched the |
| Everett | first episode of the newly released season of Ted Lasso. |
| Andrew | Oh, me too. And |
| Everett | I was excited about it. I was excited about it. And |
| Everett | um I was wholly disappointed. Yes, I think |
| Andrew | another another season was a mistake. They ended it |
| Andrew | so beautifully. they l they they fell into the trap, they listened to the fans. We didn't actually want more. We just didn't want it to end. |
| Everett | I'm gonna stop you there because I don't think I'm ready to say quite |
| Andrew | as much as you have said. I |
| Everett | don't I don't know that it's a mistake. I I I which is which |
| Everett | again this |
| Everett | demand this insists upon |
| Everett | uh revisiting as the season |
| Everett | progresses. We've got one episode at this point, right? It it's not like a Netflix |
| Everett | drop where the whole thing dropped. Which |
| Andrew | bugs me. But |
| Everett | I did, you know, here are |
| Everett | my observations. And I and I said this to Kim while |
| Everett | we're watching it, right? Like if they insist upon reminding us about the like sort of bombastic character features of each of these characters if they can if they insist upon reminding us of those nuances the whole way through, it's gonna be lame. I'm hoping that this first |
| Everett | episode was sort of like welcome back. Just a reminder. These are |
| Everett | the characters. Mm-hmm. |
| Everett | Just a reminder. And now we're gonna get into the story. So um uh I won't provide any spoilers, but clearly Ted's in the |
| Everett | United States and clearly the soccer team that he used to coach is in |
| Andrew | not the United States. Different country. |
| Everett | Uh it it does seem like there's going to be |
| Everett | some international travel at some point, |
| Everett | uh probably sooner than later. W with that said, uh it |
| Andrew | I I hope. I you know, I |
| Everett | really I'm hoping uh Ted that |
| Everett | first season of Ted Lasso is just like |
| Andrew | the fur the gosh, one of the greatest things |
| Everett | ever made. The original part of the series |
| Andrew | is one of the best television productions of all time. |
| Everett | Yeah. that's right. it was surprising in a way that was like, okay, I am full, |
| Everett | I'm all in. So I hope that we get back to |
| Everett | something resembling that. That first episode wasn't it. |
| Everett | It just wasn't it. And I I think you you |
| Andrew | raise an interesting point that it could be just a a refresher episode, a a reminder. A recap episode perhaps, but still needing to progress the story. |
| Everett | Reminder, keely like sparkly things. |
| Everett | Like, okay, we get it. Yeah. Like, all right, I get it. I do remember that. It was just a couple years ago. I got it. So it if |
| Everett | they can if they can be committed to the story versus |
| Everett | constant reminders about these silly characters, |
| Everett | uh then I think there's |
| Everett | a chance. First reaction, first episode, oof, I'm nervous. I'll watch it. I'll watch every single episode. Guaranteed. Yep. Because it was so good. Um I I don't think I owe it to anybody, but I maybe just owe it to myself. Like I've got to It'll be like Game of |
| Andrew | Thrones, where I suffered through the last season. |
| Everett | Yeah. or like Sons of Anarchy, where |
| Andrew | I suffered through the last season. And I and I watched every single one just begrudgingly because I'd I'd gotten that far. I know |
| Everett | and I'm gonna do it. I know, sons of anarchy. |
| Everett | Jeez. I y you know, I I'm sort of a I'm a uh a Game of Thrones stan, e even a final season stan. I I I thought it wasn't anywhere near as bad as everybody else. But |
| Andrew | Sons of Anarchy. Oh god. The final season of Sons of Anarchy, like it almost ruined the show. God |
| Everett | uh anyway, I I do think I I |
| Everett | gotta imagine that there's gonna be |
| Everett | some good. And so I I'm |
| Andrew | I'm cautiously very |
| Everett | cautiously optimistic, but that first episode I |
| Andrew | was it it hopefully is not the uh not the anchor. Ooh |
| Andrew | It's good it's a good thing it wasn't the pilot episode for the series. |
| Everett | Ooh. Yeah, that's right. That's right, because that was atrocious. So um eh maybe not atrocious. It was not very good. |
| Andrew | Didn't live up to the rest of the uh the standard that has been set by Ted Lasso. |
| Everett | Andrew, uh that's all I have to say. Do you have |
| Everett | anything else you want to say about it? Never once. Hey, uh friends, family, |
