Synopsis¶
Andrew and Everett host this episode of the 40 and 20 WatchClicker Podcast, discussing recent watch releases and sharing personal updates. The conversation covers new timepieces from Christopher Ward (C63 True GMT with jumping hour), Tissot (redesigned Visodate), Jack Mason (Palmera skin diver with unique pre-order model), Seiko (King Seiko VANAC in titanium and Marine Master updates), Citizen (Proton celebrating 50 years of Eco-Drive), and Squale (Sub-37 Legend). They debate pricing, design choices, and whether various watches justify their cost points, with particular attention to the current state of the watch market.
The hosts express mixed opinions on several releases, with Andrew loving the Tissot Visodate and Citizen Proton while taking issue with Christopher Ward's C63 subdial design, and Everett defending the C63 while being skeptical of the King Seiko VANAC. They discuss how brands like Jack Mason and Citizen are positioning themselves in an increasingly competitive market. For "other things," Andrew enthusiastically recommends frozen hash brown patties cooked in an air fryer, while Everett shares his experience purchasing a Leatherman Wave Plus multi-tool—remarkably, the same tool he bought 18 years earlier.

| Andrew | Hello, fellow watch lovers, nerds, enthusiasts, or however you identify. You're listening to 40 and 20 the WatchClicker Podcast with your hosts, Andrew and my good friend Everett. Here we talk about watches, food, drinks, life, and other things we like. Everett, how are you? Crushing it. Just just crushing it. You gu |
| Everett | ys didn't see, but that |
| Andrew | that second was actually Everett shotgunning and then subsequently forehead squashing a can |
| Everett | . It's true. It's true. That's what we |
| Andrew | do on Tuesday nights. It's tru |
| Everett | e. Uh yeah, no, doing well. The uh the uh weather gods reminded us that it's not quite summer. In fact, it's just the fourth day of spring today. Oh, but |
| Andrew | it was so perfect. Yesterday I did a bucket load of |
| Everett | yard work. I mowed everyt |
| Andrew | hing. I put down a bunch of like overseed. Nice. I watered it all in and I was like, Please rain tomorrow. Please rain tomorrow. And it did. And it did, yeah |
| Everett | . Yeah, we got um I don't know, I think we got like an inch and a half of rain today. So |
| Andrew | yeah. Uh it it's between the hours of six and seven fifteen when I was parked outside standing on a track. |
| Everett | I think that puts us only about a hundred inches short on the year. |
| Andrew | Yeah, never mind the snowpack we didn't get. It is gonna be a bad summer |
| Everett | . It might be. Yeah. It might be. Uh but no, I I'm I'm doing well. The uh the Trowblazers last I checked were in the eighth spot for the playoffs. Um yeah. March Madness is |
| Andrew | in full swing. In full swing |
| Everett | . Yeah. I think I don't baseball is like it's happening. It's right. I mean, we're right there. Baseball's happening. And I don't mean my kids baseball. I mean mariner's baseball |
| Andrew | get ready for 74 games a week |
| Everett | oh god i love it so much i love it so much i |
| Unknown | i just can't i can't i've |
| Andrew | tried. I like watching baseball and I like following baseball. I just can't get invested into it. I |
| Everett | fired up my office TV today. Just to have some baseball on. It's the best. I tr |
| Andrew | ied to watch some basketball over the weekend. And it was all like it was it was just women's college basketball. Yeah. Which was really enteringtain to watch because I I that's just not what I was looking to watch. I was hoping to catch like a couple early games of Men's March Madness and follow my bracket |
| Everett | . I do have a relatively new legal assistant, Jessica, and uh had baseball on the TV and Jessica came in and said, I didn't realize that was a TV because it's one of those Samsung frame, so it Do you |
| Andrew | think I changed the painting three times a day? Like pay attention. |
| Everett | I don't ever change it. It's always the same. It's a this really cool painting of Lake Tahoe, but uh uh yeah. No, she was like, that's a that's a television. Yes it is |
| Andrew | . It is, because I own the place. My name's on the sign |
| Everett | . Get out. That's I say that actually pretty frequently in the office |
| Andrew | . You should. If your name is on the sign. |
| Everett | My name's on the door. You did see the front door when you came in? My name is on it |
| Andrew | . I would just routinely remind people of that. For no reason. Like just walk by the road. My name's on the door |
| Everett | . Andrew, watches, what do you got? Um |
| Andrew | , you know, I I I don't have any watch news this week, so I'm wondering if you have anything. |
| Everett | Watch news? |
| Andrew | Yeah, anything like not like new release. Yeah |
| Everett | . Um no. Okay. |
| Andrew | Then uh let's let's get it started with I think uh is not gonna be a surprise to anyone because this isn't particularly new. Wait |
| Everett | , wait, before you start, I I do want to remark on something before we get going. Uh as I sent you the links for today's episode, I was like, this feels very 2019 |
| Andrew | . Yes. This fe |
| Everett | els very 2019. Like Seiko, Citizen, Tisso, Citizen, Doxa |
| Andrew | , Christopher Ward |
| Everett | . But even the releas |
| Andrew | es, they they didn't feel um they all felt like safely familiar. Yeah. Right? Like I won we'll get to a citizen that feels like it should have been released in 2020. Uh, but is maybe more fitting now in 2026. What I want to talk about right now is the Christopher Ward C63 True GMT, which adds a local jumping hour to the lineup. Uh, for those of you who have somehow been living uh not just under a rock, but under a pile of rocks, perhaps in the um in the wreckage of Pompeii even, uh the C sixty three is is probably um my favorite platform that Christopher Ward has released ever. And uh they've just upgraded their GMT to a new jumping out jumping hour movement. So this is a forty point five millimeter case, fourteen point one five thick, a little thick, but I'm actually wearing my C63 today. I didn't even this wasn't planned. Um a silver, white, and black dial. The movement, hang on, let's find it, is the Christopher Ward 002, uh, which my guess is uh the Salita 200 that they have been using with some modules attached to it to add this jumping hour functionality. It is a cost certified watch, and I am kind of gonna end my excitement there. Cause I don't super dig the way they've done the subdials and kind of open heart, open worked feel at the three o'clock. Yeah. Uh it feels it it so we have a five day power reserve chronometer certified subdial at the nine o'clock, a running seconds six o'clock, and then kind of a It's not a teardrop, nor is it an oval. It's an oval, but it's not it's it's like a pointed end oval kind of skeletonization at the three o'clock that butts up right up against the date window. Um and I it feels kind of belcanto y it feels kind of skeletony it feel I I think this fits in the realm that the Bel Canto did where they're trying to be really hot and do some cool shit and they they just it doesn't doesn't land for me dog. The rest of it really excites me. I love this new complication that they've added. I love the jumping hour. I do not care for the power reserve indicator. |
| Everett | Is it a jumping hour? I didn't I didn't notice that. I know it's a true GMT. |
| Andrew | Or a jumping hour hand. Not not a jumping hour. A jumping hour hand |
| Everett | . Um and |
| Andrew | I'm I I I love all of it but for the presentation. I love the idea. Uh it's a really lovely watch. It but it I don't I there's there's something amiss, and I think it's in the the subdial application and this weird skeletonization at the three o'clock uh that I think is unnecessary. And kind of out of character, I think for Christopher Ward, this feels like I don't know, this it it feels like they they overcomplicated it in ways that they didn't need to because something that Christopher Ward has been really good about is their uh and and so bear with me here, their restraint, right? The Belcanto is not a restrained watch, but they didn't go too far with it. They took it right to the edge of the envelope. It's gorgeous. It's functional. They don't have shit they don't need on the Belcanto. As needless as the Belcanto is.'s There not needless stuff applied to it. There is needless stuff applied to this watch and it it feels a little bit like they like they maybe left the stable open overnight and and got ran a little bit wild. Um so a couple notes. Okay |
| Everett | . One, this is the CW02 movement, which is built and based upon the |
| Andrew | CW001 mov |
| Everett | ement, which is FKA |
| Andrew | , uh the SH2 |
| Everett | 1, which is Christopher Ward's all Swiss cost certified in-house movement. Yes. Designed by I think it was designed externally, but then they l |
| Andrew | ater purchased the |
| Everett | company that |
| Andrew | I forgot about that. So yep. Uh it's an |
| Everett | in-house i i this is a truly in-house movement, so so uh contrary to |
| Andrew | your prior slander. It w it was not slant. Oh hang on. I did not mention the price. These are uh four grand. |
| Everett | Yeah. Yeah. On rubber and and for |
| Andrew | ty one hundred money on a bracelet. Yeah, |
| Everett | look. So that that was my next note. So this is I'm gonna push back on something you said, which is that they this is sort of out of character for them. I think that this is actually really a really sensical evolution of perhaps not the Belcanto. The Belcanto sort of is its own thing, but the C12 logo, um the this feels to me like a pretty natural evolution of Christopher Ward's design language. I mean, we have increasingly seen Christopher Ward with its higher end offerings really pushing the limit on um pushing the limits of that sort of entry level micro brand afford, able watch brand. Um but the it design but it all mak |
| Andrew | es sense, right? I think what I'm not I think what bothers me is the weird open work at the three o'clock. I think if that goes away, I'm good with everything else |
| Everett | . And you know, when the loco came out, when the C twelve loco came out, I I had the criticism that hey, you know, this this watch just doesn't really make a lot of sense to me. Like, I I don't understand w why we're doing this. I don't feel that way. I don't feel that way about this watch. This watch makes a lot of sense to me. The open work makes sense to me. They've got this beautiful movement and I forgot |
| Andrew | about the logo. I'm I must have just like obliterated that from my memory. I'm looking at it now and I'm just like, ah, yeah. I see the progression here and I don't like it. Uh with that |
| Everett | said, I I really think this is excellent. I I this is gonna be true for a lot of watches we talk about today, but I am struggling to I'm struggling to think that I would pay four thousand dollars for this |
| Andrew | watch. Um I yeah because at that four thousand dollar price point you're like you're in really really heavy competition that I think I like a lot of other watches $4,000 worth. |
| Everett | I really don't like the endlink. Really don't like it. I like everything else. Aesthetically, I like ever everything else. Um they're giving us this, you know, dimension, it's a 14.15 thick, but it's got this hi-hat crystal without the crystal, just 9.75. Crystal forward. This is obviously a light catcher case, so we're gonna have watch spanks. Um, I I am sure this is gonna work just fine. It is a it is a big watch, but uh I I think it's appropriately sized, especially when you consider that light catcher case. I love the rotor, the rotor looks almost like it's just a sort of a satellite in the middle, uh, but it's got weight to towards one side. I actually think the dial on this is terrific. I love the way that they did the 24 hours. Um, I love the way they did the 12 hours. I love the way they've got these sub-dials, um, including the power reserve. I'm okay with everything here, Andrew. |
| Andrew | It's a well-executed power reserve indicator because it it doesn't scream power reserve indicator. It's not a fan. It's not a half moon. It's not something goofy. It's a full subdial that when you look at it could be anything except that you know it's a power reserve indicator. |
| Everett | And for five days, I don't just I don' |
| Andrew | t I I don't know. I'm this is maybe my first Christopher Ward that I take issues with |
| Everett | . I'm not with you. I I actu |
| Andrew | ally really like it. I do think that pri |
| Everett | ce is a little troublesome. I do think that end link is a lot troublesome. Uh but other than that, I just I I l like it a lot. Um I I it's it they hit for me. I struggle with that price. |
| Andrew | I love that it's Cosk. It's not Cosk plus. |
| Everett | In-house Kosk. Yeah, I |
| Andrew | I love all of that. Mike France says it's a labor of pain, not of love, to get something to production like this. And I I couldn't agree more. I love that it exists. I just I the the design language of the dial just does not resonate with me in the way that a lot of Christopher Ward does. Most of Christopher Ward for that matter. |
| Everett | I'll say one other thing. I often think that Christopher Ward misses with color, at least for my own taste. I really like both of these. I really like both of these dials. We so we've got the silver dial with the like gold or orange accents and then we've got the black dowel with the teal accents. I I think they've done a really good job with the color. The black and |
| Andrew | teal is really good. Yeah. |
| Everett | Um so and and so much of this is subjective, Andrew, right |
| Andrew | ? No, we're we're objective truth tellers. Like our what we say is canon. That's true |
| Everett | . You're not wrong. It is the way |
| Andrew | . It is known. You no, you |
| Everett | 're 100% right about that, Andre |
| Andrew | w. Thank you, I'm aware. Um Tisso. Tiss |
| Everett | o. Tisso, Tisso, Tisso. Tisso just released a new visidate |
| Andrew | . They show did. And |
| Everett | it's sort of an old visidate. So for those of you that got into watches at the same time as |
| Andrew | me, which is to say 20 |
| Everett | 17, 2016 time frame, the Tisso Viso |
| Andrew | date was one of those |
| Everett | watches that was out there, an affordable watch. I mean, I think they came in at anywhere from 50$0 to $800, $700 maybe. |
| Andrew | They were a little bit of a lift for a first watch. That's right. |
| Everett | That's right. But they were beautiful and you could find them used. Um but it was like the type of watch that was always just like right outside of what I wanted. It's kind of a weird watch. That that late teens visodate. I don't know when it came out so I'm just saying for me it was late teens is when I discovered that watch it it's got like this dog bowl mid-case and is kind of thick but not and really attractive I'm sure that it made early on lists for us. Um uh but you know, I think quietly discontinued a couple years ago, probably for good reason. They've reintroduced the visitate, and it's not that. In fact, they've reintroduced the visidate, and I'm just gonna go out on a limb and say this thing is fucking awesome. |
| Andrew | It is hot fire. Um |
| Everett | 39 millimeters, which is in diameter a, slightly slimmer case than the old one. Um, but but really it's just a much more delicate watch, more sporty than the old velvet |
| Andrew | . I think is the way to describe this upgrade. It's felt. W |
| Everett | hat did I say? It got a it got a glow |
| Andrew | up. It did get a glow up |
| Everett | . Um uh the biggest change here is in the dial. So the old visitate had sort of this flat, boring dial, something that I'm a fan of often. Uh, here we've got a pipant dial |
| Andrew | . Uh so we |
| Everett | traded the intrigue of the dog bowl case, which that sounds bad when I say it. I like that case, the original. |
| Andrew | It's a really good case. To a more a |
| Everett | more sort of typical sport dr |
| Andrew | ess. Kind of has kinseiko-y vibes |
| Everett | . But with this lovely pie pan dial uh with a really nice rehot and some good dial texture sort of brushed in the middle um uh you know vertically brushed in the middle, |
| Andrew | but it's not actually brushed outs |
| Everett | ide. It's just brushing patterns. Ye |
| Andrew | ah, that's right. It's not texture. I think it's an important distinction to make |
| Everett | . That's right. A great um, a great sort of angular date window on this thing. Uh man, this is good, Andrew |
| Andrew | . Yes. This |
| Everett | is good. So uh we do have unsurprisingly to anybody who's been following along at home, we've got a powermatic 80 movement in this |
| Andrew | . Whoa. U |
| Everett | h and 850 bucks, 950 bucks for the blue and black on the bracelet, and 850 for the uh silver dial with the faux gold accents. Um |
| Andrew | yeah. This is a |
| Everett | this is a banger. Y |
| Andrew | es. What h what what what |
| Everett | up, T so? Wel |
| Andrew | come back visitate. |
| Everett | I I'm struggling to find it right now, but uh did you see the Z dimension on this, Andrew |
| Andrew | ? It is 10.45. Th |
| Everett | ere you go. With a with a big bo |
| Andrew | x crystal. Which is great. My guess is it's gonna be I mean the looking at the profile of it it's a razor thin i it can't be more than nine thick |
| Everett | really lovely champers on this great bezel thin bezel kind of pushed out to the outside great crown um just a very tasteful very tasteful watch 50 meters of water resistance i mean |
| Andrew | it i i i realize it's |
| Everett | not the same price but when you compare this to the cocktail time or the bambino |
| Andrew | that I think |
| Everett | sort of fill this space, it just maybe a step down. This for me crushes those watches. |
| Andrew | Oh, yeah. And this is this isn't that much more expensive than a cocktail time. |
| Everett | Yeah, certainly not a cocktail time. I mean, it's it's way more expensive than a bambino, but um |
| Andrew | but I think if you're like, and we'll get to a King Seiko release here shortly, but I think if that like 60s feel is what you're looking at, and you're not ready for the $2,000 King Seiko feel but you want all the right reliability all the heritage uh yeah there's something here I do have one complaint I have I have up an article. It's the photography |
| Everett | . The product photography? |
| Andrew | Yeah. What about it? One has to think that you're gonna clean your crystal before you take photographs of it and that this isn't this isn't shit below the crystal. W |
| Everett | hat website is that? I don't think that that's not one of that's not a T so photograph. |
| Andrew | It I don't want to call anybody out by name. |
| Everett | Yeah, fair enough |
| Andrew | . If you're gonna take product photography |
| Everett | , well, that's that's not on T so that's on that specific |
| Andrew | . And any of those. Wpei the dial or the the crystal. Don't don't leave it up to our imagination if their QC is terrible and there's a lint trap underneath the crystal. |
| Everett | Yeah, I mean I I'd say uh unless you really love that silver dial, get this in black or blue on a bracelet. Oh |
| Andrew | , the black is where it's at. The blue is really good. It's like a really like gemstone dark full blue. I I'll leave it to you to actually describe blues because your your blue lexicon is much greater than mine. It's Pantone 346 with a little touch of Pantone 0359. Uh is that accurate? |
| Everett | Let's move it along. Okay. |
| Andrew | Uh this is a killer killer release. Welcome back, Visidate. We're here for the party. |
| Everett | Yeah. Thanks, Visidate. Thanks, Tisso |
| Andrew | . Alwawaysys, al with the win. Uh, I have a fun one. Um J Press and Bamford London have collaborated on the fun Ivy League. So uh Bamford London, I'm sure we've talked about some of their watches before. Uh J Press is a uh very old clothing brand. Sort of a track cl |
| Everett | other. 1902. Yep. |
| Andrew | Uh famous for uh their Ivy League influence, uh a shirt worn by many presidents of these United States. I also own a J Press shirt. |
| Everett | I've got a couple of them. Uh |
| Andrew | but a uh n uh it's not high fashion, but a a very in |
| Everett | trad fashion. Yeah. But it but it ha |
| Andrew | and has been for a hundred and twenty years. Liter |
| Everett | ally. Uh a |
| Andrew | cornerstone of fashion have collaborated on a watch that they're calling the Ivy League. They're making a hundred of these. The dial, in lieu of uh markers has divided the dial up into twelve college pendant triangular shaped uh triangles that's the word I'm looking for. Uh |
| Everett | with Pennant. Penance. W |
| Andrew | hat did I say? Pendant. Pendant. That's different. Penance uh bearing the number of the hour that you're in. They're alternating colors, they're fun, they're only making a hundred of these. |
| Everett | You will not be surprised at the colors when you look at this thing |
| Andrew | . Nope, they will all make sense because they correspond to Ivy League schools. 39mm case, 10.5 thick, with a titanium case, which is brushed and polished, 100 meters of water resistance, uh Slita SW300 movement, a NATO-like strap. Just just you know, playing with fire there. 1600 bucks. Uh, and I think these are just like a fun, colorful release that you'll never see in the wild that uh I I don't know. I think this is this is one of my more favorite fashion brand collaborations. This |
| Everett | feels to me like one of the doucheest wat |
| Andrew | ches ever released. And he decided that after I said it was one of my more favorite ones. |
| Everett | Not at all. No, I specifically didn't put this on my list today. Because I was like, the motherfucker that wears this is insufferable. |
| Andrew | Uh probably. More so even |
| Everett | than me. But we're both insuffer |
| Andrew | able. That's why we get along. |
| Unknown | It's cool, Andrew. I I do like it. I |
| Everett | almost put it on my list and I was like tit |
| Andrew | anium case hate the guy that wears |
| Everett | this. I'm sure of it. Oh, |
| Andrew | definitely. I fucking hate that |
| Everett | guy. Definitely. But |
| Andrew | I like the watch. It's like I like a lot of panor eyes. And when every time I meet somebody who's wearing one, I'm like, shocker |
| Everett | . Jack Mason |
| Andrew | . You |
| Everett | Jack Mason. Jack Mason a brand that I have been increasingly high on. I think everyone's |
| Andrew | increasingly high on. And Jack Mason is getting increasingly high on Jack Mason. Yeah. Yeah |
| Everett | . Jack Mason has introduced, not y |
| Andrew | et released, and I'll get back to that. They' |
| Everett | ve introduced a new skin diver that they're calling the Palmera skin diver, uh, repres |
| Andrew | enting a classic |
| Everett | compressor style, |
| Andrew | skin to everwatch. Just to be clear, this |
| Everett | is not a super compressor, but it is in the compr |
| Andrew | essor style, which is to say tw |
| Everett | in stick. Um it's a |
| Andrew | 39 millimeter, 47 millimeter lugged lug at 108 thick with 200 meters of water resistance. No. I've said |
| Everett | it before, and I'll say it again. But if you can |
| Andrew | get me thinner with 150, I would say do it. They they made choices. Mr. Mason made some choices here. Uh 10 |
| Everett | -8 is fine. It is great. |
| Andrew | Um, we've got an internal dive time bezel controlled via the crown at two o'clock. Uh, we've got different crown markings, but Jack Mason, North Star on the four o'clock, and then a lovely sort of arrow indication, a turning arrow, which I it's cool on the two o'clo |
| Everett | ck. Uh this comes on |
| Andrew | a choice of either FKM rubber tropic style or a seven-link bracelet. Presently you can |
| Everett | choose I see a three-link pic |
| Andrew | ture too. Is that just what I don't know |
| Everett | I I don't know that it comes on the three link. |
| Andrew | There is a picture of this watch on a three link but I think your choices are FKM or seven link. So I think they have it on the three link for the pickleball picture because we can just throw that out of the way. Throw away pickleball, throw away the three link. Because the seven link is fire. We've got great Lumibrite all around, a really great internal bezel that curves and it's got a big chunk of Lumicast on it. Um here's the interesting bit. Oh excuse me. LJPG101 movement in it, which you know is a movement that I'm personally high on. Um, here's the interesting bit. So they are selling |
| Everett | this in a way |
| Andrew | that is slightly diff |
| Everett | erent than I think I |
| Andrew | 've ever seen a company introduce a new watch. Did you say the price |
| Everett | ? Uh I I will get to that. Okay |
| Andrew | . So just just hold hold that th |
| Everett | ought for a moment. That's gone |
| Unknown | . Um, they are |
| Andrew | releasing this through what they're calling the Born and Raised program. And what that me |
| Everett | ans is that they've got a fund |
| Andrew | ing threshold. So this is sort of a mix |
| Everett | between a pre-order system |
| Andrew | and a crowdfunding system. |
| Everett | But it's completely internal. It's the deal |
| Andrew | is you can right now for $1,049 |
| Everett | at a significant discount, a $300 |
| Andrew | discount from retail. Pre-order this. Uh the founders window open until April 3rd. They need to get to 150 pieces. When I checked the website earlier, there were like 66 pieces. So I don't know if they're going to make it or not. Um if they don't make it, you'll get your money back. You will get your money back. Um it watches are tough right now, right? Watches are tough right now. And a thousand dollars a thousand dollar twin stick skin diver is is always going to be a tough watch. If they get to 200, they will have a third model that I think is got some options that people can pick from. Um yes, there's the what are they calling it? They're calling it the |
| Everett | like the dealer's choice or something. |
| Andrew | No, so they're calling it the oh my gosh. Community color |
| Everett | . Yeah. So if they ach |
| Andrew | ieve that threshold, they will also make a third option available, which is a really cool like loom green with blue internal rotating bezel. So this morning at 9 |
| Everett | a.m. they updated. So |
| Andrew | on day three they have 66 units reserved, which means that they're a little less than halfway to their funding goal. So um I don't know. I don't know. Maybe it'll work, maybe it won't. They |
| Everett | are intending after April 4th to |
| Andrew | turn these around in three months, which I think is a good timeline. Yeah, for for having just protot |
| Unknown | ypes. Oh, 120 days, so |
| Andrew | four months. That's |
| Unknown | not a a terrible tur |
| Andrew | n. Nope. Especially when you consider you're getting a pretty big discount. Um, yeah. Anyway, this is a cool watch. It's a it's a cool watch. I think Jack Mason's done a good job with it. I like the dimensions. I like the watch itself. Um |
| Everett | interesting model too. Well uh they' |
| Andrew | re the first ones I've seen do this specific model. So we'll we'll |
| Everett | see how this works. No, I mean we |
| Andrew | 've seen pre-orders before. Yeah |
| Everett | , but this is a little different than a pre-order. It |
| Unknown | yeah. It's like a crowdsourced pre- |
| Andrew | order, an internally crowdsourced pre-order model. That's what most pre-orders are, though. A little different. Um I don't I I I hope it works for 'em because I would like to see Jack Mason continuing to ride their wave of success and not have something flop on them because though they would I think very easily be able to recover from it. Uh I'd I'd like to see them continue with their success. Because they turned they they've turned such a big corner going from like a a primarily quartz fashion brand to to not. Uh and they they're I think they are finding themselves in a little bit of a precarious position to not carry that momentum |
| Everett | . Yeah, we'll see what happens |
| Andrew | . King Seiko, three new Vanic models in full titanium. Uh, I don't really understand what the color deep black is as opposed to just black. Apparently it's it's got great depth. So this is what I do know is once you |
| Everett | go deep black. |
| Andrew | I don't think you have I think you're stuck there. Kind of like a black hole. Do |
| Everett | you know what VANAC what the acronym is? |
| Andrew | Please enlighten me. Vibr |
| Everett | ant, active, novel, alternative, comfortable |
| Andrew | . Hmm. Isn't that like |
| Everett | the worst thing you've ever heard in your life? |
| Andrew | Maybe it's more uh it makes me |
| Everett | comfortable Japanese know that that's true. |
| Andrew | I think I maybe it's more poetic in Japanese. |
| Everett | It's in English. |
| Andrew | Just let's let's hope that it's Seiko, man. What do you want? They they are naming conventions and storytelling is terrible. Um, this is a full titanium 41 millimeter case. It's 14.3 thick, duh, 45 lug to lug, 100 meters of water resistance with a big old fat sapphire flat on it. Like it this why is I just wish Sega would get their sizing right. |
| Everett | It's got the 8L 45 movement. |
| Andrew | It does have the 8L. That's a six millimeter mov |
| Everett | ement. The black and the |
| Andrew | silver are amazing. The purple is also really good. It's not for me, but this black, even with it being a big old chunk, I love. I have yet to meet a King Seiko that I'm not high on. Four thousand bucks though, which is King Seiko money. Um but the three new colors work. Yeah |
| Everett | , three new colors and and really the most important bit of this release is they're they're all 8L |
| Andrew | and all titanium. Yeah. Running in 8L. |
| Everett | I think the Van Eck has always I I think this is just the steel Van Eck case, but rendered in titanium. It ha |
| Andrew | it it ha I think the dimensions are the same. I didn't I didn't cross check that. Yeah. I like the vanic watch though. And I think in titanium this is gonna even for being thick as it is, is gonna be killer. The angles on this thing are they're what a won' |
| Everett | t |
| Andrew | It's not for you. It's on my list. |
| Everett | I I had it on my list to talk about, but I didn't put it on my list to talk about because I love it. I put it on my list to talk about because I |
| Andrew | was like interesting. It does it for me, dude. It is a b |
| Everett | ig old chunky 60s, 70s |
| Andrew | kingseco. Yeah. It's scratching the itch right now. Materials are really n |
| Everett | ice. I'm sure that the uh I'm sure that the fit and finish on this is absolutely nuts. |
| Andrew | Um but four grand though, and I think it's another one of those like I I like other watches $4,000 worth way ahead of where I like this. But I also can't balk at the price like that. It makes sense. |
| Everett | Yeah. It's just I think my four |
| Andrew | thousand dollars goes elsewhere. Where it also makes sense. And I just I like to watch more dollars worth |
| Everett | . Well, since we're at it, let's talk about a uh another set of |
| Andrew | Seiko's released this last week |
| Everett | , which are the new Marine Master Divers |
| Andrew | . Mm-hmm. Uh |
| Everett | Yeah. Yeah. So uh I want to say last year Seiko updated their Marine Master and it was sort of like uh well they fixed some of the problems with that release, I think, which is to say they released the uh a new sort of uh catalog Marine Master with a polished ceramic bezel, eight L movement, and an and the upgraded clasp. They're also releasing this with a limited edition. I I want to say the acronym is JAMSDEC, but it's the Japan Agency for Marine Earth Science and Technology. |
| Andrew | Also very close to James Stacy |
| Everett | . Which is interesting because James Stacy wrote this. Yeah. Um |
| Andrew | Yeah, so uh again |
| Everett | , eight L series movements, 300 meter water resistance, which is not a shock to anybody who's been following the Marine Master. Uh you know what |
| Andrew | they could have done? They should have just dumped it like 100 meters. I can just go full seiko on this. |
| Everett | The jam stack is limited to a thousand pieces. It is a blue, really interesting dial, sort of teal to dark blue to teal gradient and a polished blue bezel. Beautiful. Actually, really beautiful watch. This is not something I'd normally go for, but the way they've rendered this is very cool. It sort of gives like a bit of a polar vibe. W |
| Andrew | hat's that crystal that you crack into that that that looks like a rock on the outside and you |
| Everett | like a cracked? Yeah. |
| Andrew | Yeah, it's got a bit of kinda kinda has that geode not n like there's no symmetry to any of this pattern. It's all very random but all consistent. |
| Everett | So if you don't know Adele is a s |
| Andrew | ort of uh |
| Everett | sort of a pared down Grand Seiko 9-L movement, uh, slightly less well-finished, slightly less |
| Andrew | well-timed, um |
| Everett | , but still pretty good. Minus five plus ten seconds per day. Uh we've got all sort |
| Andrew | s of saco propriet |
| Everett | ary metals in there. Um and these are 3600 for the standard black, 3900 for the jam stack. Uh, |
| Andrew | you get the upgraded move, uh, |
| Everett | upgraded clasp on this, which is fant |
| Andrew | astic. Um, |
| Everett | yeah, I I I'm okay with this release. The SLA 079, I think you can still get it for about three grand or just a little bit less than that. Uh this is better it in just about every single way. Uh for $700 more. This feels to me like a good evolution for this watch |
| Andrew | . Yes, this is a good iteration on the Marine Master that we've seen them kind of playing with for the last seven years. |
| Everett | Yeah. Uh |
| Andrew | and and it it seems like they finally narrowed it down. They they've gotten focused on where they want that marine master line to go. Yeah. And they're following that path. Uh and each iteration that we're seeing now, because we saw one last year that was good. This is good and improved. And every time what I what I hope we don't see is that these improvements also keep pushing it further and further upmarket to like in two years the Marine Master is gonna be sitting at $7500 and we're like, well, you know, they've done this and well |
| Everett | and of course this isn't when I think of a Marine Master, I think of the monoblock cases. Um this is a little slightly different than that. But I I think they've done a good job with this. I I uh I don't mind the price given what |
| Andrew | you're getting, I I I like this |
| Everett | a lot better than I like that van eck |
| Andrew | . Agreed. I |
| Everett | think that this is a really inter |
| Andrew | esting dive watch. Uh just |
| Everett | to talk about dimensions, it is a 42 and a half |
| Andrew | millimeter watch, 14. |
| Everett | 1 thick, which is uh |
| Andrew | , you know, what you would expect, I think, for this watch. Uh, especially given the that it's got that 8045 movement in it, which is again a six millim |
| Everett | eter movement, just the movement. Uh so yeah, these are going to be available in July. Uh with the with the jam stick version being limited |
| Andrew | to a thousand pieces. All right. So citizen. The new photon celebrating 50 years of EcoDrive technology. And I've said it here before, and I think I'll say it again. I think EcoDrive is like one of the coolest movements ever created. Um like it the technology to be able to harness solar power in a watch and run a quartz movement is pretty phenomenal and cool as shit. So we have two versions of the photon that look straight out of nineteen nin95. Maybe 1985. These feel super modern to me. I don't they look like what you would imagine 2026 looks like |
| Everett | . But I think they nailed it |
| Andrew | . Right? They're they're these uh how many sides are these one two three four five six seven three six eight so octagon |
| Everett | al uh we have |
| Andrew | octagonal cases. There's two colorways. |
| Everett | Octagonal-ish. Ye |
| Andrew | ah, they're octagonally round. They're like familiar, but not kind they're they're citizen is what they are. Right? Citizen always has they they're just a little bit different and and usually it's not for the good. I think these are a little bit different for the good. Two colorways, one in all steel with a black and kind of gradient to blue-purple center dial, heavily textured. Uh and then another DLC black and gold with this is this is the dial that I love, man. It's that same heavily textured, almost like looking through a fan gr |
| Unknown | ate over |
| Andrew | a concentric gold and blue circ |
| Unknown | le dial. And this th |
| Andrew | ing is cool. Uh super titanium case 12 month power reserve on a full charge, plus or minus 15 seconds a month. Uh, so to the size, these are gonna be big, and this is where they citizened it up. These are 39.6 millimeter cases. I think the case shape is gonna make it feel really big. |
| Everett | When they're 9.9 thick, I I'm not sure, Andrew. I |
| Andrew | think these are gonna wear, I think these are gonna we |
| Everett | ar very flat. I hope they |
| Andrew | wear flat. So super titanium in both. A DLC, uh they're calling it amber yellow and black, uh, 50 meters of water resistance, full super titanium bracelets on these. And here's kind of where I was surprised. A thousand bucks for the steel, twelve hundred bucks for the DLC. I was expecting Citizen to go stupid on this and and these be like $2,000-ish dollar watches. They |
| Everett | easily could be. They yeah, they |
| Andrew | could be. Uh they're only making 5,000 pieces of each of the colorways. They're going to be available this fall. This is a killer and under a tho |
| Everett | usand bucks. Or right at a thousand bucks for these |
| Andrew | . Yes, this is a killer anniversary watch. It has all the like kind of postmodern feel, really, really like just reasonable citizen design language in it. And from what I can tell, just looking on the product photos and the spec sheet, there's not a clear miss here. And usually when you are dealing with citizen, there's like that one that one little guy that you just can't ignore. I don't see the the little guy that you shouldn't worry about with this. I think they they knock thised out of the park. |
| Everett | Yeah, I I think these are great. I mean, I think that you're getting |
| Andrew | a really interesting |
| Everett | ly designed watch. |
| Andrew | You know, what uh you were |
| Everett | explaining the dial and uh the the entire time I was thinking he's not doing it justice, but I couldn't figure out how to impro |
| Andrew | ve on that. Uh it it it's really interest |
| Everett | ing. It's this dual layered dial |
| Andrew | it like sort of radiator anyway it y you just gotta look at it I think this |
| Everett | this feels to me like it's got some M |
| Andrew | oser vibe with that bracelet. Um it kinda has it But witho |
| Everett | ut being like annoyingly Yeah |
| Andrew | derivative, I really, really like this. I I think it's terrific. I it it wouldn't be it wouldn't be uh an episode of forty and twenty if we didn't criticize it. The crown is too small. Yeah. Uh but that's not that little guy that you would need to worry about. |
| Everett | Crown is too small, but yeah. I mean when are you ever gonna use the crown in it on it anyway? |
| Andrew | So not never. You will set it one time, and as long as it gets a little bit of light over the course of a year, it's going to keep running. And |
| Everett | I love that they've got all these proprietary coatings too. You know, this this it's their proprietary titanium alloy, it's their proprietary DuraTec titanium coatings. Um I just I think this is a really cool watch. |
| Andrew | And for those of you who haven't bought EcoDrive in a while. I have the so the the they are continuing to iterate and improve upon EcoDrive technology. Uh I have a 2016 EcoDrive and a 2023 EcoDrive. The 2016 does not really catch charge when not in a window. So if I want to keep it running, I have to leave it in the windowsill, which is fine. I have a window near like I have a window in my room I don't live in a closet and it just sits in that windowsill. The newer EcoDrive which I fucking dropped the other day cracked the crystal and I'm not sure if it compromised the water resistance. And I cut the shit out of my finger with it. I like you know you drop a watch, you run your finger around the crystal, like ah, what have I done? And that shard of crystal that cracked free embedded itself in me. I had to dig it out. Um but that will charge in just the ambient light |
| Unknown | in a room. Uh and this is this article is saying that. Well, this is |
| Unknown | their newest that you are the new |
| Andrew | est is now saying that like even ar |
| Unknown | tificial light is gonna give it enough to juice it. Um |
| Unknown | these things are super efficient, |
| Unknown | and and and on a full charge, it's gonna run |
| Andrew | a year. So if you wear this watch once |
| Unknown | a year out of doors during the day, you're gonna recharge it to full capacity. Uh I I stand by, I think |
| Andrew | EcoDrive's just one of the cool |
| Unknown | est movement technologies on the planet. And I think citizens |
| Andrew | efforts behind it are maybe |
| Unknown | misplaced. I think they should just use EcoDrive rather than push EcoDrive |
| Andrew | . Yeah. Like Grand Seiko, it's just a spring drive. Like it that's our movement. I think if if citiz |
| Unknown | en used that and then focused more on their design of housing, the Eco Drive, rather than be like,, it it's's E Ecoco Drive D,rive it's Eco Drive. I think they'd find a |
| Andrew | lot more success. Ye |
| Everett | ah, I don't know. Uh I mean they could |
| Andrew | stop doing weird shit and pushing it as e |
| Unknown | co drive and just like do really cool shit. |
| Unknown | I mean, this is weird too, though. This is this is |
| Unknown | n't I don't know. This fucking |
| Everett | weird gives me kinda like rotto-e vi |
| Unknown | bes too. Yeah. I I really like both of these. I immediat |
| Unknown | ely thought Moser when I saw it. U |
| Unknown | h I I really like both these. This this black and gold uh the two |
| Unknown | tone. Yeah. Yeah. It's really good. Ye |
| Unknown | ah, that little splash of blue in the dial that it like you can't quite see where the blue is coming from, but it's there. Super good. |
| Everett | Squale. Ooh hoo. |
| Andrew | We said it right. Squale. We did |
| Everett | say it right. Squale |
| Andrew | . S |
| Everett | quale uh introduced a handful of years ago its sub-39 platform, which they've now sort of pushed as sort of their fl |
| Andrew | agship. Uh as an |
| Everett | evolution of that That they have released this week the sub |
| Unknown | 37 legend |
| Everett | . And uh I I read about this watch and I was very, very interested. And I got less interested, but I decided to talk about it anyway because I think Squale is a really intri |
| Unknown | guing brand. Obviously, a very ol |
| Everett | d company, a company that's made mid-cases for a very long time for some big heav |
| Unknown | y hitters. Uh, this is |
| Everett | a company that really has a lot of history and I think is sort of figuring out maybe |
| Unknown | slowly how to be a brand in the 2 |
| Everett | 1st century. Um, but they're doing it. And they've released a new watch that I find pretty intriguing, which is to say a 37 millimeter dive watch that is not |
| Unknown | a sub homage or whatever when I think of squale. That was certainly my first impression of squale was we make submariners. Um |
| Andrew | because they have |
| Everett | and they do. And they do, but |
| Unknown | the like I I I think they're one of the brands that can and perhaps should. |
| Everett | Yeah, it does feel that way. Um it does feel that way. Yeah, yeah, I'm I'm with you. |
| Unknown | This is this is |
| Everett | actually just a really |
| Unknown | cool |
| Everett | 37 millimeter sort of classic feeling |
| Unknown | dive watch. Uh, really sort of obviously based on 1960s dive watches. |
| Everett | Um, we do have some old radium loom |
| Andrew | , which gives it a dec |
| Everett | idedly phoetina look. In |
| Unknown | addition to that, we've got sort of amber letters on the |
| Everett | bezel that's underneath a glass |
| Unknown | , you know, giving it sort of a bakelite impression. Um |
| Unknown | erals. Yeah. Okay |
| Unknown | . Sort of glass box crystal. |
| Everett | Um 300 met |
| Unknown | ers of water resistance, dou |
| Everett | ble squale log |
| Unknown | os on the dial, which is a lot. This has got a lot, it's a very small dial, and it's got a lot on it |
| Unknown | . But it but it's not a lot because it's the same thing a couple times. |
| Everett | Yeah, that's right. I think you only need one |
| Unknown | logo. Not four. |
| Andrew | Yeah, it's so I was reading a little bit about this |
| Everett | . So they've got their standard word |
| Unknown | mark, the squale word mark, |
| Everett | but then they've got their shark, their |
| Unknown | squale shark, and that's what that is. Squale shark is a |
| Everett | logo that they used in particul |
| Unknown | ar back in the 60s and 70s for |
| Everett | their mid-case manufacture |
| Unknown | . And so I think that they've included this to represent that they're making their own watches. Um so there's a historical thing here |
| Everett | . This comes on a bonnet bonetto |
| Unknown | strap, which is sort of the cream of the crop Italian vulcanized rubber. It's it's flared around the lugs. It's this is a really classic bonetto strap. |
| Everett | Um this is where I |
| Unknown | kind of take a little pause. These are |
| Everett | priced at $17.5 |
| Unknown | 0. With an S |
| Unknown | W two hundred. With an SW |
| Everett | two hundred, that's right. Um hm |
| Unknown | . I |
| Andrew | I mean, I know it costs what it |
| Unknown | costs, right? And and Squale typically, when we look at their watches, the price makes sense |
| Everett | . Does this make sense |
| Unknown | ? This one this one doesn't th this one I'm I'm |
| Andrew | wondering if the pricing is refle |
| Unknown | ctive of geopolitical things right now |
| Andrew | . This feels to me like a |
| Everett | thousand dollar watch all day. |
| Unknown | A twelve hundred dollar watch. |
| Everett | Yeah. I think sub fifteen hundred |
| Andrew | seventeen fifty? I'm like, who |
| Unknown | a. Yeah. S |
| Andrew | quale. Who the f what |
| Unknown | ? I I think we are I I think this is a function of um our globalized economies right now less so than it is the watch. |
| Unknown | I was pretty taken aback. |
| Andrew | I think it's probably 30% |
| Unknown | higher to absorb some stuff |
| Everett | . Yeah. But everyt |
| Andrew | hing else I love. Really? |
| Unknown | The Sapphire bezel |
| Andrew | insert it refle |
| Unknown | cts that amber in the bezel in a really, really satisfying way that just warms up. Like |
| Andrew | I would have never thought that I would describe black dial, black bezel as warm. And this is just a really warm soft |
| Unknown | color palette for this wat |
| Andrew | ch that is really pleasing. Uh the the shark logo and the the 12 that I'm glad you said that was a shark because that's not what I thought that it was. |
| Unknown | What'd you think it was? This is not |
| Andrew | appropriate. This is a this is a family show. |
| Everett | Okay. That |
| Andrew | 's right where I went. What's ne |
| Everett | xt? I you know, I think when we look at |
| Andrew | our time, we're at 55 minut |
| Everett | es. You know what? Not |
| Andrew | hing else really has me that excited. |
| Everett | There's nothing else on your list that has me excited either. So |
| Andrew | shocker. Uh and we exhausted your list after our first one. |
| Everett | Not true. Uh I guess that's a good enough time to call it. Andrew, other things, what do you got? |
| Andrew | Oh, I didn't prepare another thing. Yes |
| Everett | , you did. I always prepare another thing |
| Andrew | . Um you liar. |
| Unknown | So I I talked about having an air f |
| Andrew | ryer I don't know year or two ago when I |
| Unknown | got one. Uh and I've been |
| Andrew | I use it pretty regularly. I have a new favorite thing for the air fryer. Like three months ago, I was at the grocery store and I was I have this stupid thing where I have to walk through every aisle of the grocery store when I go. I can't just go get a thing. Um which sucks, especially if you're in a hurry. You can shake your head all you want. I just can't. I can't not walk through an aisle. Even if I know I don't need anything in that aisle. I didn't look. I just walked through it. I'm in the frozen food section, in the patatas with the potatoes because I needed french fries. And I'm walking, walking towards my French fries. I know where they are. And I stopped 'cause there was somebody obstructing the aisle and I look over and |
| Unknown | I can't believe this |
| Andrew | was news to me. I |
| Unknown | saw sleeves of |
| Andrew | hash brown patties. Like pre-pattied up, ready to go, whole sleeve of them. And I was like, oh, that would be really |
| Unknown | nice for breakfasts. |
| Andrew | So and and for those of you who have young kids, for some reason public school starts so fu |
| Unknown | cking early |
| Andrew | . So it's like wake up, mad dash, feed, pack |
| Unknown | , scramble out the door. |
| Andrew | I don't know if you don't have that experience anymore. The school that you take your k |
| Everett | ids to is two minutes away. Serves |
| Andrew | breakfast. They do, but they they don't |
| Unknown | they don't like it. Okay, well |
| Unknown | I told my kids, fuck off. You're eating it |
| Unknown | . Anyway, we have to make our kids breakf |
| Andrew | ast in the morning. I got these hash brown patties ten minutes in the air fryer, and they are s they are McDonald's quality hash browns. Love them. They are fantastic. They when you I looked at the ingredients because I was like, there's gotta be something in these. They're pre-salted, they're pre-oiled. So you just throw those things in the air fryer. They like as they melt, they crisp up like the as the |
| Unknown | ice melts because they come right out of the freezer. |
| Andrew | 10 minutes in the air fryer at 400 degre |
| Unknown | es. They come out magically cris |
| Andrew | py on an English muffin with a fried egg. Oh my gosh, I cannot believe that I am just now becoming aware of pre |
| Unknown | -made hash brown patties. That's my other thing. Uh, if you |
| Andrew | have an air fryer and you're not doing this, uh welcome to the next phase of your life. |
| Unknown | Yeah, it's great. They're amaz |
| Andrew | ing. I do love air fryer hat |
| Unknown | ch front patties. I don' |
| Unknown | t I we're kind |
| Andrew | of an ingredient house, so like we don't have a lot of stuff like that, but man |
| Everett | . Yeah, no, it's perfect. Ye |
| Unknown | ah, it's one of my favorite things. Yeah. Well |
| Everett | , I'm glad that you're I'm glad that you're en |
| Andrew | joying that. I love it. So hash brown pat |
| Unknown | ties. Next time you walk through the freezer aisle on your way to get uh Arby's curly fri |
| Andrew | es or seasoned potato wedges |
| Unknown | , grab you a sleeve of hash brown patties because they are the truth |
| Everett | . A couple different things on my |
| Unknown | list that could have been other things this week, but ultimately, there was really just one thing it could be. Um because |
| Everett | I bought a new multi-tool this week, |
| Unknown | Andrew. And Oh, I didn't realize that that |
| Unknown | was new. That's why it was stiff. |
| Everett | Um you |
| Unknown | know, you you've known me long enough, Andrew, and perhaps you at home have also known me long enough to know this was not |
| Unknown | 18 years I've known you. Is that |
| Everett | right? Yeah. Man, that |
| Andrew | 's a long time. We we |
| Unknown | could date our relationship now |
| Everett | . Um Yeah. This was not an easy this was not an |
| Unknown | easy purchase for me. W which is not to say I it was particularly hard. In fact, it |
| Everett | 's sort of enjoyable for me to go through this |
| Unknown | process. But um |
| Everett | an interesting thing happened, Andrew, something I did not expect. The last |
| Unknown | time I purchased a multi-tool was in 2008, which was the year I met |
| Everett | you, I guess. Yeah. Uh and I spent a lot of time |
| Unknown | on that purchase. And I at the time spent what I thought was kind of an absurd amount of money. I don't know how much it was. I think probably a hund |
| Unknown | red-ish doll |
| Andrew | ars. Maybe a kid aga |
| Unknown | in where a hundred dollars was |
| Andrew | Yeah, it was a big purchase. |
| Unknown | It was a big purchase. Uh and I b |
| Andrew | ought a Leatherman wave. I bought a Leatherman wave and I really loved that |
| Unknown | tool. Um |
| Andrew | and I and I bought that |
| Unknown | I bought that based on sort of a compilation of reviews. You know, this is sort of olden days, right? There's YouTube was kind of a new thing |
| Andrew | and uh did it hit the for |
| Unknown | ums. That's right. Hitting the |
| Andrew | forums and and ultimately |
| Unknown | decided on the Leather Wave, Leatherman wave. And |
| Andrew | and it was a great tool. And I l |
| Unknown | ost that thing. I l |
| Everett | ost that thing in the des |
| Unknown | ert at Fort Hortwin |
| Andrew | . Um and w which was sad, which was a sad da |
| Unknown | y. I think that was 2016 or |
| Andrew | so. Um, and I |
| Everett | 've just I've just not bought a multi |
| Unknown | -tool again. I don't have a lot of use for a multi-tool, but |
| Andrew | recently I've started I've picked up a couple h |
| Unknown | obbies and I I needed I wanted to have a multi-tool. I didn't nobody needs to, but I thought, you know, this is |
| Unknown | you kinda need to. It's a multi-tool. |
| Unknown | This is really a this is |
| Andrew | really a time I I'm doing |
| Unknown | these things where I I really would like to have a multi-tool. So |
| Andrew | I doing what I |
| Unknown | do went back. I hit the forums. I hit YouTube. I hit reviews and articles. |
| Andrew | And an interesting thing happened, Andre |
| Unknown | w. You did it again. I landed |
| Everett | on the same tool. Britney gotcha. I landed on the sam |
| Unknown | e tool. I purchased |
| Everett | not exactly the same tool. I purchased a |
| Unknown | Leatherman Wave Plus. Uh which |
| Everett | is I found I al |
| Unknown | most resisted that because |
| Everett | I thought, you know, 18 |
| Unknown | years later, this c |
| Everett | annot still be |
| Unknown | the best option for |
| Everett | me. And at the end of the day, I decid |
| Unknown | ed, you know, it was. Now, there are Leat |
| Everett | herman makes higher end tools than this. They make |
| Unknown | their arc, which is sort of their B's knees, Magna Cut tool. They do have a newer version of the wave that has G10 grips and a magna cut blade, but but |
| Unknown | then you're moving out of like a handheld multi-tool and into like a a a power tool sized thing. |
| Everett | Well, similar, similar sizes. Um, I also tried other manufact |
| Unknown | urers. I held other manufacturers, particularly SOG and Gerber, both sell some really interesting did not like the form factor. |
| Andrew | Because multi-tools have kind of gone out of fas |
| Unknown | hion in the last five to ten |
| Andrew | years. Ultimately I just boug |
| Everett | ht the same fucking tool. Couple differences, right? This is the |
| Unknown | plus. So it's got um replaceable screwdrivers, it's got |
| Everett | compatibility with Leatherman's bit set, not incl |
| Andrew | uded. Um but I could |
| Unknown | that's a really cool functionality. Their little |
| Andrew | bit driver set is really great. It's propri |
| Unknown | etary it's a proprietary hex, um w which |
| Everett | is annoying. A little annoy |
| Unknown | ing, but but also I understand why they do it. |
| Unknown | You have to build an ecosystem, yeah. Uh |
| Everett | the other difference is this I got the oxide |
| Unknown | version this time. My my prior version was sta |
| Everett | inless and and he's still lost |
| Andrew | in the desert. You couldn't just shine a light at night. I know |
| Everett | . I went with the oxide version and I'm glad I did. This is a |
| Andrew | very rugged fe |
| Everett | eling tool. And as soon as it got into my hands, I was like, you know what? I just love this thing. Um, I've been just playing with it, I've just been carrying it around and playing with it. |
| Unknown | You gotta break that thing in, it's really stiff. |
| Unknown | It is stiff. The black oxide, leatherman's black oxide is notoriously stiff, and this is no different. |
| Everett | So I'm going to play with this thing and and love it and use it. You know, m |
| Unknown | ade in the USA. Oh that was one of my that |
| Everett | was one of my big uh |
| Unknown | one of the big benefits. I I really love that |
| Andrew | this is made in the USA. N |
| Unknown | ot that I'm like Merica USA USA, but I do like that they're supporting and doing local manufacturing. |
| Everett | That was one of my big things was |
| Unknown | made in the USA. It's super affordable. The the multi-tool game is weird right now. You know, everything's a hundred bucks. |
| Andrew | Mm-hmm. You know, really like 80 to |
| Unknown | 100 bucks. This is in there. 120, you can pay a lot more than this for a multi-tool in 2026. So um, |
| Everett | yeah, that's my other thing for the week. Leather |
| Unknown | man Wave Plus is |
| Everett | my new multi-tool, which is the same mul |
| Unknown | ti-tool that I chose 18 years ago, I just thought that was the we |
| Everett | irdest thing. It's kind of a surprise for me, I f |
| Unknown | elt like. What are the od |
| Everett | ds? But the multi-tool |
| Unknown | game is kinda |
| Andrew | cornered, right? Everyone makes a multi-tool. But not everyone makes a good multi-tool. Gerber |
| Unknown | , Sog, Leatherman are the only brand big Tor |
| Unknown | inox. |
| Andrew | Yeah. I know they make them. |
| Unknown | I put them in I I don't class them the same. |
| Unknown | Sure. Fair enough. Uh because |
| Unknown | everyone makes a multi-tool. |
| Andrew | Like but th |
| Unknown | ose three brands kind of have the corner. Like, |
| Andrew | I wouldn't put Columbia River Knife and Tool |
| Unknown | even in the category, and I know they make multi-tools. Uh Gerber, Sog, Leatherman, those are the people that do it. And the reason that people don't c |
| Andrew | all them multi-tools are like, hey, let me see your Leatherman |
| Unknown | . Yeah. Is because Leather |
| Andrew | man does it |
| Unknown | maybe the best. And I |
| Andrew | think you just have to find the one that you like the best. Like I |
| Unknown | have I have a Leatherman multi-tool that I'm I'm okay with, but my two preferred multi-tools are not Leatherman made. There's there's they're sock and Gerber. |
| Everett | This said this just, I think, the ex |
| Unknown | act right tool setup for me |
| Everett | . This doesn't have really anything that I did |
| Unknown | n't want. You know, you know, every other tool I looked at, it had things I didn't want. |
| Everett | Um, this has two blades |
| Unknown | . Uh we've got a serrated blade and just a flat blade. |
| Andrew | Yeah, just a drop point. Uh it |
| Everett | 's got a saw |
| Unknown | , which is a pretty effective saw |
| Everett | , and it's got a file, |
| Unknown | a double-sided file. I thought, you know |
| Everett | , I like all of those. Those are all use |
| Unknown | ful. Inside, it's got the back |
| Unknown | and the the back of the file's for strike and flint, isn't it |
| Andrew | ? I you know, I don't know, Andrew. That |
| Unknown | that wouldn't surprise me. I think that's why it' |
| Unknown | s so gnarled. Obviously, p |
| Unknown | liers. We've got a screwdriver with that aforementioned proprietary hex set. So right now it's got both a flat head and a Phillips head |
| Everett | , uh, and then a can opener, |
| Unknown | bottle opener, and then the other s |
| Everett | ide has scissors. Who doesn't want |
| Unknown | scissors? A micro screwdriver, flat and phillips |
| Everett | , and then a pair of scissors. |
| Unknown | Oh, would I just said scissors? And then a big, a big flathead screwdriver. Uh aka pry bar. Uh I was like, yeah, I like |
| Everett | this doesn't have anything I don't want. Every |
| Unknown | other tool I looked at, I was like, I don't even really know what that is |
| Everett | . That tool, I don't even really know |
| Unknown | what it does. This does not have anything like that. I was like |
| Everett | , this is the best multi-tool. It |
| Andrew | it's up there me for at least. |
| Unknown | Certainly up there. For me at least. So yeah |
| Everett | , 18 years later, I went with the same thing I bought |
| Unknown | 18 years ago and I don't feel bad about it at all. In fact, I got it and I was like, really glad I have this back |
| Unknown | . Look at you. Replaceable |
| Unknown | wire cutters on the pliers, lifetime warrantied. Break something, send it in, they'll fix it |
| Unknown | . Look at that. Andrew |
| Unknown | , anything you want to add before we move it along for the day |
