| Andrew | Hello, fellow watch lovers, nerds, enthusiasts, or however you identify. You're listening to 40 in 20, the Watch Clicker podcast with your hosts, Andrew and my good friend, Everett. Here, we talk about watches, food, drinks, life, and other things we like. Everett, how are you? |
| Everett | Better now. That's so good. No, I'm fine. You know, I was in... Andrew, I was in trial all day. And... I was in trial with a really good attorney on the other side. Were you looking at a mirror? No. No, but that was well played and fair enough. No, I was in trial with a good attorney. |
| Unknown | You know, but he's like a solo attorney and he's kind of like, I don't know. |
| Everett | He's not sleazy at all. In fact, he's super professional. But he just has this sort of freewheeling approach. And it can catch you off guard because he's actually really... So I was working really hard mentally to not like the guy. Like, no. No. I mean, not like that. I'm familiar with him. It's the first time I've ever had a... Anyway, it was just challenging. Like it's just like really putting – and he doesn't – he doesn't like – it's not like a trial that we prepped a long time for. Like he kind of showed up at the last minute. He's just really good on his feet. And I'm more like a guy I need to prep and be prepared. And like he's really challenging me in real time. Like it was just uncomfortable and it was hard and it was exhausting. We got done for the day and I was like, I'm exhausted. |
| Andrew | When do you find out if you won? |
| Unknown | You know, hard to say. I think it's going to be a couple weeks. |
| Everett | Yeah. Bummer. Yeah. Andrew, how are you? |
| Andrew | I'm also good. You know, just chilling, drinking some beer. We're going to talk about watches. I started a cool documentary. It's the... like happening in real time behind the scenes documentary of the making of the John Wick franchise. |
| Everett | Okay. |
| Andrew | Which is really, really fun. Say what you will about the John Wick series. They're super fun. They're just fun. And this is a documentary that was made over the course of the production and then post like John Wick becoming this kind of thing. And it's really fun so far just to see everything, like all of the, all of the things that just happened to come together to get there and then turn into four movies that are fun to watch. I think it's called wick is pain. |
| Unknown | I'll have to look at it. |
| Andrew | Yeah. It's I, I've enjoyed it so far. I've probably watched 40 minutes of it and learned way more about John Wick than I ever thought that I would be interested in learning. And I'm pleased that I know all the things about it. Yeah. |
| Everett | You know, John Wick is one. I agree with you. They're fun. But like looking back, I'm like, do I need to do that? I don't know. I don't love it. But they are fun. |
| Andrew | I probably watch all four of them, and I watch them in sequence. I can't watch just one. Probably once a year, I'll watch all four of them. That's how I ruin a day. That's absurd. They're just fun. It's just a waste of a day. No, they just sit in the background while I cook or do laundry and dishes and clean the house. You only get 365 days a year. And I'm okay with that being background noise, one of them. You're like using 0.3% of your life for John Wick. |
| Everett | All right. Say what you will about him. Douche. Good enough. Here we are. Here we are talking about watches. |
| Andrew | Are we? Theoretically. Can I talk about a book first? Sure. There's a Hodinkee article. It's a book review on the book About Time, A Children's Guide to the History and Science of Time, written by Eleanor Awero. I think is how you would say that, A-U-J-E-R-O, who is the nine-year-old daughter of a Hodinkee employee. And this is her book report on this book about time. Number one, it's adorable. And I love that Hodinkee... got behind something as like adorable as this. And it's a nine-year-old's book report on a really cute book that describes the history and technological development and kind of like bigger ideas of time and timekeeping in the world. And it's really cute. And I really enjoyed reading her book report and I will be buying this book. |
| Everett | All right. It sounds fun. I saw you sent this. In fact, I saw this on Hodinkee earlier, and I was like, yeah. But now I'll go back and read it. |
| Andrew | Yeah. I mean, it's a nine-year-old's book report, so it takes you three and a half minutes to read. |
| Everett | I wish all the comments seemed really positive, and I wish that it was just typical Hodinkee comment. |
| Andrew | Like, gosh, great use of grammar. |
| Everett | Why don't you try growing up a little bit, Eleanor? |
| Andrew | What's she even wearing? Oh, trash watch. It's a cute book. It's a cute book report. I haven't read the book, obviously, but reading her book report about it, I want to read it, and I want to get it for my kids. So we have ours for Rolex, and both of my kids have thoroughly enjoyed that book. |
| Everett | Atelier Wynn. Oh, bold play right out of the gate. It's because it's just, I fucking hate it. I hate everything about this. |
| Andrew | I have really mixed feelings. I won't go so far as to say hate, though. I don't hate it either. |
| Everett | I mean, look, I don't hate the watch. I also don't love the watch. But Atelier Wynn released a new watch this week called the Inflection. famously an affordable watch brand well yeah i mean i don't know if i'd call them affordable watch brand but they're you know a micro brand essentially and they're they're selling |
| Andrew | Three-ish thousand dollar and under watches. |
| Everett | Yeah. They released a watch made out of tantalum. |
| Andrew | The inflection is made out of tantalum. Which is the mineral, if I'm not mistaken, that's mined on Pandora in the Avatar movies, correct? |
| Everett | No, that's unobtainium. Ah. No, tantalum is heavy and dense and hard to machine. It's sort of like a... Maybe there's an attribute to tantalum that makes it desirable. |
| Andrew | It's unique. It's different. It's not a precious metal, but it is. I... The idea that it's heavy... |
| Unknown | This is a $30,000 watch. |
| Everett | It's poor man's platinum, I feel like. These dials are both gorgeous. I'll give it that. They are. Both of the dials are gorgeous. There's like sort of a hammered Grand Feu enamel. That looks like dragon skin. Yes. And then sort of just bottom of your soul black. |
| Andrew | with gold the fonts on these are interesting they're it's not i was looking forward to your critique of the fonts well because they don't seem to match the rest of the watch they're a decision yep but they don't seem to match this kind of like futuristic sort of familiar sport watch feel this feels like like an art deco dress |
| Everett | Yeah, I feel it's more of like an oriental italics, you know, like maybe a Turkish italics. It's interesting. And I think it's probably unique to this watch or unique to the Tellurian. It's interesting. I don't love it, but it is interesting. And I mean that in a good way. I mean that in a positive way. But, you know, interesting only gets you so far. Andrew, I just don't get that. It's $30,000? |
| Andrew | I don't see it either. And we've seen this a couple times this year where a brand who lives in one space is like, you know what we're going to do? We're going to drop a tourbillon on that bitch and make it 10 times more expensive than any watch you've ever seen from us. I mean, whatever. |
| Everett | At least with a tourbillon, I can get it, right? I sort of get a tourbillon. Sort of. |
| Andrew | I don't. I think it's equally... It is maybe less confusing because who's using tantalum? |
| Everett | Well, the point is maybe that no one is using tantalum. So there are definitely some watches that are being made in tantalum. Atelier Wen sort of makes a point that they're the first people to be making a production watch in tantalum. and all right that's fine i don't get it it's i don't get it that's fine um I will say about these that they're coming with a customized Gerard Perrigo movement, specifically a customized 03300 caliber, which is... heavily finished custom finished with these sort of beautiful skeletonizations and bridges that are made for a tellier when, or made by a tellier when with really cool, uh, And anyway, it's a gorgeous, very cool movement. And I can't think of anybody else using a custom Gerard Perrigo movement in their micro brand watch. So that's cool. I also, it's also an enamel dial and a beautiful Grandview enamel, Vitreous Grandview enamel dial. Someone says, well, let's see who this is. This is Tonton, I think. He says, I just want to read off. I'm going to quote it. He says, he says, hold on. Perhaps a Tellurian has created a watch targeted to the most niche of niche when it comes to buyer demographics. But I actually think that the price seems fair here. You're stupid. Sorry. That's stupid. What an excellent review. I don't know, Tonton. I actually don't even know if I'm saying his name right, and I hope I am, but he's a great writer. I really appreciate his articles. I read that and I was like, just stop it. Just know it's not. |
| Andrew | It doesn't make sense. It's a confusing release. This isn't the first confusing release we've seen this year. |
| Everett | From a telly or when, right? Yeah. I think they're a cool company. They're doing good things. Interesting things. This watch is so weird. |
| Andrew | You know, though, I like this watch in steel. I kind of like everything about this watch, but then they made it weird. Is the, um, it's like 24 hours smoking a Wagyu brisket. |
| Everett | Is the balance that's opposite the crown guard bigger than the crown guard? |
| Andrew | I think it just appears that way because of the crown. It's, it's, it's not really crown guarding. I see what you mean. All right. |
| Everett | All right. Carry on next. Uh, |
| Andrew | Yeah. Okay, so our friend, Haim, we have to talk about the anim. And it is... So when we talked to Zakir at Wind Up, he talked a lot about finding his brand identity over the last five years. And when he started, he was looking to make... Watches for everyone. Watches that everyone would like. Because he's trying to build a brand. He's not a dummy. He's not trying to build a watch for one person because you need to sell more than one watch to be viable. But over the course of his five years of watch brand ownership has decided that he... He wanted to make watches for him, like watches that he really wanted to see made and watches that he liked. And the Anom is not a culmination, I think is a stepping stone along that journey that he's on. So this is a... Hang on, I want to make sure I get it. It has a complete calendar, moon phase complication. It is a... gorgeous watch. His watches are watches that they look good in pictures. And then you see them in person and you're kind of stunned by them. And then you see the price tag. So this is a heavily developed movement based off of the... caliber hwc2 and it's based on the on a miota 9000 which one would expect out of a brand of this size and if we get down to the price point of Right now on reservation, $1,650. And when they move to retail, $2,150. And this is, it's a bit thick. It's a bit of a chunk. And you'd sort of expect that for a perpetual calendar moon phase movement. There's a lot of stacking of complications on this. And it's just absolutely... Lovely. It's 12 millimeters thick, which, again, you kind of come to expect with this many complications going into a watch, especially if we're building off of a 9000 movement. It comes in four dial colors. Oh, excuse me, three dial colors, a dark cobalt, stone white, and a fumet. The white was the one that really got me. I know I was faster than him, but I didn't run. The fume is kind of like a skeletonized looking down into the movement, which I get why people like that. That doesn't really do it for me. The blue is okay, but the white was money. Because it really gives a good contrast to that moon phase complication. |
| Everett | Yeah, I mean, I'm a huge fan. I'm a huge fan of this watch. When we talked to Zakir, he said, really, the hit of the show was the sapphire dial. And that makes sense to me. I think it's the most sort of eye-catching. But I really think that this white dial has something going for it. Just this really classic... Yeah, this is not a watch that I would have expected to like. And I just was kind of... I was kind of stunned by this watch. Which is not to say I would expect anything less from Zakir. You know, the way he thinks about watches is really just... He's got a really sort of classic thought process, but this, it's a really special watch, I think. I think he hit it out of the park. I hope people can see this watch and understand how cool it is. |
| Andrew | And the, it's not a perpetual calendar, right? You know, you're not going to get there basing your movement off of a 9,000, but he's doing this kind of high horology thing. at a pretty affordable price point. Finishing on these is good. The design language is really good. I think he knocked this one out of the park for his five-year anniversary. |
| Everett | Yeah. We're calling it a complete calendar, right? Yeah. Terrific. Really terrific movement. Terrific. The dial finishing is... This one surprised me a little bit, Andrew. |
| Andrew | Everything at his table surprised me. Like in a really positive way. This one surprised me. |
| Unknown | Yeah. |
| Everett | Le Boys. Le Boys? Le Boy & Co. |
| Unknown | This is an old company. |
| Everett | Le Boy & Co. is maybe Le Bois. Le Bois. Luke. Luke, help. I think this is... Just voice to text it. |
| Andrew | Lebois. Lebois. I think it's Leboys. I think it's like Saturdays for the boys. Or maybe Lebois. |
| Everett | The new Lebois and Co. Heritage Small Seconds Collection, a classic mid-century inspired dress watch. I didn't, I've not heard of Lebois. In 2022, they released a watch called the Heritage Chronograph. You know, it looks nice. Not a watch that would have caught my, just not a watch that would have caught my attention. It was revived in 2015. This brand was revived in 2015 by Tom Van... Willick, a dungeon shop entrepreneur who's also responsible for A-Rank. And they have spent the last, what is that? Three years. Ten years or so releasing watches that are not interesting to me. However, they did a good one. Andrew? Yeah. They did a good one. I think this is good. So what this is, this is, I feel like the microphone's evading me. It's actively. You're both static. It's. Get over. |
| Andrew | I'm actually holding a boom mic for this episode just, you know, to be fun. |
| Everett | And he's just moving it around the room chasing, gotcha, dollar. |
| Unknown | This is sort of a 19, what do we say, 1950s small seconds three-hand watch that shouldn't be rad and yet... |
| Everett | and yet uh so 38.7 millimeter case 10 and a half thick 50 meters of water resistance so like okay what yeah all right it's got a it's got um a caliber lc 350 which i think is just a salida uh 300. It's a 300 small seconds. It's the 360 dash one small seconds, which runs at four Hertz, 56 hour power reserve. This one's cost certified. Okay. Um, you got me. It is, uh, got a terrific 45 and a half millimeter lug to lug. I mean, just, so just based on specs, we're there, right? And a fix a flex bracelet. |
| Unknown | And then you, like, and you, like, zoom in. You're like, well, wait a minute. |
| Everett | This is rad. What's chronometry? Chronometer. Ah. That's your cost certification. Ah. Yeah. 2,200 euro for this thing? The black dial? is like this dusty sort of grainy, and it's got this fantastic ribbon chamfer on the lugs that transfers also to the bezel, this very thin bezel. We've got like a railroad minute track, the hands, the numerals. I mean, this is not, it's not original. |
| Andrew | Everything's just well executed. But everything is really, really well executed. The crown proportion is perfect. The buckle? It's a weird thing to get excited about, but the buckle? You always be getting excited about the buckle. |
| Everett | Give me that buckle. This is a really great watch. Yeah, it's a cool release. I'm kind of into this. Listen, the boys, come on over. |
| Andrew | Come on over there, boys. Yeah, that's all I have to say about it. It's a winner. And here's why I like it. It is so perfectly boring. So boring. So perfectly boring. It's got... All of the things that I want and none of the things that I don't. The finishing on it does look fantastic. And we're seeing renders, I think. So hard to say, right? But, you know, I got to think that that's actually where they're going to land. And it's coming on a stretch bracelet. |
| Everett | Yeah, so it's in pre-order. Pre-order until November 28th. Estimated delivery is spring of 2026. So they're not done yet. |
| Andrew | No, but it's also not Kickstarter. |
| Everett | And then a Fix-A-Flex stretch bracelet is the deal. Yeah. This is spicy. |
| Andrew | Yeah, it's a little hot. |
| Everett | He's a spicy. |
| Andrew | Can I talk about... You can talk about whatever you want. Now, my favorite Mr. G ever released. Whoa. It is a square G with a hand-hammered It's hand-hammered using the suiki. Suiki? I think is probably what we're going to go with that. Japanese metalworking process by which metal is hand-hammered into form with a... It looks like a... It looks like a golf ball. That's where we're going to settle. Just light dimpling all over the entire case. It's $8,000. Pass. I'm obviously also going to pass. But I love... The finishing on this. If you want to get me one, my birthday could be coming up. |
| Everett | Fucking G-Shock people. You know what? You know what Casio could do? They could give Kiko Ibe a watch and be like, hey. Why don't you just put this in your ass for a year and wear it every day? Just when you poop, just put it back in. And it could be like hand patinated, ass patinated by Kikuo eBay. |
| Andrew | Here, spit it. We'll open up the case back. Spit onto the module. |
| Unknown | Who the fuck wants this? I want that. Stop it. |
| Andrew | What do you want it for? This is fucking dumb. Oh, no. It looks so cool. It's ridiculous. It's stupid. It's ridiculous. And talk about a go fuck yourself watch. It's a square G that costs $8,000 made of hand hammered metal. That's as go fuck yourself as it gets. |
| Everett | Like I can appreciate like art for art's sake, but this is just like labor for labor's sake. |
| Andrew | Yeah, because it's just a G-Shock movement. |
| Everett | I don't see it. I am here for it. I don't see it and I don't want it. I do. Ass patinated by Kiko. |
| Andrew | I want that one too. We've talked about some GFY watches. This is it. This one wears the crown. |
| Unknown | Man. Is it just titanium? Do this in... No, it's not titanium. It's steel. |
| Everett | Fuck off. Give me tantalum. |
| Andrew | Give me squeaky hammer tantalum and I'm fucking in. And then let it patina and kikui base. |
| Everett | I feel maybe I'm feeling cynical right now, but you are. |
| Andrew | You're in kind of an interesting mood. I sort of like this version of you. Yes. |
| Everett | Another watch that's stupid. Oh, Bell and Ross BRO3 GMT compass. |
| Andrew | Yeah, this isn't dumb. You know. I can't fight for this one. A practical GMT watch for globetrotters with an inbuilt compass for navigation. Is it an actual compass? I hope not. |
| Everett | This one's weird, man. Okay. So what this is is a BR-03, which is the 41 millimeter version of the BR-01, which is 44 and huge. We've got a office GMT. |
| Andrew | The GMT hand functions as a compass with the compass bezel. |
| Everett | There we go. We've got an office GMT here that comes in at 12. Oh, excuse me. This isn't the 41. It's the 42 millimeter case. 100 meters of water resistance. You know what? Actually, Andrew, I don't hate it. I think it looks cool. I think the bezel looks great. The compass is interesting. The handset is bizarre, but good. It's a little hard to see the running seconds because they sort of disappear. Anyway. Yeah. It's a $5,000. Do you want this watch, Andrew? I mean that genuinely. Do you want this watch? No. |
| Andrew | No. I mean, if you gave it to me, I'd be like, oh, thank you. I probably wouldn't ever wear it. I don't like most of Bell & Ross. The Bro 5, I'm down with. The 03 and the 01, they don't work for me. This is a weird... I don't know who's buying this watch. Maybe the problem is that I do know who's buying this watch, and that's the wrinkle. Who's what? Who's buying it? Douchebags. I just feel like for this dollar amount, there are so many things. Unless you're a Bell & Ross fanboy, and I know those people exist, and there's nothing wrong with that. But for $5,000... There are about a thousand other watches I think I would probably buy. |
| Everett | I just don't understand why it's got so many hands. One, two, three, four, five, six hands? Or is it just one? So it's just one, two, three, four. Because the running seconds goes all the way across. As does. |
| Andrew | As does the GMT. Yeah. So the hour and the minute hand are appropriate length, and the second and the GMT are doubled. Yeah. I don't really understand why the full length... Running secondhand? I think it must be for like the instrument aesthetic. That's all I can figure. Perhaps. Because the GMT hand makes sense because they're giving you a reverse look to aid in compass usage, maybe? |
| Everett | Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, elongated double Simon diamond GMT hand with one side finished bright red. A blue colored second hand visually ties the display to the bezel. Small circular date window. |
| Andrew | I don't even notice a date window. Where the fuck is it? |
| Everett | Oh, there it is. Yeah. It's a pass for me, dog. Oh, and then underneath all of that, there's a crosshair. |
| Andrew | Well, just in case. |
| Everett | And a lot of text. |
| Andrew | Yeah, so what you have here is a 24-hour bezel with an internal non-rotating compass bezel. So you've got two bezel layers, a sector-style crosshair through the dial, and then more hands than you really know what to do with. This reminds me of that... Does the compass bezel rotate with the bezel? It cannot. Because if you look at the pictures... The North is always at the 12th. |
| Everett | Yeah, but every picture I've seen, the bezel is also at 12th. Maybe. Right. |
| Unknown | This watch is stupid. |
| Everett | Yeah, I don't get it. Why is everybody releasing stupid watches right now? |
| Andrew | Because they've already released all their cool shit. They're like, hey, we got this one on the back burner. Let's throw this one in. How about some real fucking stupid shit for this week? Yeah, I don't... What's next? |
| Everett | I don't get it. Andrew, can we just... Let's just end this one early. Hey, you guys... I know. |
| Andrew | I want to talk about something. So, Ben Roos. We're joining us for this episode of 40 and 20, the Watch Clicker Podcast. Benruss has brought back the Ultra Deep in a compressor-style case, twin stick, and I'm for it. It's a 36.5 millimeter. You're not going to like this. Stoop. You're not going to like it. It's 13, eight thick 41 lug to lug 200 meters of water resistance. It's not a true super compressor because that technology is kind of antiquated and doesn't make sense. |
| Everett | You guys, I'm out. |
| Andrew | I decided I'm going to, I'm going to be here by myself for the rest of the night. A dome Sapphire crystal, uh, coming in at 1200 bucks. I'm I dig this release. Benris has done some things that I'm like, eh, it's okay. I like this really small super compressor case. Twin stick, black dial. I'm for it. Go ahead and... |
| Everett | Vent. That's very dramatic. You guys didn't even get the benefit of that. It's very dramatic. |
| Andrew | They heard it through mine. That's how loud it was. |
| Everett | Off and on. Hold on. Let me see this shitter. |
| Andrew | He just had to pace around the room and throw a little tantrum. |
| Everett | Let me pull this shit box up. No, I looked at this earlier. I like this watch. |
| Andrew | They do really well releasing their deep catalog watches. This is a recreation of a 60s style diver. And this is it. They hit it. I do think it's too thick. |
| Everett | You're correct that I do hate how thick it is. You kind of have to for that, like to get that case shape. I don't think you have to for the K-shape. What I will say is that a lot of the thickness is tied into the crystal. And so these compressor style watches tend to, especially the ones with the big dome crystals, tend to be a little thicker. |
| Andrew | And look at the angle on these lugs. This is not going to wear that thick. |
| Everett | Well, yeah, maybe. I don't know. I think the proportions are fine, honestly. 13.8 is crazy, but I think the proportions are good. I do really like the bracelet on this. I just think they've done a great job with the case to bracelet integration. The fitment of that in-link looks good. This has some sort of, for me, real sort of zen vibes. We get a lot of zen here. And the price isn't terrible either. $1,200 here, excluding tax, I know what they say. So I don't know what that's going to look like. |
| Andrew | I think I'd like it more without a date window, though. Oh, hey, I don't buy the date window here. I think on a 36 and a half, I can go without the date window. |
| Everett | I really like the handset on this, too. It's a good handset. Sort of like, I don't even know, what are we going to call that? Do we have a name for that? Spade and shovel? Yeah, it's a good handset. And the hand stack is real pretty, too. |
| Unknown | Yeah, you know, Benriss... |
| Everett | Benris, I think, always just releases interesting. They're reliably interesting, reliably not bad. Yeah. I like that consistency. I like this one. I don't even hate it, Andrew. You wanted me to hate it, but I don't. |
| Andrew | You kind of hate everything right now. I just said I don't hate this. |
| Everett | I don't hate this. I like this one. I think I got most of the I hate them ones out of the way. |
| Unknown | Okay. |
| Everett | Let's see. Yeah. Yeah. Seiko released three, four new versions of the alpinist. It says four, but I'm having trouble discerning the fourth. It's the blue one. So they released a teal alpinist, which has a little orange tree. rim on it that is evocative um a black dialed version which is pretty epic and has already existed in is it new i have one and well in a new in a new green alpinist so this black alpinist is different than your |
| Andrew | Yeah. |
| Everett | Yeah. Cause mine's JDM. Yeah. Um, but I believe these are all six are 55. Oh no. The first three are six are 55, uh, which is a 21, six, uh, |
| Andrew | It's a movement upgrade. |
| Everett | Vibrations per hour with 72 hour power reserve plus 25 to minus 15. It's a nice movement. Both the blue and the black or the teal and the black here are gorgeous. The green alpinist, you're going to say, gosh, that looks a lot like an alpinist. And you'd be correct. It looks like the Green Alpinist. It looks like Green Alpinist. We do have some new text at 12 o'clock on all four of these that I like. I think they've done a good job with these. The fourth version is a... Matterhorn Blue SPB531J1 Limited Edition, 2,000 pieces exclusively in Europe with a beautiful sort of vertically brushed blue dial and slight orange accents. I think this is gonna be popular. This has the 6R35 with a 70-hour power reserve. So slightly different movement. I'm not exactly certain why. All four of these are 200 meters of water resistance, as you would expect. We have four o'clock crown to operate your inner rotating bezel. These are very alpinist looking releases. In fact, there's nothing here that's earth shattering. And when I saw these headlines come out this week, I was like, yay. |
| Andrew | Oh. Yeah. They just upgraded the movement. |
| Everett | With that said, I do really like this black on the bracelet. It's sort of a chocolatey, warm, chocolatey black. And I think it's... I think it's Alina. I really like this black. |
| Andrew | I think the Alpinist is probably one of the coolest watches ever produced. Oh, yeah. |
| Everett | I think it's certainly... One of the most iconic Seikos ever produced, which is odd because I think the Alpinist goes back to the 50s, but the current Alpinist is the one that's iconic. |
| Andrew | Yeah. |
| Everett | And that's a relatively new watch. Yeah, it's only like 20 years old. You know, between this and perhaps the SKX, you know, probably Seiko's most iconic modern watches. Perhaps, you know, south of like Grand Seiko or perhaps maybe Marine Master. |
| Unknown | Yeah. |
| Everett | And the Ripley. I think this is great. I like the new colorways. The teal isn't for me. The black is good. I like that Seiko's keeping it standard for the Alpinist. This isn't a 4R 100 meter. |
| Andrew | It'd be really easy for him to roll this into the 5 line. Yeah, that's right. |
| Everett | It'd be really easy. And so I'm glad that for their part, they've sort of maintained a level of class with this watch, with this release. They're treating it with more respect than they did the SKX for sure. Well, and the SKX perhaps didn't have a brand, right? The Alpinist has a mark that they are interested in protecting. |
| Andrew | Yeah. Well, and they keep it in the Pro Specs line and... Is this... Yeah, this is Pro... Yeah, it's still in the Pro Specs line. Like I said, the teal is not for me. The blue is good. It kind of looks like a pair of jeans after you washed them the first time. They're not quite fully broken in yet, but they're there. All right, next up for me. Oh, the Yema Navy Graph Pearl CMM.20. has done a release with a really, really lovely Mother of Pearl dial and bezel insert combination. And I am all about it. This is not a watch that I would ever buy, but gosh, I just want to look at it. I don't know if I've ever seen a Mother of Pearl bezel insert before. I have to assume that I have, but the complementing Mother of Pearl insert and dial is terrific. You're nodding and I'm looking at you as if you... Like, I'm ready for you to just start shitting. You want me to add something? |
| Everett | No, I think we've kind of gotten to the point where I am starting to think Yema can do no wrong. Yeah, I have nothing bad to say. This is a great watch, and I'm with you, man. This mop bezel on dial is weird in a way that I really, really like. |
| Andrew | And it's... It looks good on the bracelet, but on this black strap, it makes the mother of pearl pop in a way that you kind of lose with the bracelet. |
| Everett | And this is a watch that has a big bubble dome crystal that, when counted, gets you to just a touch over 11 millimeters. And when you don't count it, this is a 9.5 millimeter watch. With 200 meters of water resistance. Yeah. Yeah. Terrific finishing. Yeah, I mean, I'm not exaggerating when I say I'm like... Yem is one of the very few brands that I just... Every time they release something, I'm like, that's good and it makes sense. Hit it. Yep. That's good and it makes sense. Because this watch... This watch, $2,500. Yeah. With a super dope in-house movement. |
| Andrew | A tungsten micro rotor. They're doing something really special. |
| Everett | Tungsten micro rotor. |
| Andrew | Yeah. |
| Everett | Mop. Bezel. Mop dial. Crazy cool. Yeah, no, I mean, I... This is the opposite of shitting on this, Andrew. |
| Andrew | Yeah, I was expecting the opposite of your response. I don't know why. That's why I went with Yemma. I was like, let's see him shit on Yemma. Good luck. |
| Everett | You've let me down. I'm a fanboy, man. At this point, I'm a fan. I mean, I'm a fanboy. I really... You know, what they released a couple weeks ago we talked about. Oh, they're like $1,000 watches. |
| Andrew | Yeah, they put $1,000 Salida watches. Salida movements in, yeah. Like, fucking A, Yama. Like, let's stratify this a little bit. You did it. Those are rad. |
| Everett | Yeah. Yeah, no, I'm for it. Fanboy. You can call me a Yama fanboy. I'll have to come up with a name for that. So this is the watch. On the boys. This next one is the watch. Did I identify this watch when we talked about me almost buying a watch? |
| Andrew | Yeah. |
| Everett | Okay. So the new titanium Jacques Bianchi JB300 Profonde x Deepsea.EDC. Okay. Man, I think this watch is so cool, Andrew. So this is built on... Well, first, let's talk about deep CEDC. This guy's like... So Brock Stevens is his name. He's a U.S. Navy diver. Active duty U.S. Navy diver. Or former active duty U.S. Navy diver, Andrew? I do not know. Anyway. He's like 6'4 and carved out of granite. Handsome fellow standing at the table. No homo. A little. Maybe. It was just like mild. A little. He's like... And then you start talking to him and he's like smart and he's talking about this watch. You look at the watch and you're like, fuck, that's a really cool watch. I really like this watch. I really like this watch. It is built... So... Brock Stevens has built sort of an online EDC personality, Deep Sea EDC, which is his Instagram page and brand, EDC brand. He worked with Junk Bianchi on this based on his professional or U.S. Navy dive experience. The JB300 Profonde is... based on the standard JB300 case, although I think we get a slightly smaller version here, 41.5 versus 42, which is to say it's a good-sized dive watch. The JB300 case is a really interesting case. The article I read about this on Monochrome said it's sort of a... Mon in by sort of tag Hoyer case. And I think that sort of hits the nail on the head. You've got a bit of that flat Hoyer vibe with a bit of like that Mon in sort of. Yeah. A little bit love child. Yeah, that that's right. And I think that's such a great, I was like, Oh yeah, they kind of nailed it. It's an H case sort of dive case, which near and dear to my heart, obviously. I was talking to someone this week about this watch because my take on this thing was that it was just a tiny bit too expensive for me. When I picked it up, I thought this is a $1,000 watch. This thing comes in actually at $1,395, or excuse me, $1,295. Nope, $1,350. $1,350. Which is fair, right? This is a... Nothing about that price is wrong. Stonewashed, terrific titanium watch with a great movement. Which is, by the way, I don't know if I said it, it's the Soprod PO24, which is, I think, a 2824 clone. Thoughtfully designed. That's right. And sort of built to just be badass, right? It's a Destro... Left-hand drive watch. It's going to be worn on a strap. It doesn't even have a bracelet. The other comment that I got on this watch, which... I kind of wish it had fixed bars. Yeah. I don't know why that would make it better for me. The other comment that I got on this watch was that because of the way it's finished, so it's a full 360-degree stonewashed finish. It's a tumbled finish on this titanium, which works really well for the watch. But it also sort of... it gives it a little bit of like a unrefined look to it. It's not unrefined, but that 360 degree stonewash does give it a bit of, um, It doesn't look unrefined. It just looks a little like unfinished. |
| Andrew | It looks unfinished. It looks like it bears the scars and marks that you didn't earn. |
| Everett | I didn't dislike that. But the other person I was talking to, I'm not going to identify, felt that way. And I was like, you know what? I can see that too. I really... But it's such an intentional design choice that I don't know that you can take umbrage with it. I really loved this watch when I picked it up. Just this huge, chunky bezel, 60 clicks. Everything feels good. I really, really love this watch. The yellow is an homage to the yellow Navy diver dive hats. The Cam 37 helmets. Yeah. You know, it's terrific. I just wanted it to be a little less expensive. That's all. And so I think, you know, dig deep or maybe I'll wait for it to come on secondary. For me, 1350 was a step too far. 1,100 maybe. I'm okay with it. |
| Unknown | I don't know why. It's just a feeling. It's just a feeling. |
| Andrew | How would you feel about 1,250? Would that have taken the breath from your sales? I still don't think I would have. I think for me, 1,100 would be like... I think that's pushing it. |
| Everett | Top of the line. These are going to go fast. They're only making 100 of them. I can't justify that comment, so don't ask me to. But that is my cut. 150 of them. Really loved this watch. |
| Andrew | Yeah, that's a killer watch. I think part of it, you're paying for the story, right? You're paying for the collaboration. Every collaboration we see is more expensive than the base model. Yeah, that's maybe right. |
| Everett | The profits have got to be shared. Yeah, it seems like something that's written on the side of a wall somewhere. |
| Unknown | Maybe. I don't know. |
| Andrew | I haven't seen all the walls. The profits have got to be shared. I really don't care about anything else that I have listed. |
| Everett | Whoa. That's weird, Andrew. You know, the only other thing I think I'd like to talk about is the 38 millimeter wire lug Nomos Metro. |
| Andrew | Okay. You can talk about it. |
| Everett | Because Metro 38 date. Nomos, as always, just releasing good shit. They just released a bunch of new Tetras. And now a new version of the Metro, which is kind of an oddity, I think, for Nomos. |
| Andrew | It looks like every other Nomos. |
| Everett | Well, I think that that's right. The dial is very much Nomos language, but the wire lugs are sort of anti-Nomos. A little bit. Even though this is one of the OG, I believe this is one of the OG releases, wire lugs on a Nomos are just kind of weird. Anyway, this is... This is a brand new movement in this watch. It's the DUW4601 caliber, Nomos caliber. They put this in the new Tangente to date. And then we've got a six o'clock date window or six o'clock window date on this thing. And then another date. on the perimeter at least on the two date um this one only has the one single date at six o'clock uh but it does allow quick change date on on these so um and it's a 38 millimeter It's a 38-millimeter Metro, and it looks great. Wire lug's kind of weird. Wire lug's kind of weird on a Nomos. It sort of takes away from some of that long-leggedness that we know Nomos for. |
| Andrew | Yeah. Now they're just chicken legs. |
| Everett | They're not cheap. $3,830 on these things. So they're not... Exactly cheap, but for a Nomos, I think that that's... It's in the zone. Especially given the new movement. Unproven movement. 7'8 thick. Yeah. The lug shape, the end of these wire lugs is below the case back. |
| Andrew | I think it could be a really odd wearing watch depending on your anatomy. Not your analogy, your anatomy. |
| Everett | White, silver, white galvanized silver plated dial on this thing. |
| Andrew | It's like every other Nomos. I've literally never gotten excited by a Nomos ever. I'm glad you like them. I do like them. Yeah. I know you do. I do like them. No, I know you fuck with Nomos. Nothing about it does anything for me. I know. It's like you're showing me nudes of yourself. Oh, neat. You're naked. Thank you. Oh, cool. Another one. Dog. That one really was a No, they just... Nomos just doesn't... It doesn't scratch any itches for me. And I'm glad that you like them. |
| Everett | See if there's anything else on your stupid list that we've got to talk about. |
| Andrew | No. Nope. |
| Everett | Nope. Kickstarter? Get the fuck out of here. |
| Andrew | I thought it was kind of interesting and then I lost interest pretty quick. Get the fuck out of here. Okay. |
| Everett | Andrew, other things. |
| Andrew | What you got? Mmm. Mmm. I'm a little bit late to the party on this. So I watched a new show over the last couple weeks called The Diplomat. I thought you were going to say Charles in Charge. Yeah. Y'all heard of King of the Hill? So I watched this new show. It's got... Three seasons available on Netflix. And the new season just dropped, which is why it was a tile that was like top shows or whatever. I'd never seen or heard of the show. But Keri Russell was on the title. And if she's in it, I'm watching. Smoke show. Yeah, if she's in it, I'm watching. I love the Americans. I love Keri Russell. And I started the show and it got me from episode one. I could not stop. So the whole premise of the show is Kerry Russell's character is this career State Department diplomat type person who. by no fault or choice of her own, gets wrapped up into kind of the sphere of global leader power and is, you know, as a professional diplomat, you're obviously there, but then like becomes inner circle. And it's the whole story of her kind of un-revealing a pretty significant conspiracy and everything that goes along with it. Everyone works for their roles. It's actors that you recognize, but you don't see them as anyone else other than the person that they are currently playing. The writing's really good. I pride myself on very early on in a thriller. being able to put my finger on the whodunit and call it. And then I watch with the rest of the whatever I'm watching, like actually more excited about whether or not I was right than necessarily the story. The twists and turns you don't see coming. Some of them are pretty, like you see them coming, but generally they unroll them in a really good way. It shows a really interesting... like human side of, of that kind of, uh, diplomatic world. Uh, and I, I, I burned through it. I could not stop. And you get to see Kerry Russell's butt. |
| Everett | Sick. Uh, I think diplomat, ouch, work, What'd you hit? |
| Andrew | The very corner with the soft part of your forearm. |
| Everett | I think diplomat world is sort of like the jag world where it seems like it'd be really sexy and I bet by and large it's just the most boring fucking shit ever. |
| Andrew | I have a friend who works in a consulate and he's not... He's not unhappy because nothing happens, but he's certainly not thrilled. Andrew, I'm sorry for my other thing this week. |
| Everett | If you fart and tell me that that's your other thing, you're not invited back. No, this is not intended to make you feel bad. I mean that genuinely. I reordered a hair product this week. |
| Andrew | You know, I just watched a Simpsons episode where Homer defrauded his company to get a hair product and his whole life got better and then he went bald again. And the whole episode I'm watching with my 10-year-old and my wife who are like crickets. Not saying a word. They're not laughing at jokes. They're just totally silent. And I'm laughing at, like, clearly, like, jokes that should be laughed at. And they're just, like, meekly sitting in the corner. Oh, man. I'm, like, too real, Dad. Anyhow, so you ordered a new hair product. No, no, I reordered a hair product, which is to say... You exhausted it all on your luxurious long locks. Oh, I need more. |
| Everett | It is to say that. So the product, I'll just, I won't bury the lead here. The product is called O'Douds Matte Paste. O-apostrophe-D-O-U-D-S Matte Paste. It used to be that this product was hard to find. You had to like specialty order it. And now you can get it on Amazon, which I went to go look for it and found it on Amazon. And I was like, oh, great, which is nice, right? Because you don't have to pay $6.95 shipping. That's part of the reason why that's nice. And I do think this is just the product, the price has gone down a little bit. |
| Andrew | But what I'll just tell you, this, you know, I... I'm not trying to... The website's like forcing me into a subscription order of this product. You're fucking buying it. I need you not. |
| Everett | You're fucking buying it, buddy. Yeah, I'll just tell you, it's great, Andrew. So this is, it's a matte paste. But what I found is that oftentimes, like especially things you buy at the store, like... Target or wherever you buy these things, they're just not good. This product is terrific. It wears well throughout the day. It doesn't get like clumpy and shitty. It's just like with no exaggeration, it is the best hair product I've ever used in my life. |
| Andrew | You know how I, without ever having opportunity to wear it or use it, nor will I ever, you know why I will second your position? |
| Everett | Because my hair looks great? |
| Andrew | No. No, that's not it. On the O'Dowd's website, it's got tips and tricks, ingredients, return it. One of the drop-down menus, like when you're looking at your spec sheet, is scent description. Okay. That's a meaningful thing for a product. And they've got a scent description on it. What's the scent description? Sweet, soft, and sappy notes of... Labdanum? Balance the bright citrusy notes of lime to produce an alluring scent so inviting you might be tempted to drink it. Don't! Crafted exclusively using therapeutic grade essential oils, absolutes, and plant extracts. No synthetic fragrances ever. But they have a scent description. I don't care if it's Grand Seiko storytelling. A scent description is meaningful that shows that they kind of give a shit. |
| Everett | I do think it's the type of product that... Carries weight in like the salon community. I think I heard about this from someone who does hair. From the girl next to you getting her blowout? Maybe, yes. No, and it is pretty, it's a masculine product too, right? So that's nice too. You get a hair product and it's not like frou-frou or whatever. |
| Andrew | You know what's masculine? When you can't even grow hair. When you're so virile that it just blows out of your head. It's kind of expensive. |
| Everett | I had a little jar of this and it lasted me like... A long time. Eight months maybe. Because you just use a little bit. You use like literal pea amount. Pea sized. It's like I pee a lot. His eyebrows went up. He got excited. |
| Andrew | 3.4 ounces or 97 grams for the one-time purchase of 25 money from the website. But if you subscribe and save, it's $22.50. |
| Everett | If you've got anything more than about a quarter inch of hair, I'm going to recommend this product to you. It's really good. It's not a firm hold, right? So if you want something really gluey, it's a pretty soft product. |
| Andrew | It lends itself very well to the I just rolled out of bed look, but you look kempt at the same time. |
| Everett | Yeah, this is my all day going to court or not product. So, yeah. piece of that. Andrew, anything you want to add?
