Speaker
Andrew Hello, fellow watch lovers, nerds, enthusiasts, or however you identify. You're listening to 40 in 20, the Watch Clicker podcast with your hosts, Andrew and my good friend Everett. Here, we talk about watches, food, drinks, life, and other things we like. Everett, how are you? Unmute. Unmuted? No, I'm doing great, man. I'm doing great. I'm excited about this beer. I'm excited to talk about watches. I'm excited for America. Because fuck keto.
Unknown Yeah.
Andrew And America. No, don't fuck America, but also and just America in general. My house is still Americanly, America lit. I have the smart bulbs on all my floodlights in the front of the house and they're alternating red and blue. And then my spotlights into the front of the house are white. I should probably change them tomorrow. Andrew, how are you? I'm good. I'm on vacation this week. So this is an evening recording session for those of you who care or keep track or whatever. But yeah, took the week off. We were kind of thinking about going camping and then it just didn't line up. Which is fine because there's a bucket load of stuff to do at the house, as there always is. So I get to spend... my vacation cleaning out the garage and doing yard work and all that other fun stuff. You know, uh, I'm not sure if I talked about this last week, but Kim and I did U-Haul loads from the garage and it's just such a satisfying, such a satisfying feeling, uh, going out to the garage and it's just, Oh, that stuff isn't there. It's like, like room, uh, Sam did a good will run yesterday and that just in and of itself, I was like, whew, look at all this space. I don't have to do this weird like tango through the garage to get from the inside door to the ped door to put trash in the bin. Yeah. Yeah. It's nice. It is really nice to. Free yourself of those cuffs, the things that are just sort of hanging out because you haven't found the opportunity to get rid of them yet. I haven't made the opportunity. Yeah. Yeah, that's right.
Everett No, that's a good way to put it.
Andrew You don't find time, you make time. That's a good way to put it. I used to say that to people and now I find myself being like, I haven't found time. No. I haven't made time. You know, there's a fine line between, like, being hard on yourself and making excuses. You know, I think my wife and I will, like, play different roles at times. But it's like, well, you do have enough time. You do have enough time. You just are prioritizing the wrong thing or, like, you know, that's more of the aggressive or, like... Well, go easy on yourself. We're busy. My wife and I have the same thing. And somebody a couple years ago posed this question. And they said, do you work to rest or rest to work?
Unknown Mm-hmm.
Andrew And I was like, oh, I work to rest. Like I get it all done. Like I can't have a rot day on the couch when there are things undone. Oh, yeah. But I do the things and I'll like burn the candle at both ends and then set a little fire in the middle. to be able to have time to not.
Everett I like that.
Andrew I've heard the phrase work to live or the work to live versus live to work, but work to rest, it puts a little bit different spin on it, more personal spin, right? And Sam is very much the opposite. She's like, oh, I need to rest today so that I can work tomorrow. Yeah, that's funny. And that nailed it. I was like, oh, there's a... there's a definition of conflict and now it's like, now that it's been defined, it's like, okay, now we can address it. But that's so much about like conflict in a marriage is like defining it, like figuring out actually what the conflict is because it's definitely not that pair of socks on the floor. Yeah. But yeah, no, I'm, I'm very much a work to rest type of person. So I don't know how we got there. I don't know either, but I think it's a great time for us to... Talk about watches? Talk about watches. You know, this was an interesting week. This was a week where I was like... It felt like every day I'm looking at stuff and I'm like, this doesn't really get me excited. This doesn't really get me excited. And then... It kind of like pivoted a little bit. Some stuff like grabbed me. Yeah. But in... I don't know. I feel like there were really a lot of releases, a lot of potential releases, right? A lot of things to sort of capture our attention. And I'll say, I'm going to caveat this episode with very little that I saw actually got me excited this week. Oh, interesting. There's some stuff that I'm like, oh, that's interesting. Oh, that's neat. But very little. Very little actually got me. Well, I think I'm going to start then. Because there were some things that got me. And the first one, I'm going to start with a softball. Yeah, you will. The Hamilton khaki field mechanical Zermatt exclusive edition with a Matterhorn engraving. So I am the owner of a 38 millimeter khaki mechanical, which is... the most underrated watch in the face of the earth almost impossibly so because it is a very highly rated watch and yet underrated i think so i am an owner of the previous dial of this watch i actually at one point owned both the current dial and the prior dial version Wound up selling the new dial because I really liked the font on the prior dial. And I just, every time I put it on, you know, for whatever I spent on that watch, and I want to say it was like 400 bucks, Andrew. It was not much. It was. Because it's still currently not much. It was peanuts. Even brand new in box. Yeah, that's right. And, you know, these watches are a little bit more than that now. But, I mean, just a fantastic case. Impeccable proportions. Super thin. Sub 10 millimeters. Legibility for days and weeks and months even. And, you know, they're like brand new. 600 francs, which is like 750 US dollars. Did you use yours on a bracelet or a strap? I got mine on a strap. And they do make a bracelet for these, but I think the bracelets are kind of weird. Amazon, $625 for the khaki field mechanical 38. On a strap? On a strap. And I don't know anything about the strap. I've never seen the OG strap that it came with. Yeah, they're fine. I imagine they're fine. You're just going to wear it. You're going to wear it on a NATO. Anyway, they've gotten a little weird with these recently. So last year they came out with like the denim blue and a white dial.
Unknown And then just this week they've announced it's not limited as far as I know. It is... However, it is only available in Zermatt.
Andrew They released an ice... What are we going to call this, Andrew? Like a glacier blue... It looks like Mother of Pearl. Dial... It's not Mother of Pearl. It's not Mother of Pearl, but it has that same kind of... Like... You know what it looks to me like? It looks to me like ice skating rink. Pre-Zamboni? Right before they bring the Zamboni out. That's what it looks to me like. I was just talking to somebody at work. I was like, man... Everyone loves a Zamboni driver. That's who I want to be. I want to be the Zamboni driver. People cheer him when he comes out. It does. But like, yeah, pre-Zamboni skating rink, I kind of went Mother of Pearl. There's not like the reds. There's not the natural colors of it. But there is the natural colors of Mother of Pearl. but there is the very organic kind of inconsistent color saturation through the dial. So these come on a couple of different, you, these come on to pass through straps, a Navy and then a blue and white striped. It's that Hamilton pass through strap. That's got the sort of leather, leather details. Um, and that's like damn near black Navy age 50 movement, which is a Powermatic 80. Um, And I just think it's terrific. You got to go to Zermatt to get it. Or I guess perhaps buy one online. Yeah, secondary market. Secondary market. But great blue hands or maybe black hands. It's terrific. I think they're black. It's beautiful. Because they color match the markers. It is really lovely. I think it's a good addition to this line. I think the khaki mechanical has a lot of potential in it that's not being tapped. I love this. Impossibly, I think, the most underrated. When you said this is the most underrated and highly rated watch all at once, I sat back and I was like, I don't... I want to disagree. I can tell you want to disagree. I want to. I want to pick a fight right now. You couldn't quite get there. I don't have... I don't have a fight. It's tough, right? Because we know. I don't have a contender for it. We know that it's really widely appreciated and yet doesn't make too many top 10 lists.
Unknown You know, like it's just sort of out there.
Andrew It doesn't even make our top 10 list because it only has 50 meters of water resistance. And that's right. And it gets full X factor points. But you put that fucking thing on and it's like, oh yeah, why don't I wear this more? The size on it, Andrew. The dimensions on it are perfect. It's one of the most comfortably wearing watches. It feels a little bit bigger than a 38, but it wears as a 38. It feels a little bigger than a 48. I would say it wears... For me, like a 39 or 40. I think 38. It's got that long lug length. But it's super comfortable. It's really fantastic. Yeah. Underrated. Impossibly so, I would say. What's next? I want to talk about something silly. Since you're talking about something boring. Something blue, something old, something new? Yeah. I'm trying to organize my links. I'm apologizing. The final edition in Derrick & Co. 's Miffy Moon Phase collection comes in white ceramic. So this is, what number is this? Three? Yeah, it's the third one. It's the third one, yeah. This is a 38 millimeter, 11 and a 3 thick ceramic case. with a white lacquer dial, Salida movement, super ridiculous moon phase watch. And this is the third one and they've all been silly. They've all been fun. Uh, And I saw it, and I immediately hated it and loved it.
Everett Oh, yeah.
Andrew Right? Because it's a Snoopy watch, effectively. Right? It's not a Snoopy watch. But it is effectively an Omega Snoopy release that's coming in at $4,000. Just to be fun. And I dig that. A full ceramic case. A 130 crown. Just fun. And I love that it exists.
Unknown And I kind of am glad that they're done. Yeah, well, this one's weird.
Andrew So... So sorry, Andrew, not to hijack here. So Miffy is this Dutch cartoon character, very much like Snoopy, who inspired a three-part series of watch releases with Derekin Co., Three years ago? What year? Yeah, 2022. And it's just bringing the Dutch Snoopy onto moon phase dials. And they've all been fun. Wait, wait, wait, wait. But this has got like a... So it's A, it's white ceramic. Which is cool as shit. B, it's a modular construction with a ceramic outer, what they're calling a lug case that sits on top of a ceramic inner case with a rotating construction where the inner case rotates inside of the outer case via a ball bearing and spring mechanism. Yeah, you got to look at this exploded view. Because they did the thing that we've been asking for brands to do. And they do an exploded view. Yeah, this is what we wanted Christopher Ward to do. And... I don't really understand what's happening. Yeah, I don't either. So it's got some sort of... I think Derike has used this construction in a different watch. And the crown actually, like, screws against the case, but you can, like, move it. I don't know, man. These are weird, dude. And cool. I don't really get them. Good thing there's only 100 of them. You won't get one. Yeah, and they're not cheap. It's like $3,500. But here's the thing. They're gorgeous. We have this lacquered dial cartoon bunny on the moon phase. It's absolutely gorgeous. Interesting. So the handset... You're gonna bitch about it again. And last time I said this, you recanted kind of like a Ming, not handset, but the markers are kind of Ming-ish, like this postmodern. Current edition of postmodern design. It's really, really gorgeous. No, I see it. I see it here. I see a little bit of, I mean, that works for me here on the handset. Yeah, I can see what you're talking about. Yeah, it is stunning. And a watch that I would never care to wear or own. I don't know how you even rotate the dial inside of it. It's got like a... It's got something to do with the crown. Well, so the crown has like this indent and you can... It's got like a... The word I'm looking for.
Everett A slot.
Andrew A channel. Yeah, yeah. In the side of the case to be able to rotate it. I don't know the functionality there or why. that you can rotate the whole dial with the crown screwed down inside the case besides it being cool. Like it kind of strikes me as like a driving watch where if you're speeding around the Grand Prix, you can manipulate your dial so you don't have to move your hand. It does feel a little bit like that, yeah. But you're still having to take one hand off to move it. I don't know. It's a cool technology that just – Neat. I don't really get why. Yeah. No, it's cool. It's interesting. It's fucking gorgeous. It's probably not for me. It's a weird watch. If you're interested in any of the things we're saying, take a look.
Everett It's definitely not for me.
Andrew Maybe take a look even if you're not interested because we may have talked about it wrong. Marathon, Andrew? Have you heard of Marathon? Oh, I am familiar. So Marathon is... A 26.2 mile race. Marathon is a Canadian company that makes watches in Switzerland and sells them almost exclusively to the United States government. And watch nerds. And watch nerds. Yeah, that's right. That's right. That's 100% of Marathon's customers. Well, Marathon, for the Canadian birthday on July 1st, released a uncharacteristically patriotic all-Canada watch that they're calling the Adanac Stainless Steel Navigator Pilots Automatic. Adanac is Canada backwards, which I think is fun.
Unknown I don't know why they did that. Well done, Marathon. And this watch is like...
Andrew Red and awesome. It's sort of white with a red bezel. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But it's really punchy and it's really like, fuck you, Canada. I don't mean, I don't mean fuck, fuck Canada. I mean like, fuck you, go Canada. Fuck you, Canada. Yeah, that's right. Um, and I just think it's awesome. It's got this sort of type two case with asymmetric, uh, Case that I love, that I love, as anybody who's been listening to the show for any amount of time knows, I love an asymmetric H case. And that's what this is. And it's just terrific. Big, bold, bright, red maple leaf at 12 tritium tubes. We've got a SW-201 movement. Yeah, I just want it. I want it. I love it. I like the maple leaf. It's super bright, right? Yeah, the color contrast on this is fantastic. They have just an icy glacier white and applied maple leaf. It's applied, yeah, so you can really see the dimension there. Printed on nuclear... warning for the trit tubes i just love it it's 500 500 pieces 1280 retail price it's a 41 millimeter but that includes the asymmetric side 20 millimeter lugs. An engraved maple leaf into the crown. Yeah. This is maybe the most fun that Marathon has ever had with a watch. Yeah. Not maybe. It definitely is the most fun that Marathon has ever had with a watch. Because previously they were like... Hey guys. Yeah, that's right. And... This is not that. Anyway, it's really cool, man. I mean, it's just a Navigator, but I saw this and I was like, shit, I want that. I want that. I think I don't want... I do want a Navigator. I think I want a couple iterations of the Navigator. I really want the tan one. Yeah. That's on the list. The resin case. Yeah. Okay, so next up for me is a brand that... I don't remember the last time, if ever, we talked about Vario watches. And I know I'm pretty confident that we have. I know we've talked about Vario watch straps because they do make a leather strap for the world timer. Like, you know. And it fits perfectly and I love it. And I wear the world timer on a leather strap, which is ridiculous. But they are celebrating the 60th anniversary of Singapore's independence with the SG60 Merlion Trench Watch. Merlion? Merlion?
Everett I don't know. I'm not sure. It's a word I don't know.
Andrew And it is... really well done so we have a 430 crown like a nice big gnarly trench watchy crown wired lugs beautiful burgundy dial on this with a lion head at the 12 o'clock small seconds very early early trench watch inspired It's on a bunt strap. That sucks. But the rest is pretty good. So 100 meters of water resistance, 37 millimeter case, which is just absolutely perfect to kind of modernize that early inspired wired lug trench watch feel. But bring it into our era. Double dome sapphire. Here's what's exciting. Hey, Andrew. Yeah. The merlion is the official mascot of Singapore. It's depicted as a mythical creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. Carry on. I feel like you don't know what to do with that information. I don't. I don't. 18 millimeter fixed wire lugs. A Miyota 8S. What do I feel like that's... Or 82S5 automatic movement. What do I feel like that's changed your review of the watch? I just... It didn't at all. I'm still excited about it. Here's where I got bummed out, though. They're only making 60 of them. Mm-hmm. And they're $470. So these are just like gone, done. You'll never see them. Super affordable. Really cool Vario.
Everett And a red enamel dial.
Andrew Yeah, right? Like this is, the handset on this is just perfect. It's this beautiful spade hour hand and kind of like a sword syringe minute hand. Great small seconds. They did the thing that I don't like in that they use small seconds to cut into the 6 o'clock marker. That's kind of butt. It's G o'clock. It's G o'clock, yeah. So, you know, do with that what you will. But it is, this is killer. This is like, yeah, this is money. Yeah, really cool watch. It is sad that there's only 60 of them. I don't really understand why only six. I don't either, because Vario does a pretty large-scale production of stuff. I mean, obviously, 60 years of Singaporean independence, but... No, that is unacceptable. Make more than 60. How many days are in 60 years? I don't know. That's a better number. It's more, though. That's maybe excessive. I didn't even account for a leap years. Yeah, fair enough. 22,000 or so. Something like that, yeah. Batavi? Okay. Okay. I'm pretty confident we've never talked about this brand. That's not true. So we've talked about the architect. In fact, I did a review of the Batavi architect for the website maybe four years ago. Cool brand. Dutch brand. They make watches. They released a new watch this week that they're calling the Marina Chronograph Collection.
Unknown And I saw these and I thought, you know what? God damn it.
Andrew I really like this watch. So this is an ST-1901 in a 38-millimeter case with 13.5-millimeter thickness. So mechanical chronograph, Segal movement. In a pretty straightforward case, it's got a terrific-looking bracelet. An H-link bracelet is what I'm going to call this.
Unknown Ah! No, it's a flat three link.
Andrew That's what I meant to say. Flat link, not H-link bracelet. I'm sorry. Yeah, a flat three link. I just misspoke.
Unknown In a bi-compact format, and you're like, okay, okay, get to the good stuff. It has got a transparent layer...
Andrew sandwich dial with numerals sitting on top of the transparent layer over color. So you get that weird shadow play. Almost like your unique glasses. Similar to that studio underdog. Anyway, I think these look terrific, Andrew. Yeah, these are money. It's compact. It's a good size. We've got great colorways. There is a Arabic... numeral version and by arabic numerals i mean they're actually arabic language numerals version that is like a cotton candy blue to pink gradient that is fantastic there's like a cream and brown version there's this black with like Easter purple and pink and green. All of these are wild. The white with turquoise is what's scratching my itch. Boring. You're boring and it's boring. I am. But I agree. It's really cool.
Unknown And they're like 700 euro for these things on a bracelet?
Andrew Less than that right now. 650 during the introduction period, yeah. Yeah, they are $599 at launch, $649, and then they'll migrate to $699 over time, which is unclear what over time means. And they're terrific. I mean, these are just absolutely gorgeous. And you know they're going to be available, right? Because a brand using Seagull Movements right now is buying them en masse. because they don't have the studio underdog, explicit deal. Explicit, not exclusive deal. Yeah. Could be explicit. I don't know. Yeah, this white with turquoise. It tool-less micro-adjust on the bracelet. You know, I wonder... It's interesting, Andrew. It didn't occur to me until you said that right now, but I wonder if... They're working with Richard. Because looking at these dials and then the ST-1901. They have an underdog feel, right?
Everett These very much do have an underdog feel.
Andrew I don't know any connection. But I wouldn't be shocked to understand that these were made with Studio Andrea. We're not gossiping. We're not spreading rumors. We don't know. We don't know. We're just saying we wouldn't be shocked if we learned that. We're just waxing poetic right now. From somebody else that told us that because they knew. We don't know. The way you're saying that suggests that we know something. We actually don't know anything. No. This is just us like spitballing like, oh, that's an interesting commonality. You're like, we don't know. I promise we actually don't know. No, we don't. But there is an interesting similarity happening here with that depth and almost like obstruction of view that comes with the transparency of these dials. You know, Andrew, the last podcast I recorded before this one, I recorded with a former Supreme Court justice of the Oregon Supreme Court. And I thought, it's going to be really disappointing to go record with Andrew. But it's not. I found that it's not. Yeah, because I'm obviously far more interesting. What's next? I mean, not a Supreme Court justice. You're not. My wife just texted me. Why were you pounding? Because she's in the garage on the treadmill right now, right beneath me. She's like, what the fuck is going on up there? Like, it's fine. Don't worry about us. Sertina. Sertina is a brand that I feel like we don't give enough love to. Like, just generally speaking. There is a new DSXGMT. It comes in one bummer colorway and one money colorway. Hmm. Yes. You like the gray, you don't like the white? Wrong. Oh, interesting. But, okay, so the gray comes with this, like, kind of, it's more silver than gray, I think, with a black over green bezel. Or black over red. Or black over red, and I think people can get down with it, but this icy white with the font of Sertina in this really great periwinkle blue, a red GMT, blue over red on the bezel insert, that does it for me. So this is... There are many options, but it's a 41 millimeter GMT, which I'm totally good with, right? That's a good, legible tool watch GMT size, 1215 thick, 200 meters of water resistance, sapphire crystal. And here's kind of where I got bummed out. Quartz at a movement. It's the F06.865. I get why a brand like Sertina is using quartz for a GMT. And then I got excited again. $560. On a bracelet. And this bracelet looks perfectly acceptable. It's also a flat three link. And it looks like butt. The bracelet looks like butt. It's perfectly acceptable for a $560 watch. Except butt butt. Quick release on the end links. Micro adjust. I mean, it does look like butt, but it looks perfectly acceptable butt. I agree. It's that butt that you're like, okay, I'm good with that. I'm not excited about it. I'm not arguing with you. But I'm like, butts are butts. And most butts are good butts, right? Good colorway options on this. And it's, you know, it's Sertina. It's a brand we're familiar with. It's a Quartz GMT. And it's good. It's not great. It's not great. It's good, right? It's like going to Arby's and getting the beef and cheddar classic, right? Like, it's just, it's good. You want more out of it. You're not going to get more out of it. You still enjoy it. The dual bezel is interesting. To make half of it a calendar, I think, is weird. Or a compass is weird. Yeah, this is a weird watch. It's maybe trying to do too much to be a tool watch, right? Because you have your compass on the frame of your bezel, and then you have your bezel insert for your 24-hour scale. I wasn't sure if that was a sneeze or a yawn. It was like a really interesting buildup. You muted yourself, but I'm going to call you out on it. I like these. I think they're a fun tool watch release. This isn't a watch that I'm going to buy, but I think it's a really fun tool watch release. You know, the bezels can be turned independently of one another. That's an interesting function. Yeah, so the compass ring has a friction fit, meaning it can be turned independently of the aluminum GMT bezel, which can be turned with a click after pressing the compass bezel down. That's cool technology. Yeah, so, yeah. Okay. I mean, whatever. I still don't like it, but that's interesting. Oh, they live inside each other. Yeah. Yeah, they stack, so you press the compass bezel down and you can click the... You, like, disengage from the teeth of the 24-hour bezel. That's actually cool as shit. Yeah, it's interesting. No, that's more than interesting. That's cool as shit. You seen that before? No, never. For $560, no less? Yeah. Watch Tudor drop that shit. I actually was surprised by the price on that. The price is good. The price on that is good. It's a quartz GMT with a shitty silver dial option. But that white is good. I actually am not in love with the white version, but we're all snowflakes. Hanhart. Oh. We've talked about Hanhart 415 watches two or three times in the last year. This will be... This will be... a new watch, even though it, I had to like check to make sure that we hadn't talked about this watch before. Uh, I was like, I don't think I have, I don't think I've seen this before, but Hanhart is, Hanhart is just doing things, man. I think really for me, starting with the release of the Preventor last year, I was like, you know, Hanhart is playing. They're playing ball. They're playing ball. So they released this week the 415 ES Panda and Reverse Panda, which are 60s style racing chronographs. Think Breitling or Tag Heuer. But they really... done retro chronograph in a way that i like so we've got 39 millimeters with a short lug 46 long case 13 and a half it's a chronograph okay but that includes a really big ass domed crystal And then we've got 100 meters of water resistance. And then we get to the dial and it's like, oh, dear Lord, leave some fonts for everybody else. Because they used all of the good fonts. All of them.
Everett They really did.
Andrew I'm worried about the industry. Because there are no good fonts left after this. The logo of the Hanhart. is money. This six is like, Yeah, well, these are these prototypical Hanhart die or numerals. The same ones that we see on the Preventor are sort of those Murph-style Gothic markers that really Hanhart is more responsible for than anybody. We've got a terrific-looking oyster bracelet, oyster-ish bracelet with a tool-less micro-adjust and a female end link. uh not a butt bracelet rather a fantastic looking bracelet um we've got the sw510m manual mind movement It looks big on this model's wrist. But it's not.
Everett It's 39.
Andrew Yeah, 39 by 20. I could do without the stamped logo on the clasp, but I accept. Well, but look at the logo, though. This is the Hanhart Racing logo, which is old and from the 60s. I mean, come on. This watch is... That logo looks like something you would pull out of grandpa's shed when you're cleaning it out. Ceramic insert. Beautiful pump pushers. Excellent polished chamfers. Like $2,500? Great movement. Those pushers are next level. Just... Give it up for Hanhart. In this instance, I'm down with the regular panda.
Everett You prefer the regular panda? Mm-hmm. Yeah. I mean, I'm good with both. You know me. I'm a blacked out kind of guy, though.
Andrew I love it, dude. Yeah, this is money. Hanhart's coming to, they're coming to bang right now. They're playing ball, dude. I'm telling you. Something about, something happened. And Hanhart was like, let's make some watches. Very much so. You know who isn't in that mode right now? Stovall. You know why I picked this watch? Because you hate it too? Because I hate it. So the Chrono ABT24HLE. The subtitle is the best of both worlds as Stova ties itself to German high-end car specialist ABT. ABT makes like badass Lamborghinis, racing Lamborghinis. They win races. Yeah, they don't win watchmaking. This is a 44 millimeter, 16 millimeter tall, 49 lug to lug, stainless steel case with glass bead blasted finish. So it kind of has like a titanium feel to it. Yeah, it's blasted and then DLC coated. It's just not... Salida SW500 auto chronograph. So it's based off the Valjoux movement. Yeah, so the reason... So I read about this watch right after I read about... The Hanhart. So this has a Salida 510, which is the automatic version of the 510M. It's a 7750, right? Right. But there are two ways to do a 7750 watch. And by that, I mean there are a thousand. But these are about as polar opposite as you can get. Yeah. If you're going to do a 7750, do a tower. Do a thick little bitch. This is like 90s Tag Heuer dimensions. 90s Tag Heuer inspired dial design of the whys of Ferrari design. This is such a miss. And it's so out of character for Stova. Fortunately, they're only making 50 of them, and they're 3,500 euros. So only Ferrari people are going to buy them. It's just... What struck me about this, like I saw the dial initially... In the article I'm reading and I'm like, oh, that's an interesting move for Stova. And then I start getting into the watch and I'm like, what? Nothing about this makes sense. I love Stova and German engineering. I don't love Stova and like... I don't even know what to call this. Like fashion-y, fad-y. Kaka. That's what we call it. Yeah, kaka. I don't love Stova and dookie engineering. Doody. Yeah, this is a dookie butt. This bums me out. It's butt. Dookie butt watch. We're not usually super critical of watches, but everything about this watch I hate. I hate that it even exists. Yeah, I actually wasn't going to talk about it, but then you brought it up, and I was like, oh, yeah, we can talk about it. I did read about it right after I read about the Hanhart, and I was like, yeah. Andrew, I think we can limit ourselves to maybe just one more each. Does that work for you? I accept. I am going to take the one you want, specifically the Nezumi. You dick. Did I do it? Did I take the one you wanted? Oh, you're choking on it. The Nezumi Aviara GMT. I think the last time we've talked about Nezumi on this show was circa episode 7 or 8. We've talked about Nezumi a couple times since then. Because they've had a couple releases, they've done a couple interesting things since then. Nezumi, I think even back then, even back in sort of my earliest days... Nozomi is somehow this brand that I look at their watches and I'm like, yep, like it, want it, really good. And then for whatever reason, just doesn't, like, it just never gets there to, like, my interest level. A Baleen is still, like, it's on my list of, like, I'm going to get drunk one day and buy a Baleen. They just make really cool watches. They do. And so... This week when I read about the new and improved Aviara GMT models, I thought, you know what? I think that this is a watch. that I would buy. I didn't buy one. Yeah, just to be clear. But this is a watch I would buy. So first let's talk about dimensions. So this is formally a 40 millimeter case. It is now a 40 millimeter case, but with a 39 millimeter bezel. So the bezel used to sit flush to the case, and now they've reduced the size of the bezel slightly, which I think gives the case a little bit more dimension. It is a 47 millimeter lug to lug and a total thickness of 13.3, which includes an almost two millimeter sapphire crystal protrusion. And that total thickness is down quite a bit, even though they've increased the crystal protrusion by almost a half a millimeter. So the relative case to crystal is significantly lower, and the total dimension is lower. The risk to crystal, I think, would be... Pretty slim. It's going to wear slim, yeah. It's going to wear like a true skin diver. These are Miyota 9075, which I think is a truly incredible movement. Flyer-style GMT. Especially for under $700. Yeah. And this watch is just great. So definitely gives a bit of GMT2 vibes. Case, the case does. Explorer 2. That's what I meant. Yep. It does give Explorer 2 vibes, especially with that 5.1. But that's just really the bezel because like the case doesn't. We've got like a bit of a twisted lug, almost like a Seamaster case. And then the dial is like totally its own thing. This handset is wild and I think inoffensive. But for the really huge GMT hand, that's going to be love it or hate it. I think it's great. I love the GMT hand. I'm not super down with Spire on the hour hand. Yeah, we've got Empire State Building hands. It runs all the way to... The hour hand is a perfectly acceptable length. but for the protrusion that runs to the end of the minute track. Yeah, I don't know what you call this. I'm going to call them Empire State Building hands. It's not quite a syringe. I'm not a huge fan of those. It's a real-ass long syringe. I like the minute hand. I'm down with that. It's the hour hand. If you could just cut it down to the base of the marker. Then I'm good. So we've got three versions of this. We've got the unlimited black dial version of this. Which does have the appropriately length. Our hand. Sort of creamy loom on that one. We've got a limited edition all cream dial black markers and a limited edition black dial DLC case with green accents. I think I don't need that. I want this black dial. The standard black dial comes on a bracelet. The limited editions come on straps, which is fine. Whatever. Get the bracelet. And the price is really good on these. So we've got the standard regular production 673 on a bracelet or 598 on leather or canvas. And then $575 for the limited editions. I think this is a really cool watch, man. If you're in the market for a perfectly sized GMT watch, I think these are really cool. And this bracelet looks terrific to me. It really does. It looks to me like one of the best Jubilee bracelets on the market. Clasp and everything. It just looks fantastic. What's next, Andrew? Everything left is stuff you sent me. We can just move it right along. Other things come. I'm going to come out. The links are deleted. So we've talked about my love for cast iron on the show before. Um, and I, I always have a 12 inch cast iron on my stove. It just lives there. It doesn't have a home in any of the cabinets. I have two. Uh, I've had a lodge for a really long time and I bought like a Goodwill lodge or like eight bucks, uh, cleaned it up, refinished it, reseasoned it, and used it for a really long time. Bought a trailer a couple years ago. I was like, I'm just going to get a cast iron for the trailer. That way I don't have to transport things. I'm just going to have my foot hook up and drive away. Went to Goodwill. bought a 12 inch cast iron. I didn't give a shit. Like I'm not a cast iron aficionado by any means. And there's like cast iron people. And I've, I've dipped my legs into this rabbit hole and was like, no, no, I'm not going there because that could get problematic. So this cast iron that I bought, I just like, I didn't think about it. I bought it. I didn't care. I cleaned it up. I seasoned it up and I use the shit out of it. And this is now the cast iron that I prefer to my lodge. And I'm not saying that lodge is the end all be all of cast iron. But that's the cast iron that everyone buys. They go to the store and they were like, oh, I need a cast iron skillet. And they buy that. It's 40 bucks. It's pre-season. It's fine. It's great. Here's my number one bitch about Lodge. The user interface, the like, what's the word I'm looking for? How people interact with it. I have no clue what you're doing. I'm sorry. The user interface with Lodge, it's a flat, short handle right off of the ergonomics of Lodge are terrible. The handle is super short. It's flat off of the pan. And that's always been a problem for me. So this bullshit, didn't think about it. bought it, love it, better option is the Emeril brand, like the Emeril Legacy brand cast iron skillet. It's got a half again longer skillet at an actual usable angle off of the pan. So... Most cooking devices have a, or like cooking pans, have a handle that like angles up. So when you pick up your pan and you're holding your handle flat, your pan face is sloped back toward you. So you get like a French skillet action out of this cast iron with a longer handle with better purchase because it's rounded, it's fat at the end, so you can get a good grip on it. They don't make these anymore. This isn't a thing that is new in stores anymore. So the link that I'm going to link to... is a $40 eBay option, but I'm... My, like, revelation of loving this Emeril pan over Lodge, which is the, you know, effectively the monopoly right now in cast iron, new cast iron cooking equipment that's of quality. I might be diving down the cast iron rabbit hole. Yeah. No, I like that ergonomics were the thing that did it for you. I assume that Lodge makes the emerald cast iron or made the emerald lines of cast iron. I don't know that.
Everett They probably did.
Andrew I do assume that. But I also appreciate that they've got different ergonomics, right? That's the sort of thing that can make a big difference. Huge difference. I've got an emerald grill pan cast iron. So it's got like grill blades inside of it. On one side and then a griddle on the other. Oh no, you just have the pan. It's a pan, yeah. Oh, I'm sure it's the same handle. It's a square, yeah. It kind of comes up. It's like a... I don't cook on it. It's like a 20 degree handle. The only thing I ever do with this thing is I use it in the oven when I'm making bread. It's my ice melter. It's my steam maker. So I'll throw a handful of ice in it. Steaks would be terrific on that. Yeah, I mean... Steak. I mean, that's the problem with a small pan. Yeah, I think it could work. But yes, it's interesting. I picked it up just because I saw it at Goodwill and I was like, oh, that'd be perfect for ice because it's got air flow and, you know, makes steam. Anyway. Andrew, I've got another thing. Do me. I know very little about this.
Everett About anything.
Andrew About this. However, you might know more about this topic than I do. I was recently in the market for some Double Anejo tequila because Double Anejo is sort of like, that's the tequila that's like aged and sort of for a bourbon guy. Like that feels like that's where I want to go. It's the natural bridge. But my liquor store bro was like, have you ever thought about mezcals? I was like, well, no, because they're usually young and it's not really my thing. And he's like, yeah, it's totally different. but the same, you can get into some really like interesting things in the world of Moscow. Uh, and you know, I know how much you spend on booze. Let me just make a recommendation. You're going to be back next week. You know, this is poor. And I was like, yeah, yeah, you're right. So he gave me a bottle. He didn't give, uh, suggested and you bought it. That's exactly right. He gave me a bottle of, uh, So the company that sells this is a company called Bozal. And I believe Bozal is, rather than a mescaleria or a distiller, they source mescals. Mescals are unique in that they're made in very small quantities by sort of really local producers. He gave me a bottle of Bozal's jamón ibérico pechuga mezcal. So mezcal typically made in a triple distillation process. And a pechuga is made with that third distillation being distilled through. usually some sort of meat. And I understand that that's become formalized in the last several years that it has to be meat. But there's also, you know, maybe some like vegan or vegetarian pechugas that people market. Push it through tofu. This is specifically a Iberico ham pechuga. And... It is fucking wild, Andrew. So I say this as a guy who knows very little about mezcal. or really young boozes, period. It is a triple agave combination. I think most of the agave is Espadin, which is the main, like the most common agave. It's also got a Mexicano agave and a Tabasiche agave. If you know about these things, these will be important to you. If you don't, whatever. So that's the primary difference between tequila and mezcal. Tequila has to be blue agave. Mezcal can be a variety of agave. Yes. Tequila is specifically blue agave, right? And so, look, we're not drinking it tonight.
Everett We should be.
Andrew We should be. We've drank a lot of it in the last couple days. We have drank a lot of it. It is absolutely incredible. It makes me want to know more about mezcal. I think to the extent that this is my gateway drug, I'm really, really happy to have had this as a gateway drug. Yeah, my first mezcal. It's a Bozal. It's 90 bucks. We've had mezcal before. I've had mezcal before, but I've never had a mezcal that was like, okay. You've never sat down with a bottle. I've never been deliberate about it.
Everett Right.
Andrew So this is my first mezcal in the same way the SKX was my first watch. Because I remember when we went to Mexico, our wives were like, we were going to bed. And you were like, let's go drink mezcal. And I was like, fuck yeah. That is true. And we went and I remember sitting out at the bar. That's true. That did happen. Yeah. No, it's the same though, right? It's like, this is my first mezcal in the same way the SKX was my first watch. It's very much a gateway drug. And I'll say, so for those who are tequila curious, mezcal curious, who are bourbon drinkers, the similarities are there. There's super different flavor profiles and flavors, but the way the flavors interact and present are there. I love mezcal. I love tequila. If we had better tequila and mezcal imports, I could probably move away from bourbon entirely. Yeah, I'll just say I'm not a convert. I'm still a bourbon guy. I'm not converted at all. But this that you're presenting as your other thing is my single favorite neat pour I've ever had. That's interesting. It's not that way for me, but I do know that I'm really high on it and Andrew's even higher on it. It's my single favorite neat pour I've ever had. Having done a vertical of Pappy and done like all, you know, tons of exciting shit. This is my single favorite Neaport. Love it. That's your Christmas party booze. I'm bringing it home. I'm going to wrap it in a trash bag. Andrew, anything you want to add before we go?
Everett A lot of things. Well... This was fun. I'm glad we did it. Same. We should do this again next week.
