Synopsis

In this episode of the Watch Clicker podcast, hosts Andrew and Everett discuss several new watch releases and other topics. They begin by examining new Seiko Presage Style 60s models, praising their dimensions while discussing Seiko's unique market position. They also cover FormX's new ice blue meteorite dial Essence watch, Studio Underdog's playful response to copycat watches with their avocado and guacamole-themed releases, and Nodus's first titanium watch. The hosts review other releases from Orient, Timex, Bulova and Christopher Ward.

Beyond watches, they discuss Apple TV programming, with Everett arguing that Apple has surpassed HBO in quality, particularly highlighting the new show "Your Friends and Neighbors" starring Jon Hamm. The episode concludes with an unexpectedly enthusiastic review of an ankle ice pack wrap that Everett discovered, which he admits seemed silly at first but proved to be incredibly useful.

Throughout the conversation, the hosts maintain their characteristic casual banter while providing detailed technical analysis of the watches they discuss, mixing serious horological discussion with humor and tangential topics.

Everett Hello, fellow watch lovers, nerds, enthusiasts, or however you identify. You're listening to 40 and 20, the watch clicker podcast with your hosts, Andrew and my good friend Everett. Here, we talk about watches, food, drinks, life, and other things we like. Everett, how are you? Good. Just not forgetting things tonight. Just getting right to it. Just running the board like a master. Is the card in? Because I noticed that the color on the button is different.
Unknown It's not, you're retarded.
Everett No, I'm good, man. I had, so this is my second podcast of the day. Oh, wow. Yeah, I'm double dipping. That hasn't happened yet. In your other podcasts, you record like quarterly. Monthly. Yeah, so it's a monthly podcast. Which is basically quarterly when compared to every week. Yes, correct, correct. It's also not as fun. You can't say fuck on it. You can't say fuck on it. And I don't drink beer. You could. You shouldn't. We had an F word once and I beeped it. Oh, look at you. And you shouldn't drink beer. I did like one of these. Oh, fuck. I forgot that we had that. And I can just say, you son of a bitch. I don't know. It's hard to do it. You know what, Andrew, I'll tell you what I think of you. I think you're a... And... Your mom said the same thing. Um, I don't know what I was talking about. Yeah. I asked how you were. You said it was the second podcast of the day. Oh yeah. I'm doing all right, man. I'm doing all right. I'm a little like, I'm a little like loopy, actually. I think I was telling you, like, this feels a little like, bleh. Well, it's Friday. It's been a long week. Yeah, that's right. I actually, Andrew, this is my day. I had a hearing at eight. I had a hearing at 830. I had a hearing at one. I recorded a podcast at Two? That was a short hearing. I prepared a brief from 3.30 to 5. That's how long you build, but how long did you actually work? No, 3.35. And then I met Kim for dinner at 5.30, had a beer and a piece of pizza, and then I came over here.
Andrew Look at you go.
Everett Yeah, so it's just been a lot. It hasn't been my day. It's just constant. I woke up this morning and I pushed my family out of the house and I sat down on the couch and I was like, you know what I want to do? Today's my only day at weekend. I worked yesterday and the day before, like I only get one day off this week cause I go to a conference tomorrow. Uh, I was like, you know what I want to do? I'm going to take a nap. I took like a two hour nap on the couch at eight o'clock in the morning. I was magical. Uh, it's almost like not an app. It's like going back to bed. Yeah. Uh, Andrew, I do have a, a watch thing that's incoming that I think you're really going to like, I don't know. I don't know yet, but I'm just going to tease it. You've got it last week and now, now today I've got a watch thing incoming. Oh, did I tease it last week? Was the shipping on us really slow? Yeah. Okay, well, this is double Ts. Yeah, it hasn't gotten here yet Monday. I think you're gonna like a well You're gonna have to wait be in Sun River bring my golf clubs on a fly rod just in case just in case. Yeah Yeah, just in case. I think that's a great thing to do So I'm I leave for Sun River for a conference tomorrow Sun River is a mountain resort village if you it's high river high desert and Yeah, high desert resort village short drive from Mount Batchelor famous golf courses around World I recently played the Jack Nicklaus course at pronghorn world-class fishing around That's not why I'm going I'm going for a work conference I do think it's a weird venue for a work conference. It is. Yeah. Are you guys worried? Where is the conference at? At the like the convention center, not the convention center, the community center or whatever, the, uh, the lodge, the main lodge. And I've been to a conference there before and I had the same kind of complaint. It you're, you're not near anything. You're, you're a 20 minute drive from bend. maybe even a little bit longer drive from Bend, but you're, you're in a little weird village. That's primarily hotel rooms, condos, and houses. And in which everything closes at seven. Yeah. There's a small restaurant. There's a couple of small restaurants. There's one shitty restaurant. There's a gas station. But it's just it's it's kind of a weird destination for a conference Yeah, there's no like grocery stores that are open past Seven o'clock. Yeah, it's the weirdest thing. Yeah, I mean because it's a vacation destination. It's a it's a resort village but the golf is epic and less a Conference destination, which is I know it's just gonna be a little weird. Like I'm not complaining because I love Sun River I am commenting that it's a weird Place to do to do a large scale. It's a regional conference. So I There will be many hundred of people there. Don't be dissuaded. Andrew is being weird. He's right. It's a magical place for a vacation, but it's a freaking rad place. Yeah. Like go on vacation with your family, with your friends. Like it'd be, it's a great bachelor party weekend location. Like to go golf and fish and like booze. Yeah. It's less so for a work conference. Cause they're just like, they're like social hour TBD. The last one was also at the lodge and they had, Like they didn't just change anything. You're 10 minutes away from Ben. Yeah, but it's still like, well, in any event, we're here to talk about watches and watches. We will talk about, we have a whole bunch of things that we exchanged via text and we have a lot of things to talk about tonight and we're not going to get to all of them. You know, we might. And by we might, I mean we won't, but that's okay. And I might not even... That's okay. Where do you wanna start? You know what I'm gonna start with? I'm gonna start with three new Seiko Prisaj style 60s, the SRPL 71, 73, and 75. And these are... Every time I see a new Prisaj release, I'm like, man, why don't I own one of these? And this looks every bit of... Prisaj that you want it to be. It's a 39.5 case, it's 12 thick, 46.2 lug to lug. 4R35 movement. These are 590 euros. Ice green, violet, and yellow. And I think I accept those color descriptions, usually I take umbrage with the naming conventions of colors, but I'm good with all these. This has this beautifully thin rotating bezel on the outside, step style. It's a fixed bezel on the outside. Oh, well. Yeah. It is a fixed bezel. It is, yeah. Fixed aluminum bezel. Still beautifully thin, which is good because you can't rotate it, so it's totally useless. That bugs me. Great step dial, the colors on these are great. And some presage, like, I just, I don't know why I don't own one. And then I'm like, well, I wanna save that money for something else. I know you don't own one. So these came out, these, so these are the Style 60s is what Seiko calls these. These first came out. I don't know, four or five years ago. And we talked about them on the show, I think. It's a cool watch, man. But the first ones that came out, they were 41 millimeters and they were just a little too big. And then last year, Seiko came out with The smaller versions of these, they were, I think, the same case as this. So the 39 millimeters, I thought they were great. They had a round date aperture at 430, and people were not feeling it. That kind of thing very rarely bothers me, and it didn't bother me here. But I do note, that Seiko quote unquote fixed. They listened. They listened by putting that. So now we have the smaller case and we have the date window that's more widely, more universally appreciated, which is that six o'clock date. I think these are great releases. And only 50 meters of water resistance. That's why you don't have one, right? Maybe. Yeah. I mean, these are cool watches, but they're not earth shattering. I think these, I think these are really, really good watches for someone who's looking maybe for their first watch, right? You know, the thing about Seiko is they don't make the best watch. No. They don't make the cheapest watch. They don't make the best finish watch. No, they don't make the most like ergonomic watches. They also don't make the worst watch. They just, that's, well, and more so, more so, they make, they just like hold a place in the industry, right? Like head to head, I can't think of a micro brand that Seiko competes with. right? And so that makes sense, right? So they maybe don't compete in price, but they also don't like compete anywhere else. Like for Seiko to compete with Traska, you're looking at like, you know, Seiko's that really don't exist. You'd be looking at something- Are you talking about like specced up, side by side? Yeah, spec wise, finishing wise. You're getting into like the $1,200, $1,500 of Seiko. And even then, Andrew- You're still not, they're the underdog. That's right. But bigger picture is- Seiko being the underdog.
Unknown Seiko's cool as shit, man.
Everett Yeah.
Unknown They're just cool. And these are cool. Would I buy this? No, not a chance in hell.
Everett My buddy just got the Seiko tank and I do like it. But if I had a buddy that was like, Hey, I got 500 bucks. I want something really cool. I don't want a micro brand because I want it to be recognizable. I want it to be from a known quantity. So I don't want Traska. Save your money. I don't want to notice. I mean, this is a good, this is something I might send. Hey, these are really cool for our movement. Yeah. Great case. 500 bucks. I mean, good dimensions. Yeah. You know, maybe don't go scuba diving with it, but wear it in the shower if you want to. Shit, I don't care. They got a neat bracelet. They have a good bracelet. It's not going to be good, but it's, it's an attractive bracelet relative to the, to the rest of the design. Yeah. Yeah. And that, that, uh, violet is kind of, it looks like lavender ice cream. It's like, it's one of the first purple dial watches I've ever seen. And I'm like, I'll fuck with that. I like purple watches. I don't usually. I usually appreciate them, but this is the first one that I could see myself owning and wearing. It's a good one. It's the same. I think it's the same color as the King Seiko, which is great.
Andrew It could be.
Everett Or very similar. Anyway, Seiko has, I think the most robust color palette of, of any brand and the stories that they tell around them, they could just tell you a different story and you would believe it's a different color.
Andrew Yeah.
Everett Um, FormX released an essence and we don't, I don't usually talk about iterative releases because I just don't find them that interesting. Uh, but they released the essence with a, ice blue meteorite dial and it's just a Formex essence. It comes in both the 39 and the 43, those being 10 millimeters and 10.6 millimeters respectively. If you're following along at home, the Formex essence is awesome. And if you're not, the Formex Essence is awesome. They just released these in, they're calling it an ice blue meteorite dial. The meteorite is taken from the Essence Space Glacier Monolusta. It is a half millimeter thick. dial, it's not glued to the dial plate, but sits on soldered dial feet, which I think is something that they're marketing. I'm not exactly sure what they mean. And the surface is plated with pure silver, I guess, 98% pure silver. Where do you find a meteorite that color? Well, they plate it with silver. That's how it gets the color. It's silver plated meteorite. This is really good color. They have it in one of the the one of the Media images, it's it's laying on top of a world map adjacent to I Think all the media photos are that looks like East Asia. Yeah, I Kepulon Talud, I don't know where that is. This looks like East Asia to me though. But the blue damn near matches the blue on a world map. Yeah, that the ocean is. Yeah, it's beautiful. Now the price on these has come up a little bit. It is a chronometer certified watch. I think they're coming in at like 18, almost 1900 bucks.
Andrew Yeah, yeah.
Everett Yeah, 1,990 euros. And that's up a little bit. On a bracelet. Yeah, that's right. Save a hundred bucks to put it on a strap, but don't get it on a strap. Don't get it on a strap. The bracelet is so good on this thing. If the bracelet's a choice, always get the bracelet. Well, and this bracelet in particular. It's a terrific bracelet, yeah. Yeah, I mean, this is one of my favorite watches. I think for under 2,000 bucks, this is maybe the best watch you can get for under 2,000 bucks, IMO. And this dial I think is really terrific. I don't think I'd fight you on that, but I think there's alternatives. Yeah, I can't think of any as I sit here today. The Triumph's at 2,000, isn't it? Yeah, the Triumph, I think, is still under 2,000. Well, let's just pull it up. And it's the only one I can think of that I'm like, okay. I think the Essence and the Triumph are really drastically different watches. Yep. They fill a similar place. 2150 on the Triumph, no. They fill a similar place in your watch box. Oh no, that's the Atlas, sorry. But the feel of these two watches is drastically different, even though there's a lot of overlap on the role that they perform in your watch box. Well, Andrew, just to put a point on this, I own both of these watches, and I feel like I should get rid of one of them, and I can't get rid of either of them. But the Essence is not a watch for me. It's not a watch that I would own. I've worn your Essence a lot. I've been around it a lot. It's just not for me. The Triumph is. Either way, I think for under $2,000, These are the... These are a top choice. Those are the two best watches you can buy. Not even a top choice. Hard stop, two best watches you can buy for under 2,000 bucks. Yeah, whichever one you like more, buy it and you will have spent $2,000 as well as you can spend it on a watch. Yeah, that's right. And this is great. I think it's a terrific dial. I love that it's a silver plated meteorite. Baller. Baller. Yeah, I love it. Are you ready for me to upset you? Oh, I'm ready Guacamole and avocado from studio underdog So we have here following this thing at all No, so the headline says studio underdog targets copycats with the avocado and guacamole o1 series So this is an o1 series coming from Studio Underdog with great new colors. And I think I maybe disagree with it being called guacamole. It looks more like queso. I think guacamole and queso would have been a better choice, because yellow and red and color, I mean, it looks more like queso than guacamole.
Andrew Fuck off. Why are you making weird faces at me like I'm the asshole here?
Everett Because queso's orange. So is this dial. Okay. The classic studio underdog. Decision making in the way of colors and design. This is the 01 series. With the Bespoke, this is the first release from Studio Underdog since the exclusive contract with Seagull. So we have this ST-1901 Bespoke manual winding movements on these, 50 meters of water resistance, the avocado in dark green, guacamole in yellow, which I disagree with. And again, 675 US dollars, you know, there was some concern about studio underdog going really upmarket and then he did that partnership with Mosier and then it's like a $50,000 watch and we're kind of like, oh, are we, how upmarket are we going? We sign, he signs a contract with Siegel and like that kind of, that prompted some concern for me too. And okay, you're going to get some exclusivity here. Like, are you going to, What's that gonna mean for your movement prices? We knew it would be controlled movement prices and he's getting below the MOQ of what 10,000 that that Siegel went to but it also it gave me some pause on that he might be going up market within Siegel and getting into better calibers. And we're not seeing that. We're seeing Richard keep his prices very conservative, especially relative to the uniqueness and design. But he's not going away from the less expensive, I think, to your point, right? Yes. He's keeping his watches in the realm that we want them in, right? That these are, these aren't, no, these are novelty watches for the most part. And they're not novelty in the way of they're kooky, have a weird functionality and, and won't be reliable. They're novelty in the way that these are wild bombastic colorways that are fantastic. There's a lot of really cool watchmaking going into it, but they're, they're novelty. They're novel in each of their releases, and I don't... I don't think he would disagree. And if you do, you can add Everett about my opinion. And so the full story here is about a year ago, I don't know how it was discovered, but Richard released like a Instagram story about this brand, an AliExpress brand called Proxima that had essentially aped the watermelon. and in releasing sort of a Bicompax chronograph, more of a straightforward Bicompax 6ix9ine, but clearly in the colors of the watermelon. Just, you know, you look at them side by side and you're like, yeah, that's what they did. Proxima also, when they released that, this Chinese company also released a watch they called the Avocado. And so Richard being sort of a good natured fellow, rather than try to fight this, kind of makes a big deal about it. He's like, look, guys, we made it. And not only have we made it, but I'm also going to copy them because I like that. Well, I like that avocado color way. So I'm just going to make that and sell it to you. And so Andrew, you took umbrage with his use of the term avocado, but No, avocado makes sense. I accept avocado. Guacamole is the one that I don't dig because that colorway, that yellow and red is not... Guacamole.
Andrew What's the... What's avocado then? Avocado.
Everett Oh, so I take umbrage with avocado. So, but it's avocado is the name that Proxima came up with. So when Proxima released their two watches, they released the watermelon and then they also released an avocado. So when Richard made these watches, he just took Proxima's naming. Well, neat, but they don't know what an avocado looks like if it's yellow. Don't eat that avocado. And then this is the guacamole, which. So I can dig that. Yeah. The other one looks like queso. I like queso and guacamole. Anyway. Cause that's a magical combination on any plate. So I, so you can say whatever you want about the Chinese companies naming conventions. They need to learn about avocados in China. Richard is the one who's making these decisions. So.
Andrew Richard.
Everett well-played and figure out what avocados and guacamole look like. There's pictures of them right there. Sure. Nothing's yellow. The tortilla chips are yellow.
Andrew That's it.
Everett So anyway, that is the story. Despite Andrew's confusion tilting at windmills, uh, that is the story here. Um, I think it's fun. It's really clever. They're fun colorways too. And I was just always nailing it. That's right. It's also a baller move to ape a Chinese company's aping of your ape. Yeah. Uh, with a Chinese exclusive movement. And there's some good videos too. If you, if you're not following studio underdog, Richard's making the best brand videos on the internet. I mean, there's nobody, there's nobody that's doing better than, than studio underdog in terms of, content creation. They're just, you might be on the wrong websites, my friend. Absolutely killing it. I don't know.
Unknown Can we be done? Sure. It's our show.
Everett Nodus released the Sector 2 Field Titanium watch, which is, you know, they've been going through the Sector watches, releasing Sector 2. When they came back with the Field watch, they did, I was surprised to learn this, Andrew, but this is Nodus' first foray into titanium. Did you know that? I accept that that's the case, because I'm sure you read that. I did read that. On their website, so from their mouths. That surprises me a lot. Yeah, me too. I think that Notice watches always kind of look titanium-ish. I would have sworn that they had a titanium release. I would have fought you over it, in fact, but because we're looking at their website. Yeah, so they at least their position, they at you, fuck you, you're wrong, a ledge, they at least a ledge that this is their first titanium watch. And it's a sector two, right? So you would get the new case, which is a terrific case, by the way, 100 millimeters 11 seven thin. It's not 100 millimeters. 100 meters of water resistance, 11-7 thin, with an NH movement, which I accept. This is a $500 titanium watch. Now, I'm not gonna criticize this watch. Rather, I'm gonna say, for my own purposes, I would really love a titanium bracelet. Charge me an extra 150 bucks and give me a bracelet, guys. An extra 300. I'll pay 800 bucks for this. Everett will pay it. So these come in a couple different colors. These come in a couple different colors and they're good. They're good. So I gotta click that button. If I'm being really honest though, even with the titanium bracelet, I would put this on rubber. But I just want the bracelet. Marina, which I think is an existing color and it's blue. We've got the Sequoia, which is their sort of ombre green. And then we've got my favorite, the Shale. The shale is a lovely anthracite. They're sector dials, right? So we've got a black inner circle and then an ombre anthracite on the outside with like, gosh, Andrew, I'm just gonna say it, sort of an avocado green set of accents. Hang on. Avocado green? Underneath the sandwich dial. Let me see, man. I am feeling it. It's just at the six Kim senior text, so it's at the six. There's the second hand and then the underneath the sandwich dial. OK. OK, I'm seeing it now. I'm a big fan. I can get down with it. I'm a big I'm a big fan. It's I think it's terrific, Andrew. Yeah, I'm I'm. I'm good with it. And the color palette that they chose for the background of their pictures is like multicam and black and kind of the yellow green all of the braided climbing rope and It's a good it's it's a good the shale is my favorite marinas beautiful Okay, you know shales my favorite Yeah, the marina is okay
Andrew Sequoia is okay, but the shale is where it's at.
Everett Yeah, I can get down with this. I do want it on a bracelet, fellas. Yep, I want a titanium bracelet. You know, I wonder, I know these guys, I know Wes and Colin pretty well. I have to imagine that they want a bracelet. And so there was something prohibitive there. It was either. Yeah, that's right. We'll leave it at that. I won't speculate as to what it was, but I have to imagine that they wanted a bracelet. It could have been price could have been who knows, but, or they just couldn't, they just aren't there yet with the titanium bracelet because they have to be working on one. If they're going to drop a titanium watch, you know, they're working on a titanium bracelet. Yeah. Well, and you know, yeah. Anyway, Could be that they're just not there yet, so, but I know they wanted one, so. What's next, Andy? The Loco. Christopher Ward with a new C12 Loco. Oh my. I don't even know where to start. So we're starting with the 12. That's kind of the foundation of this watch. A new in-house movement with a manual, a manually wound in-house movement. It is super weird and I'm totally good with it. sized very much like the C12. We have a 41mm case, 47.5mm lug-to-lug, 13.7mm thick, only 30m of water resistance. Thank you Patek Philippe for making that an industry standard. Integrated bracelet option or a strap. This like I don't fully get what this watch is and I think I'm okay with it. Besides a really cool advancement in Christopher Ward's movement making technology, kind of a, uh, an iterative release of the 12, 5,000 bucks on a bracelet, 4825. You're going to pay a bunch on the VAT, but whatever.
Unknown Yeah. I'm just going to say I'm not I'm not here for this.
Everett No, no, I'm not. OK, so here's the good. It's beautiful. It's really, really interesting. And I think probably more than anything, that is what Christopher Ward's doing here. The so we've got an exposed balance on the front, which is cool, right? It's open worked with a big exposed balance on the front. That's cool. We've got a really, really accurate plus minus seven movement. We've got a six day movement, which is a in-house hand wound caliber. Yes, yes, yes. It's a 12. It's beautiful. It's slightly thick, but I think the 13 and a half is misleading because, or the 13 seven is misleading because it's got a ginormous box crystal. So it's huge. It's a two millimeter crystal. So, Everything kind of works. However, I just do not believe that this does the same thing as the Bel Canto does. It certainly doesn't. It is certainly gorgeous and horologically interesting, but it's just not as cool. So, you know, these long bridges on the back, the gear train, everything's interesting. This is interesting. But for me, it's like more for more, more for the sake of more, right? Certainly so. They've got their butterfly clasp on it, which is absolutely gorgeous. With the quick adjust, so the, what do they call this? Bader the Bader class. Yeah. Yeah, this is the one thing I would I would. Agree with you in the in that I'm not with it. The thickness isn't just the box crystal. Look at this profile shot. It's chunky, man. Look at, look at how square and deep that case back is. And they do a good job with this case at putting the case, like the mid case up high, but there's so much hanging below. This will wear every bit of 13.7. There will be, this won't feel thin. Yeah. And again, I think that number is a little misleading. I think it'll wear closer to like a 12 millimeter watch with that crystal, but it's still nuts. And six hour, you know, we, we six day movement. We've talked about, we've talked about like power reserves a lot on this show. I think you're generally like, I don't care. I'm like, I also don't care, but I couldn't respect it as a complication or not a complication, but as a feature. Um, yeah, I just, the timekeeping is beautiful. Um, the, the movement is insane and gorgeous, but beyond that, I am, I'm excited about seeing in-house movements come out of Christopher Ward.
Unknown Yeah, the second in-house movement.
Everett Yeah, that's cool And it's a really attractive version of the 12th It's like a very haute Version of the 12th, but it's just not it's not bel canto haute. It's it's kind of it's It wants to be guilty by association Yeah, well, you know the other I think the other problem that I I think the other problem that Christopher Ward has with this is that with the Belcanto, with the Belcanto, they're really sort of out on an island. Here we've got, here we've got like kind of a mishmash of Chopek and Gerard Perregaux and, you know, Gerard Perregaux, they've got their triple bridge tourbillon. When we don't have a tourbillon here and we don't have a tourbillon. So, right. We're sort of like. Yeah, I it's I'm not going to like full on shit on this thing because I think it's really cool, but also it's not a watch I'm interested in. It's not a watch I'm going to buy. I'm not. I'm excited about it. Not only am I not going to like it, I'm not interested. No. Well, what are you interested in? Let me tell you. Because there's probably something. In fact, I know there's something I'm interested in that I'm interested in that I'm interested in that one picket. I'm trying to decide. OK, I know what I'm going to do.
Unknown Tutor. Like a fart. Tudor came out with a new Pelagos. You've probably read about it. They call it the Ultra. We talked about it.
Everett The Tudor Pelagos Ultra is, did we talk about it on the show, Andrew? I think we might have. I don't think so. Tudor Pelagos Ultra is a thousand meter version of The Tudor Pelagos. It is slightly larger at 43 versus 42. It is about the same thickness. It is very, okay. Yeah, we talked about it at the same time we talked about the Black Bay Pro Opaline. Okay, fine, I'll move on. I don't really, I get it, but I also don't get it. So, so Mike sent us, uh, famously who writes for, um, MSNBC, uh, had this watch or handled this watch, uh, and was complimentary of it in every regard. I don't think it's bad. In fact, I think it's good. I just don't understand how it works alongside, the OG Palagos at this point. You've got a virtually indistinguishable case. It's gonna wear slightly bigger than the Palagos. It's the same thing that they've done with the Black Bay series in making segmented out specced and sized watches. Every Tudor watch has nine sizes.
Unknown Yeah, but this is so close.
Everett Dimensionally, man, it's so close dimensionally to the Pelagos. You've got an extra millimeter. You go from 42 to 43. You've got like an extra 0.2 millimeters thickness. You've got a virtually indistinguishable lug to lug. You've got cases which are different, but not, you get a much better bracelet or a much better clasp. on this than you do. But you're paying $2,000 more. It's not even that much more. It's 1500 bucks more.
Unknown It's not even that much more. It's like 5,500 versus 6,000. It's like $500 more.
Everett I just don't understand. I just don't understand why you would keep both of them. I think that's, that's what it is for me. Maybe that's it. I mean, maybe the the the 500 meter Pelagos is going away.
Unknown It doesn't seem like it is, though, yet.
Everett Maybe. Maybe that's the deal. But what? Yeah, I don't think so. I think this is intended to be another Pelagos. Maybe it is. It is curious. I share your, I share your wonders. I'm not shitting on it at all because I think it's great. And I think the regular diplomas is great. So there's zero shitting happening here. I just am. I just don't, I don't quite understand the marketing position for it. Maybe it's one that's not going to have any limited editions. It's just the ultra. Because, I mean, there's a hundred, there's more, there's more than a hundred SKUs of Pelagos out in the world. All right, what's next? Oh, well, shit. I think there's like seven SKUs of Pelagos. No way. All the limited editions, we've talked about seven. You've got like, you've got the two FXDs, you've got the big Pelagos. You got the little one. You got the LHD, the little one. The multiple LHDs, there's all kinds. I think there's seven SKUs of Pelagos. There's all kinds of limited editions they've done. Orient. Celebrating the brand's 75th anniversary again with two ice blue Limited editions of the Mako and this is a watch that we haven't talked about in a long time This is a watch that I own and was like my my second watch into my watch buying Problem if you will 41.8mm case and a 39.9mm case. Identical dimensions the rest of the way around. 400 bucks for the 39, probably a little more because these are euros, 429 euros for the 41. And they're lovely. The 41 comes with a matched, not a matched, but a dark blue bezel on this almost lavender tending ice blue, the 39 with a steel bezel. What does this dial remind you of? What does it remind me of? A cocktail time. It's a cocktail time dial. But they're lovely. And this is a great execution of the Mako. Were you aware of the cocktail time or the, excuse me, the Pelagos? What's happening right now? Are you having a stroke? What do we call this watch? Cocktail time? Mako? Nope. Mako. Were you aware of the Mako 39? I wasn't aware. 39 millimeter case with a 20 millimeter lug width. I was not aware this existed. It's recent. It's in the last two, maybe three years. Yeah. Yeah. It's a new-ish watch, but I wasn't aware. No, I was aware. I almost picked one up because my only, well, I have two complaints about the OG Mako. It's a touch big and it has a touch too much polish. It does. You own one at some point, don't you? I still have one. Oh, you have one, okay. I still have one. I have the black dial. I love it. It's a super comfortable watch. It does all the things I want it to do. It's just a little too much polish for me for such a, Like an aggressive dive. Yeah, it's a big sturdy watch. Yeah, if it was brushed, it might. It could be perfect, yeah? Or even Blaston, I could do that.
Andrew I'm not gonna do that.
Everett I don't do that. I really like the dimensions, or I really like the proportions of this 39 millimeter. It's really good. And it is recent. When did that come out? And I like this cocktail time dial with the steel bezel. Actually, I really like the fonts on these. I'm a fan of these two releases, man. Orient does, you know, like, good shit. It's just often they shit themselves in bed and then roll around in it and then present themselves. Won't it? Yeah, that's right. That's right. No, but I don't I mean, I don't get that with these. These are great. You know, the Mako, I think, is such a cool watch for a number of reasons. They're all the Northwest. For a number of reasons, but, you know, unlike when I looked. When I was buying my first watch, right, I've talked about this a hundred times, it was in between the SKX and the Mako and I went with the SKX. The SKX doesn't exist anymore, right? But you know what does? Mako. And you know what the Mako is? It's better today than it was back then.
Unknown They just keep pumping it out.
Everett But for a few advertisements that got people really excited a couple years ago, they really don't advertise. I mean, they're just like, Hey, we're going to keep selling you the best entry-level watches on the face of the earth. And there's still the, this, the black on black is 220 bucks on Mako's website or on Orient's website. They're probably 170. They're under $200 for a really well-specced, really appropriately sized watch. Yeah. Yeah. And, and, you know, they're all in-house movements. Uh, the movements are better, you know, now we've got the, the in-house with hacking and hand winding. Um, I think mine is hacking and hand winding. It's seven years old. Uh, then it came after the new movement. Yeah. 41 and a half millimeter case, 47 lug to lug. I mean, they're 13 thick, but they're a 200 meter. It's a $200 watch, man. Yeah, and it's a $200 watch. Yeah, it's a $200 watch.
Unknown Not ISO compliant, but I mean, honestly.
Everett Bracelets.
Unknown Better than Seiko at 200 bucks.
Everett You can get an Orient Mako 2 for $155, a blue dial right now on Joma for $155. Let's see. It's crazy. $160 for the black. Yeah. In 2025, $160 for an Orient Mako 2. They have the absolutely most offensive name. And, uh, what's the word I'm looking for? Uh, what are you talking about? The code for their watch? Oh yeah. Like 96 characters long. Reference numbers. That's the word I was looking for.
Unknown I promise it was 229 bucks on Joma. That's cray.
Everett You getting hollow end links? I mean, this isn't a watch that you're gonna write about the specs of, or get out of the game for, but yeah, they're all good. Banger. Timex, do you know anything about Bespoke Post? I do. So what is Bespoke Post? It's like a subscription service, right? Like you get a box. Yeah. So you, they, um, hang on. Sorry. I'm, I'm organizing my tabs here. Uh, so you, you get like a, a box of shit. Every month. Yeah, right. And it's all stuff that's cool and functional. It's certainly not the highest quality stuff of that ilk, but it's like kind of introductory things into things that you're interested in. So you pay, I don't, I have some things from Bespoke Post. You get your subscription and then like every month, it's like, hey, there's these five boxes available. Select your box. My first bamboo steamer was from a bespoke post box. Okay. Um, I got like a bamboo steamer, a sushi rolling mat, a shitty walk. Uh, I don't remember what all was in it, but I remember I got these things and I was like, Oh, this is, this is cool. And this was, I don't know, 15, maybe not that many, but more than 10, less than 15 years ago. Uh, And I've, I still use that steamer. That's my little, my little bamboo steamer that I use like secondarily. Cause I have now a multi-tiered, I have a problem. Um, but that was my first introduction to like, Oh, I can. I'm gonna experiment with this. What do you do with a bamboo steamer and a wok? Oh, sweet. That's what you do with a bamboo steamer and a wok. And then that it broadened my horizons and other things. And they have all manner of different things. Like they have outdoor oriented boxes with like a shitty hatchet and a multi-tool and a sweater or like cocktail kits or like bar tool kits to kind of introduce you to these hobbies. and be your gateway drug into spending all the money on the nice things. As you're looking at it, was that an adequate description? It was. So I'm not really, so I know what Bespoke Post, I at least know the name and now I kind of know what it was, but Timex has teamed up and released a watch with bespoke bespoke post this week and it is a recreation of the Viscount. Hang on, hang on. Oh shit. As it scrolls by the the walk steamer and thing kit was right on my, like as the scrolling. Yeah, that's funny. So Timex actually released, it was a collaboration with someone, I can't remember what or who, they released, so the Viscount is a 1970s Timex watch, and a couple of years ago- I think it's Viscount. I don't wanna be an asshole here, but you correct me all the time. Yeah, correct me away. Viscount? Mm-hmm. Well, that makes sense to me. They released an automatic Viscount re-release a few years ago. I think that was a collaboration too, and I can't remember with who. But it was sort of like a resto mod of this watch. This watch is much more true to the original in terms of sizing. So it's 36 versus 35, so a little, just a touch bigger. This time around, it's not an automatic. Rather, it is some sort of unnamed quartz movement, but it's 160 bucks. That's funny. It's 160 bucks, Andrew. And it's gorgeous. It is gorgeous. We've got a... Like really sort of a classic field watch with great numerals. It's got a red 24 hour on the inside and a pretty bright yellow minute track on the very outside. Chili crisp and sesame oil. So a wok, a steamer, chili crisp and fish oil. That was what was in that box.
Unknown We got a big old domed crystal, 50 meters of water resistance, 36 millimeters across, and it's stainless steel and it's 160 bucks.
Everett And it feels super familiar, right? This is kind of a tonneau-y case, field watch. This is sort of a thing right now. There's been about 10 of these this year. And it looks good. This is maybe my favorite color palette for this execution that I've seen a long time. It's great. Yeah. Yellow seconds hand red. So white markers, yellow minute track numbers, but a white minute track, red 24 hour track, yellow second hand, but different than the loomed yellow numbers on the minute track, like more of a bumblebee than a, Than a kind of mustardy and it looks very similar to the old to the one that came out a few years ago. Mm-hmm That dome on that crystal though. Yeah, it like makes it That's a flat case to shit. Yeah, I Like it and 160 bucks right 260 bucks. Yeah stainless steel. Yeah, you can't you won't regret buying that I won't I wouldn't Do you have any other watches you want to talk about? How long are we at? We're at 50 minutes. Yeah.
Andrew Let's see. We talked about the Mako. Why is it on there twice? Oh, because I moved the tab in the wrong place. Uh.
Everett No. OK.
Andrew No, I can. I'm OK not talking about any of the rest of this.
Everett Didn't we talk about the ContoDat last week? We did not. One more watch that I think is kind of fun and a little bit of a throwaway. But Andrew, I believe we talked about these Bolivar snorkels when they came out. Did we talk about these? talked about a couple iterations of the snorkel as they've come out. I tried one of these on recently and they're pretty cool, man. The size on these things is great. The fit's good. So the Bulova snorkel collection came out a few years back, maybe a year ago. And it's these colored sort of ceramic, they're a hybrid ceramic, so, imagine bioceramic or whatever. We talked about it when they came out initially because it didn't make sense. It was like, what else could Bulova have used? And this is it. Like, kind of make your own watch to do the thing. So Worn and Wound did a collaboration with Bulova. Bulova's been participating in the Worn and Wound Watch Fair for 10 years. Bulova is always at Worn and Wound, in my experience. they've made 50 of these things and they're gonna be available only at only at the wind-up watch festival at San Francisco I'd buy one of these if I was there if I was in San Francisco I would buy one of these this is my absolute favorite. It's a gray coated case with a silver, but like a gray silver, ashy, an ash colored bezel, a great burnt orange wave dial on a matching rubber strap. This is... And it comes like in an ADPT watch case with an ADPT strap. Yeah, this is dope. Yeah, it's cool. You know, you you talked earlier about I don't like it releases and you've talked about two today. What did I say? You don't like talking about iterative.
Andrew Oh, this isn't just iterative.
Everett This is like talked about. OK, whatever. It's something about this that's pretty cool. I think it comes in a in a wind up and bull of a branded Golden Gate Bridge. Like not logo, but printed box. This is really cool. Yeah, it's cool. Who do you think the male model is? I don't know, maybe Kyle. Dude's got some hairy arms. I'd like to, I wish I could recreate that picture. Yeah, I don't know who it is. It's gotta be Kyle. Hit me up, Kyle. Yeah, anyway, it's cool. I just wanted to talk about that. It's one of my favorite WarnerWound collaboration releases. I'm trying to find a picture of Kyle's wrists. I don't think it's him. No, it's not Kyle. So hand model, anonymous. Hit me up. Yeah. Uh, Andrew, other things. What do you got? Ooh. So I started a new show today and I was kind of second screening it while I started it. Uh, and then I stopped abruptly second screening. Whoa. your friends and neighbors from Apple TV. And we had a little bit of a tiff over this as my other thing, because I asserted that Apple TV has maybe taken the crown of television programming from HBO. I think our TIFF was more of a misunderstanding because I said HBO followed immediately by AMC. I think, no, you did misunderstand that I suggested that perhaps AMC was superior to HBO, which I disagree with. It's not superior to HBO. It's second for sure. and HBO, I think has just been dethroned by current available programming by Apple TV. I've watched several, because everything Apple TV is doing is current, right? There's no catalog. HBO has a deep, deep catalog. 20 years of premium home programming. And I think Apple TV is there. I think they've surpassed HBO. We're not gonna go through the Apple TV catalog. We're gonna move past this, because my other thing is the show, Your Friends and Neighbors, it's starring Jon Hamm. It's the story of this dude whose life gets the, like he just gets the rug pulled out from under him. And he turns to north of petty larceny because he lives in a neighborhood or lived in a neighborhood that any larceny is not petty. because of the value that everything has of the people he's around. He's the super rich hedge fund manager who gets sacked and then his life falls apart or his life falls apart and then he gets fired. And he resorts to a thieving from his country club Folkman, And it is a fantastic story. I think one of the things that Apple TV shows have done so well is they don't create anti-heroes. Sure. Right? You're not rooting for the bad guy. More often than not in the Apple TV shows, you see this really, really well, not this, these really, really well-developed characters who are so multidimensional. They're not anti-heroes. They're not heroes. They're just like in the role that they're in. And they have positive character traits and negative character traits. and you root for them because they're so real. And that's the thing that I've really loved about all the Apple TV shows that we've watched, is every character that you spend time with is so multifaceted. And this is just like that. As you're watching it, if you were to turn this on, not know where it came from, You wouldn't know this is an Apple TV show because of the whole character feel of Jon Hamm. Do you know, so I know with like Netflix and perhaps even HBO sometimes they're buying shows that have been made independently. Do you know as app, I think Apple is doing most of their own production, right? They are doing their own production. And I think we've talked about this before, like, uh, Netflix exclusives versus that Netflix originals. I think the, the, um, differentiation there is their exclusives are bought shows and their originals are in-house produced. And Apple TV is so clearly doing in-house production because all their shows have a super similar feel, right? They're all these, is that a pube? No, it's a staple. Oh. Are those not what your pubes look like? Yeah, my five-year-old was playing with a stapler. I don't know why that staple was on the front of your pants though, that's curious. But they all have these really well-developed and built characters that are just like, you can relate to them in such a real way. And this is just like it. It's really good. I'm only a couple episodes in. I'll have to give it a try. It is worth giving a try. I'll have to give it a try. I've got another thing. Do me. Have you ever tried to ice your ankle, Andrew? Yeah. Yeah, you roll an ankle. My experience is that icing the ankle is always a pain in the dick. Pain in the ankle too. And a pain in the ankle. You know you like if you want to get it on the side you kind of like have to like Turn your ankle and that's usually a little uncomfortable and then like you wind up like kind of halfway on your stomach With like your legs crossed and you're like and there's no way to hold the balancing There's no way to hold it like with the wraparound because if I'm getting to icing of my ankle, it's it's Like front side and back. It's usually three sides of pain and So my wife has needed to ice her ankle quite a bit. What happened? Because she had a terrible accident and had a surgery. So we ended up picking up a thing on Amazon. And when we picked it up, I was like, this thing is Right? Like I thought that to myself. I was like, this thing is stupid. I agree. Do you put it in a bag before you put it back in the freezer? Yes. Good. We do. So we got an ice pack. So this is a reusable ice pack. There's going to be a link to it in the show notes. Maybe. What it looks like, Andrew, it looks like an ankle brace. It looks like a walking boot. But it does. But it's made of like that gel, that refreezable gel. It's got like a fabric, it's like a textile package. Yeah, the blueberry smoothies. This thing's, it's fucking genius, dude. It is genius. The way your foot fits in this thing, it's got these Velcro straps that go around it. It's totally variable tension. Uh, it's got fantastic coverage. It ices all the places that you want to ice. It'd be good for high ankle sprains or low ankle sprains. Uh, it gets your foot. You can block parts off if you want. Because that's where I hurt. When I get ankle sprains, it's my foot, like the top of my foot that really gets the... And if you get a low ankle sprain, that's true. You get a high ankle sprain, it might be higher up. This will ice bolt. And it just is so genius. I mean, this is not a complicated device. But it was the solution to a problem.
Unknown But we picked one of these things up when I saw it on Amazon. Kim was like, I think I want to get this. And I was like, that looks so dumb. It's not going to work.
Everett But I am forced to admit. It so obviously will work though. It is genius. So. It's long ice packs with Velcro. This is a weird other thing, right? Cause you're like, what the fuck do we need ice packs for? I think that this is a thing you might just want to keep in your freezer. Yeah, we're all getting older. Just get one and put it in your freezer. Cause you will sprain your ankle tomorrow as you walked on the front steps. It's possible. Right? Or break your entire leg. stepping onto a razor scooter. It's terrific. It's terrific. I can't believe I don't have one of these. It's like, I'm like, I can't believe we don't have one of these before. Yeah. It's what, I mean, it's just. We don't get paid for this, but I'm probably going to buy one of these.
Unknown It's just insanely good. And I say that is when Kim sent me this link, I was like, we're not fucking getting that stupid thing. Just ice your ankle. And we got it. I was like, we should get another one.
Everett Yeah. Just in case we should get a backup. Yeah. Well, especially when you have kids who are in sports. It's terrific. So we're going to put a link in the show notes. What it's called is, I will link this. There may be other versions of this. I can only speak to this one. This is the Revix Ankle Ice Pack Wrap for foot pain relief and feet injuries. Reusable gel ice cold packs for Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, sprained ankles and heels. And AI created this product and is selling it. I don't know who is, who is collecting the money for sales. Um, It does have like one of the images like is a comp image where it compares with some other generic looking ice pack. Uh, and I, I'll just say, I think this one works better than that one.
Andrew They said they're better than it looks better.
Everett Yeah. It's just an insanely good product. Like it's intuitive for what it's worth. It's a, such a simple solution to a very real problem.
Unknown Yeah. So that's my other thing.
Everett I was like one of the, one of those, maybe one of the worst and best other things you've ever presented. I know. I know. But it's so other things was always supposed to be a place where we could be like this thing slapped me over the face with how good it was.
Unknown And that's what this was.
Everett I agree. We got it in and I was just like, duh, I'll be damned. The only problem is you got to put it in a gallon bag before it goes back in the freezer after being wrapped around. Yeah, it's dirty dogs. It is a textile. So yeah. I mean, you haven't washed it yet, I presume, but do the, do the rapper, you could watch it as a rapper come off of the gel pack. So we have a couple with like a plushy kind of lining. That's what it is. That, that like, uh, it opens up like a pillowcase and removes from the, no, no, it's all, it's all integrated, but also it's 20 bucks. So you use it for a couple of months.
Andrew Yeah.
Everett But yeah, Andrew's right. You put it in a gallon, it comes in a resealable, In a resealable bag. Tolerable. Yeah. Yeah. That can go in the freezer. It's terrific. Get one. Keep it in your freezer. Cause it's fantastic. Ice pack. That's my other thing for the week. I like it. Okay. Good night. We're getting old.
Unknown I'm supposed to go into that slow. Is that what's the deal? Yeah. Oh yeah.
Everett There it is. Fade in. Do you like that? We'll see. Andrew, thanks for joining me. You're in my house. And you at home, thanks for joining us in Andrew's house.
